Horrible "Customer Service", Car Not Available

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- The shuttle was 30 minutes late, the rental place didn't have a van ready even though at that point we were an hour into our rental, and they refused to refund money. Don't ever use this rental service if you don't want to be taken for all your time and money. Non-existent customer service and we were only one group of four that didn't have cars ready or had other issues. They tried to convince our pregnant friend to wait at McDonald's until we finally got mad enough that they gave us a stained, smelly van with broken seat belts. I would give them zero stars if I could.

Not Sure Why NU Car Rental Has Had Such a Bad Rap

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- After reading all of these reviews (which of course my husband found) after I had paid in advance for a much lower rate, I was VERY skeptical and E-mailed back and forth with this company for days and my charge card company, in case I got stiffed. If you take your declaration page for your auto insurance which proves you have liability coverage - it is perfect. If you use a Mobile Sun Pass transponder (Purchase for $20 at Publix), put $30 or whatever on it to cover all of the tolls from every direction this is perfect. And you can use the transponder in any car you are in and can add money to it automatically, so you don't get hit.

Also, as soon as you get the rental, call the SunPass people and identify the car and plate you are driving and as you drive through the tolls (marked and unmarked), you will have proof that you crossed that toll with your SunPass. We received the minivan in clean condition in and out with a full tank of gas. I took 30 pictures of the inside and outside of the van, scratches, dents and any imperfections and put all of these of their form, signed it and had them make a copy of this for me. We had 900 miles total (100 per day) and drove over 700 in the State, so that was good.

We cleaned the vehicle inside and out - just like we found it and made certain we had our garage opener, GPS and Transponder out of the vehicle upon leaving. We filled the gas at the most inexpensive place, topped it off, so the vehicle would still be full when I dropped it off. The $100 deposit was dropped off of my credit card several days after my return. I will rent from this company again.

The Absolute Worst Car Rental Ever!!

ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- Absolutely the worst rental car company. They do not clean their cars and rent cars that have motor problems, not to mention the worst customer service I have ever experienced in a rental co. The first car that they gave me was a Ford Focus that was very dirty and had a wheel and transmission problem. The second car they changed it for was a Hyundai Elantra that was just as dirty and full of sand. Both cars were scratched and dented. PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM NU RENTAL. YOU WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED!

Worst Experience Ever - Never Again

SANM JUAN -- I went on Travelocity to find the best deal for a rental car in Puerto Rico. NU Car Rental had better advertised rates than anyone else, so I made reservations and also purchased insurance. This extremely negative experience included:

(1) a crammed ride in a car too small for three of us and our luggage from the airport to the rental office,
(2) an extremely long wait (about an hour) at the office for their one man desk to even start helping us,
(3) charge after additional charge which we were never informed of when we made the reservation,
(4) being informed that they could not honor the car insurance I had purchased through Travelocity,
(5) being informed that we could not return the car early (forced to pay for whole weeks - not given the option of daily rates) and,
(6) to make it even worse, an extra and outrageous $500 was charged to my credit card to replace a passenger side window which was broken by a rock from a lawn mower.

The Manager, Jesse, told me it would probably run about $200 to $300 to replace the window and that the difference would be credited to my credit card account. After waiting almost two months for the credit, which never appeared, I called them to find out the status. After Jesse "checked " with someone, I was informed that the charges were much higher than $500 to replace one car window (mind you, this was a small window and not even a windshield). At that point, I simply informed him that this was an obvious scam and that I was done with this company forever.

In retrospect, I should have put a freeze on this extra credit card charge by contesting it. But I was still hoping they would do the right thing. I hope Travelocity takes this company off their site so that other unsuspecting victims do not fall prey to this unscrupulous and thieving company.

Most Terrible Experience!!! Do Not Rent From Them!

ORLANDO AIRPORT, FLORIDA -- I rented a car from them for 10days. 1st they say they don't accept my insurance, I have to purchase theirs. I just had a long flight and it was midnight, and before Christmas. I don't really have too many options, so I paid double price to rent the car from them.

When I return the car to them, I was thinking to rent another day from other company, then the staff told me if I return the car before 10:20 am the next day, I only gonna be charge a little bit about 30$, so I accept the deal. Then it's really started my nightmare!!!

After finally returned the car at the time that staff told me to, they charged me with full price + insurance, which I told them I already have the insurance. It's about 70$ a day!!! They ask me to sign the receipt, I refuse to, course I have dispute about the price they charged me! Then they started play the game. Say that staff not here, nobody can prove the word, I returned next day, so I have to sign it. I can write on receipt that I have dispute about payment then call that guy when he back on his duty day.

So I called the staff on his duty day, he told me everything be set, I will receive my refund and I will receive the receipt he changed by email. Then when I check my bank statement, I be charged extra 31.65$!!! And I never receive any receipt!! So I called that staff again. He put me on hold then never answer my phone. So I went to their office. He tell me it's holiday, it takes a little time for my bank to receive the final refund, and their system broken down, so I waited. Then later my bank get 31.65$ refund, so pretty much they did nothing but played a game to my bank account.

Maybe they think I'm stupid that can't count!! So I called that staff again. This time he just throw a number, say it's their Corp office number. If I call them then they will handle it, and I will get my refund back. Guess what? After called that Number, which same as their website customer Service number, no matter what time & what day you call, they always closed!!!

This is a really stressful & terrible rental car experience for me. I will never rent a car from them again. And I really don't recommend anybody rent from here cause when you actually go there, it won't save your money but burn it!!! Hope nobody going through the experience like me again!!

LAS VEGAS, NEBRASKA -- DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY EVEN IF THEY GIVE YOU THE CAR FOR FREE. Renting a car with this company was the worst experience of my life and an absolute nightmare. Like most people, I was scammed by the low price of $5/day compared to $30 of the rest of the companies but I ended up paying waaaaaay more than that.

  • First of all, the rate is non-refundable and you pay in advance so once you reach and they tell you about the extra charges you can't withdraw or you will lose your money.

  • Once I reached their office, they said that their car don't have any insurance coverage not even the basic one and I was obliged to pay $20/day to take the car. The sales representative was saying things like ''if you have an accident and kill someone you will be liable for $1MM otherwise.

  • They wanted to sell me the LDW but I said that I have coverage with my credit card. They kept saying, "Oh it doesn't work." They won't reimburse you for everything and even if they do it will be after months. Luckily I already used credit card coverage and know exactly how it works so didn't fall for this.

    • If you are planning to drive in California, they will make you pay $30 service fee for EVERY toll (while all other companies have a service charge of $5). Otherwise, you are obliged to pay a daily fee of $10.
  • The return office is only open until 8 pm. When I returned the car, the employee refused to give me a return report and I had to stay there and fight about it for 20 min. I told him I read online that you charge customers multiple fees so at least I need the report to contest any charge.

  • I was right to get the report because they charged me $80 ($6/gallon) for fuel while my report clearly states that I returned the car full.

  • They don't answer phone or e-mails with the requests.

  • They don't give you money back if you return the car earlier.

  • And worst of all, they have the WORST customer service ever. When I was there, there were at least 5 other clients fighting with them about different things.

  • Roadside assistance is not included.

  • You can only drive in 4 states and they have pick-up/drop-off in limited spaces.

  • Luckily, I had a car in good condition. I read soooo many reviews where people were given very dangerous cars to drive and you don't want to put your safety at risk.

I already submitted a complaint to all consumer agencies as they are scamming millions of customers every day.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Rented a car from Nu Car's Las Vegas location for the first & last time last week. How they stay in business is a mystery with the slugs they have working there. I also just read that they have a 1.3 star rating with 94 reviews. Wow. Now I see how the people working there get their, "I don't care" attitude. It obviously comes from the top down.

Wish I'd read the reviews before I forked over any money to those **. Bald tires? Inspecting a car with a phone flashlight outside in the dark? Telling people they can “just walk across the street” (4 lanes) to the airport because the site I rented on neglected to say their place doesn't open until 6AM when I had turn in time of 5AM? WTF?! ** attitudes toward customers I've ever encountered. The head honchos should be real proud. So, here's another bad review they can look at, laugh at and throw in the trash.

I will give the young man behind the counter credit. He really wanted to help even when we turned down 2 cars to (finally) get one that didn't have bald tires on it. He seemed to be embarrassed by the fact that he had to work with 3 or 4 women that didn't give a ** how long you waited. Hopefully, he can land a job with a REAL car rental agency someday. That was about 3 hours of our lives the wife & I won't get back. Well, live and learn. I LEARNED that Nu Car sucks & I hope their rental agency doesn't LIVE much longer. To top it all off, I tried to send this to their email address and I keep getting a message stating that the address isn't valid. What a ** business! Can I give LESS than 1 star?

Worst Experience Ever

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- I had the worst experience ever with NU in Las Vegas. I booked my car with Hotwire and was led to believe the rental car was at the airport. It was not. We had to wait for a shuttle to take us to an offsite car rental facility. After looking for their office in the rental facility we were told it was not there either and needed to take another shuttle to NU. We then waited for the NU shuttle and it literally took us across the street to a small converted house that was not visible from the main street.

After waiting in line for quite some time with another 10 customers. We were told our car was not available since we were late to pick it up. We had not just reserved our car but we had prepaid it in advance 3 weeks prior. The "manager" was a very rude woman to raised her voice when I questioned her about how they could have rented the last 7 passenger vehicle out if I had already paid for it. She yelled and said we should have read our contract because they only have to hold the vehicle for 2 hours and we were 2-1/2 hours late. Mind you we had spent 30 minutes on shuttles and 20 minutes in their line.

She offered absolutely no help to resolve our situation and only escalated it by being rude, confrontational and dismissive. Her employee who stands about 6'2" came over and stood next to her to back her up and intimidate us. We were threatened by them with the police and were kicked off the premises. We went next door to Sixt Auto Rental and they had a professional office setting with AC, water and most importantly a professional staff who helped us quickly find a 7 passenger vehicle and had us on our way quickly, efficiently and happy to start our vacation.

I immediately called Hotwire to complain. When Hotwire attempted to contact NU they did not answer the phone. The rep insisted and after the 4th call the "manager" hung up on the Hotwire representative. When Hotwire attempted again the phone had been left off the hook. This convinced Hotwire that I was not exaggerating and they promptly processed a refund. Do not do business with this company if you want to enjoy your vacation.

Don't Do It!!! The Worst

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- NU rental car can be characterized by Up Charges & intimidation. First they are not at the Airport Rental Car Center. You have to go to the rental car center to wait again and get their shuttle. When you get to their place, it is a converted house. You have to wait in long lines, out the door until they get to you. The converted living room is extremely dirty. Dirt everywhere! Counters are makeshift.

While I waited I listened to person after person get told why they had to pay more than the rental agreement they walked in with said they would pay. Your car is not available, Just $20/day to get an available car, You have to have extra insurance even though your normal insurance says they cover you, You have to get proof of exactly what your personal auto insurance will cover (had to go online, download and print my policy or be charged for insurance) One young couple the secondary drive was under 26 y/o. Didn't tell them that if only the older one agreed to drive then no up charge, Traveling to California extra $s/day. I agreed to none of the upcharges. When I turned the car in 30 hours early they couldn't get me a receipt. I would have to wait 1 to 3 days & get it in the email.

Now I have the charge it is $49.03 more than my rental agreement said it should be and no explanation. Just a charge on my AmEx. I have been renting cars at airports for 40 years. I have never seen a situation as bad as this before. Listening for several hours until my reserved car was available (and I wouldn't have to pay $40 extra/day for an SUV) I got the impression that the reservation clerks are paid a commission on all the ways they run up customers bills. The situation was so pervasive and every clerk was using the same tactics on each new customer who came to the counter.

On July 26, 2016 I arrived at the West Palm Beach airport. I had reserved a car from NU rental agency, which is a subsidiary of America's Best Car Rental, through Travelocity. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RENTAL COMPANY. THEY ARE AWFUL!

Although I had specified I wanted to rent the car at the airport, I did not read the fine print close enough, and when I arrived (after 8 hours of travel) I discovered that NU does not have an airport office. Their closest office was over 45 minutes away. When I called the office to send a shuttle for me, they told me to wait at Bus Station #7, in front of the terminal. When I went to the front of the terminal there were no “Bus Station #7” signs. I asked an airport police officer and some airport employees if they knew where Bus Station #7 was, and no one had any idea what I was talking about.

So I called back the rental agency for further directions. The woman that answered told me I had mistaken the directions, and that I needed to get on the general car rental shuttle bus, go to the car rental center, and I would find Bus Stop #7 in front of the rental center. I did so, and, once again, there was no Bus Stop #7, and no one had any idea what I was talking about.

I called NU again and the same woman answered. She told me I had mistaken her instructions, and that I needed to get back on the shuttle, go back to the main airport, and find the #7 Bus Stop. At this point it was obvious that she had never been to the airport, was reading off a script, and had no actual knowledge of what she was talking about. I told her to cancel my reservation, and her response was, “That's great!”

I understand her relief, because trying to do a job when you have no idea what you are doing is one of the most frustrating feelings there is. Although it cost me an extra $100 because I did not have a reservation, I was able to get a car from Enterprise. Enterprise service was excellent, and the people working there did a great job. When I got home I discovered that NU had charged a $39 cancellation fee to my credit card!
