STERLING HEIGHTS, MICHIGAN -- My parents had One Stop Home Improvement come out to do an estimate for our roof replacement, most of the shingles on the back of our roof were curling. One Stop's sales representative convinced them that they didn't need a new roof. He said they could repair it by replacing the bad shingles (3 bundles) and applying Proshield/shingle granules. He said that our roof would be as good as new. One Stop uses very aggressive sales tactics, he convinced my parents to sign a contract for the repairs by estimating the roof replacement at $10,000/ the repairs at $1,200.
When my mom questioned him about the curling shingles he promised her she would be satisfied with their repairs. He flashed endorsement papers at them without actually letting my parents read them. The roofing crew showed up six hours late the day they did the "repairs". They were at our house for less than two hours, they did not replace any of the damaged shingles, and applied Pro shield and black shingle granules to our BROWN roof. They tried to charge my parents the full $1200 without completing the job they promised us, our roof looked worse than before.
We contacted the manager after the crew left to tell him we were unhappy with the job they did, and did not receive the product we paid for. He promised that he would be at our house the next day to "make things right". My dad took the morning off from work to meet with him, he never showed up and avoided our phone calls. We called several times over the next two days, but could not reach him. When he finally contacted us, three days later, he told us that one stop "stands behind their work and they'll make things right". He told us he would be at our house with the roofing crew the next day, but they never showed.
The shingle granules had washed away in the rain. One week after the initial "repairs", we were very frustrated with one stop and asked for our money back. We never received the shingles we paid for and the pro shield was useless, we needed a new roof. The manager informed us, that the only way we could get our money back was by signing a new contract for the roof replacement. When we disputed, pointing out that we could no longer trust them he laughed at us and said "you signed a contract". He tried to threaten us with lawyers, he said "if you try to break the contract my boss will sue the ** out of your parents and he'll win".
He was extremely unprofessional, he used profanity, he interrupted me several times, and he talked in circles trying to manipulate me. We contacted the BBB, and the next day One Stop agreed to give us a refund. When my dad spoke with the owner he was extremely arrogant. He again told him that they "stand by their work" and that they are the "best company in the world", the manager and the owner NEVER saw our roof after the crew did the "repairs". The owner was just as unprofessional as the manager, he interrupted my dad every time my dad attempted to speak.
Since our horrible experience with One Stop we have found several online reviews from people who have had similar experiences dealing with them. They have a history of not finishing jobs and never fixing their mistakes. In my opinion, One Stop Home Improvement of Sterling Heights Michigan is a highly unethical company. The employees are trained to push low budget/high profit "repair jobs", everything they say is a part of the One Stop sales script which is full of lies. They handle customer complaints by making empty promises, but never actually doing anything to fix the problem. If you are considering using one stop please reconsider, it's for your own good.
