Got Mugged
Posted by Jadehawk on 10/06/2013
We were checking into the Motel 6 at Bishop, California around seven at night. Guess what the rate was for this dump of a motel? $136.50. More than three times what it's worth. Got to the room, no rugs, curtains busted. Well, we wiped everything down as this rat nest was a germ haven.
The staff was second rate...and that's being polite. Lesson learned. NEVER STAY HERE.

That's an outrageous rate for a Motel 6. Was there some sort of sporting event in the area?

In Bishop, there is a nice Comfort Inn, an OK Ramada, and the Best Western is Best

I don't see why you paid that much as I just looked on trip advisor and Motel 6 is going for $66 a night (which is still too much)

Employee Punched My Son!!! No Reprimand!!!
Posted by Critterdawner on 09/17/2013
BLUE SPRINGS, MISSOURI -- My son went to the main office to ask why we had not received housekeeping in nearly 2 weeks. We spent nearly $1000 for our stay of over 3 weeks. During our first week my son had passed a housekeeper that was on a phone call and did not want to disturb her. So he continued walking until he met another housekeeper and explained to her that he had passed another housekeeper but she was on a phone call and did not want to interrupt her phone call. When the second housekeeper ran to the first one he had passed yelling for her to get off the phone he realized he got her in trouble and that she was not to be making personal calls while cleaning. (She wasn't cleaning she was sitting on the made bed!) The following day the one in trouble actually punched him and asked "why did you tell on me, man! She punched him in the arm and I will agree with my son she was a very large and manly girl but we still made no complaint on her because we did NOT want to start trouble! However, after the general manager Latoya immediately began making things up like we didn't pay on time on a couple of the days etc. if this is true then why is this now the first time they have brought it to our attention. Latoya also lied to corporate saying that she was verbally attacked by my son. I called corporate to ask if they would please get the surveillance film and review it. They said they can't do that right away. But of course I believe that's so the footage can somehow get "lost"/ taped over! We called the police to make a report and fully intend to seek prosecution against the housekeeper/Motel6.

I would have called the police and filed a report for assault the minute the housekeeper laid a hand on me.
Posted by Shayen on 2013-09-18:
The last sentence of the complaint states the police were contacted, a report filed and the OP intends to prosecute.
Posted by madconsumer on 2013-09-18:
if this was my issue, i would have requested housekeeping before 14 days had passed. also, sending a child to the office alone is not anything i would do.

what is motel 6 side of this story?
what did the police say?
Posted by clutzycook on 2013-09-18:
Sounds to me like they did it after the manager started causing trouble. As I said, I would have done it right away.

Madconsumer, the OP doesn't specify how old their son is. For all we know, he is 23 years old.

Don't Stay at Motel 6 Downtown Palm Springs!
Posted by Bornagain1957 on 08/30/2013
PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA -- I stayed with a friend at Motel 6 in Downtown Palm Springs, California for one night in August 2013. I have stayed at many motels in this chain. Up until now they have been basic but acceptable. However, this one is the worst! The room was not as clean as it could have been. Although we asked for a non-smoking room, my friend could smell smoke. The room was very tiny, as was the bathroom. There were no drawers to put possessions in.

But the worst - believe it or not, the door did not lock!!!

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid!

When in Palm Springs during the hot off season like August you can stay at the nice, huge resorts for less than $50 a night. They give the rooms away just to keep the staff working. We did a few nights at the Rancho Las Palmas that included golf and breakfast for under $90 a night.

No need to waste money at a dump like Motel 6 in the off season.

Hidden Tow Fees Included When Following Clerk's Instruction
Posted by Ldlandrus on 08/21/2013
ROHNERT PARK -- My boyfriend has made use of Motel 6 extensively while working out of town in the Bay Area. I am on occasion his $5. Registered guest. The per diem afforded him does little to cover lodging in this "spendy" area.

This particular Motel 6 is often short of parking, particularly on the South side...where the landscaping choice (fruiting Plum Trees)and the over zealous leaf blowing landscape team members create yet another concern.

He and I (as well as many other guests) have consistently and repeatedly been instructed by the Motel 6 Staff that it is permissible to park in the spaces immediately adjacent to this area. After we both checked in (around 7 pm) we once again were without parking on 3 sides of bldg. ...having been assured that it was acceptable for guests to use the adjacent spaces we parked for the evening. He left for work at 5 a.m. and I went to start my car and it wasn't there. Since it was a brand new (still dealer plated) vehicle I first assumed it to be stolen. I then though perhaps Motel 6 had inadvertently towed my vehicle, perhaps because it didn't have license plates. I called the tow company no. On the signs ...disconnected. I then called the police no. listed...after speaking with three people I got the word that indeed my car was towed/impounded. They eventually were able to provide me with a valid number for a different tow company.

After trying unsuccessfully to reach a taxi service...I called a friend for a ride. In checking my brand new car I noted a 3" scratch...obviously fresh (no dust at all around it) noted this to driver who of course took no responsibility. I immediately went to Motel office to sort out snafu. They did not authorize tow...it was a business who now claims exclusive rights to parking.

Unfortunately I and the 10 or so other guests were the one's caught in the crossfire. I asked the desk clerk to please inform the other guests parked by me that the tow co. was continuing to tow...they were very unreceptive to this. While speaking to the agent authorizing the tows about how Motel 6 had mislead all of us...another car was hooked and pulled away...the agent stated she had given Motel 6 ample and repetitive warnings that they were to advise their guests about the new parking policy. (I informed her that her process was in violation of the CVC) The signage & placement as well as tow notice were unlawful. I went back to Motel 6 office and inquired as to if the clerk had reached there guests...she smugly assured me in an affected tone ,"YES...I've called every one of them". Another car was being towed. The other towed guests reported that they had not left their rooms for the day, they had no message, and they even used their cell phones to verify that their hotel room phones were functioning.

Motel 6 perpetrated this misery on their guests and wouldn't lift a finger to help. These guests who were towed were headed to jobs, had registered cars, and had to pay a lot of money and it was primarily Motel 6 staff's fault. Even after all this Motel 6 didn't inform their guests about changes to parking preferences. In the next 2 days myself and my boyfriend advised and redirected dozens of newly arrived and parking guests from the disputed parking area. Motel 6 cancelled our reservation after the manager overheard a woman thanking me for informing her as she parked the night before .

Pretty ironic that Motel 6 was clearly in the wrong and yet I was the one being punished...I have my civil small claims court case pending with the agent who authorized the unlawful tow as well as the tow truck driver. My only recourse with Motel 6 is to speak out, post reviews, and many calls to customer relations for Motel 6...I'm active with all three. Pretty sad when a guest who has spent $7,000. In a year on room charges, had no negative incidences against them, had their car towed unlawfully, tried to do right by her fellow guests is the one who gets the toughest treatment.

My advice ...for $15. More on average you can stay at the Best Western, free WiFi, complimentary breakfast, conveniences like fridge/blow dryer/microwave/pillow top mattress/and large rooms complete with desks& dressers & 42" flat screen TV. Add it up, it's actually the more economical choice.

What else did the signs have on them, in addition to the non-working # for the towing company?

Horrible Experience
Posted by Christiwak on 08/15/2013
My room had a very bad case of bedbugs which I was victim to. The staff refused to perform housekeeping services. Insulation in walls is very bad; you can hear everything from the other rooms.

I Got Locked Inside the Room!
Posted by Zmarquez524 on 08/15/2013
BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA -- Immediately after arrival I realized the door was broken and I couldn't get out. I called the front desk and she told me she was the only one on staff and she was busy and she'd be there in 10 min. I ordered pizza and soaked my toe that I had stubbed on the broken step on the way in. I reached for the only towel and a cockroach jumped out of it. The front desk girl eventually came, but couldn't open the door. She called the manager and she tried as well for 20 min. My pizza guy came but I couldn't open the door. After about 40 min they finally got it open. When I complained the manager told me I "really need to learn how to talk to people". She gave me my money back but refused to comp me a room because I was rude to her. I have stayed in better hotels in Mexico. If you ever go here avoid the crazy lady with black and white hair and orange nails.

I avoid Motel 6 altogether after one bad experience. They say they are not all alike, but I simply won't take a chance again.
Posted by olie on 2013-08-15:
She gave you your money back. That *is* comping the room.
Posted by Old Timer on 2013-08-15:
Motel 6 is the bottom of the bottom when it comes to dumps to stay at. "I have stayed in better hotels in Mexico"? I would think so, a couple of the nicest resorts we have ever frequented were in Mexico.

(plus I love the grub in Mexico)

WiFi Inquiry
Posted by Sbyrd122 on 08/07/2013
I spoke with the lady directly at the front desk regarding reviews I've read about the WiFi having poor signal strength, she said it wasn't very good and if that's what I was coming for check another motel and hotel. She was very rude. Her tone was unacceptable and short that type of customer service is intolerable!!

I wouldn't expect a desk clerk to be able to communicate with authority on the signal strebgth of wifi in any given room. I am betting her response was just a way of saying she would not guarentee without doubt that you would be entirely satisfied, although it is likely you would be.
Posted by trmn8r on 2013-08-07:
I would concur with CU's excellent reply.

I don't know how her comments were rude, but she did warn you there was a chance you wouldn't be happy. There is something to be said for that. Imagine if she said it was great, you stayed there, and it wasn't.
Posted by Weedwhacked on 2013-08-07:
If she knows that their wifi is bad and advised you of it, what else did you want to hear from her?
Posted by FoDaddy19 on 2013-08-07:
Actually I think she should be commended for being totally up front and honest about it. You asked a question, and a got an incredibly honest answer that left no room for interpretation. That's good customer service in my book.
Posted by Kelly on 2013-08-13:
As far as I'm concerned WIFI should be complimentary...AND be functional.

Yes, it sounds like the clerk WAS rude but I wasn't a witness to it.

181ST AND STARK PORTLAND, OREGON -- I made an online reservation which was for a room with two double bed's. I received an email confirming my reservation. when my two Kid's and I showed up to check in I was told they didn't have an online reservation from me. I showed the lady behind the after hours widow my email which she wouldn't even look at. I was then told there was one room available with one double bed so I took the room. when my two children and I opened the door the room smelled bad. there was supposed to be a microwave which there wasn't one, the fridge had an open jar of mayonnaise and mustard, the bathroom door had graffiti on the inside bathroom door, and one of the other rooms had a broken window and wasn't boarded up or anything. needless to say I don't recommend this motel to anyone

Value for Money???
Posted by Maggiemthompson on 07/10/2013
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS -- My husband and I relocated to Corpus Christi due to his work. We unfortunately got stuck with staying in this place (845 Lantana Street) It was the only available room here that we could afford over $350 for just one week. It is so over priced but lets face it the whole of Corpus is over priced.

The room is so out of date, internet is not even free, it smells and to top it all the room had a shower and NO bath and the toilet seat didn't even have a lid on it, which to me is disgusting (but I know this seems to be standard in Motel 6's). The reception area looks ok though funnily enough!! I am just mad because of what it cost us and we have stayed in several motels around Texas and for a 'corporate' motel this really has to be the worst.

Don't they have standards that they have to keep to? Who charges for the internet now a days they really need to address that. I do understand this is supposed to be a budget chain, but budget does not mean dirty over used and broken. The only redeeming feature this place has for me is their pet policy which is why we had such a limited choice when we were shopping around. So if you can afford it, its worth paying a little more for clean and updated accommodation so go elsewhere!! Given the choice I would in a heart beat!!

They Screwed Up My Reservation and Could Care Less
Posted by Nadorp on 07/07/2013
1153 HARRISBURG PIKE, CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA -- I have stayed in this hotel for the past 10 years for the Ford Nationals at Carlisle, Pa. They were supposed to send me my reservation deposit info around April 2013. That never happened. They called me the day I left for Carlisle first week in June. Said they were confirming my reservation. I called them back later that day to change my reservation to 1 night. They said, ok see you then.

When I got to the hotel, the girl behind the counter said she didn't have a reservation for me. Then the night manager came out and said they gave my reservation away because I showed up a few minutes after 6pm and they were only holding my room as a courtesy until 6pm. There was another couple at the counter at this time leaving because they were given a smoking room they didn't want. The girl told me the hotel was totally booked, and my response was, how is that possible if you were supposedly holding a room for me until 6pm and it now is a little past 6pm? Then the girl said I could have this room that the couple were leaving from. I didn't want a smoking room either.

The night manager could care less about all this and acted like a jerk. I had to literally tell this guy to "shut up" just to state my case. I told him how he dropped the ball and now I'm suffering the consequences. He claimed to be the one who sent out the reservation forms in April, which I never got. Now you don't have a room for me- Oh well. He could care less. Acted like I was a joke and just wanted me to go away. I told him after staying there the last 10 years, I would be staying somewhere else from now on. Fine with him. He didn't care. I don't like the way I was treated and want others to know how uncaring the management is. Avoid this place unless you like being treated like crap.
