Empty can in 12 or 24 can package
Posted by on 03/14/2002
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- I do not know that anyone has complained about this before but I have had the misfortune of getting an empty can in the 12 and 24 packages of my Diet Pepsi. This has happened to me at least 5 times in the past 2 years. Apparently the can has emptied and the packaging is dry by the time I make my purchase. I have found a little hole in a couple of the cans. The tabs are intact. I saved a couple of the cans thinking I will send them in but I never do. I am too embarrassed to go back to my neighborhood store. And the purchases made at other stores further from home are not worth going back for a can. Is there a way for when the package scanned at checkout and weighed at the same time? (Without the customer asking). I love my Diet Pepsi and like the Cherry Pepsi. I requested one store to get the 12 packs of Cherry and they did! My husband said I drink so much of the stuff that the truck should make deliveries to our house. So it makes you a little mad when you find an empty one more than once.

To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:
Somewhere along the line someone must notice the wet carton before it gets to the shelves. Store managers made aware of this situation.
I just thought I would tell you how the packaging can conceal a empty can.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.

I have found the same thing from time to time. All you have to do is contact Pepsi and they will send you a coupon for free Pepsi

You do have a valid complaint. I've only experienced this rare event one time myself. The can was empty, but it didn't leak its contents or anything. If this happened at the same grocery store, it can be the store mishandling the sodas or the place the store's distributor is getting the sodas from. I would tell the store so they can investigate the matter. If you don't want to look bad, just don't insist that they give you a refund or anything. I'm sure they will appreciate it if you just tell them to help them improve their business. If they don't care, look in the phone book and figure out where the delivery guy is getting the sodas. Call them. If you ever get ones without any holes, they could be of some value as collector's items. An empty, unopened soda can is kind of neat. Have to admit. Maybe a message from God saying you should not drink so much soda. You know how he works in mysterious ways. God bless!

I work in a fast food restaurant, and we have what is called a "bag-in-a-box" basically....its a 5 gallon bag of syrup in a box, you pop out the nozzle, pop a cap off, and attach this hose like thing to it. well..when you pop off the cap theirs a guard in there to keep the syrup from gushing out. needless to say my friend warned me of this 2 days prior..but i went to change the diet and the guard was MISSING. and hence my name....soaked in syrup. i had to call my roomates boyfriend and bribe him with a free meal to bring me another uniform. God what a day..a shower never felt better. and you are complaining about an empty can???????

Recent change in diet Pepsi taste
Posted by Ontrack on 03/01/2010
Pepsi appears to have changed it's processing of diet Pepsi decafe. I've recently bought 2 36-12 0z. can cartons from Costco. The taste is different. I thought that maybe it was a one time problem but I bought 4 twelve pack cans from shop-rite and again there is a different taste. Whats wrong with there process? I am a long time Pepsi drinker who doesn't like the recent change.

It's the carbonation. And the sugars used. Diet soda uses aspartame which isn't good for you, especially if you drink a lot of it

Ontrack, who knows what's going on now and I don't mean just the Pepsi company. There was a particular coffee I enjoyed and all of a sudden it didn't taste the same. We've had complaints around this place about many companies changing the product for whatever reason. Kraft mayonnaise comes to mind immediately.

Nothing wrong with stocking up on a product whether it is soda, beer or whatever. I used to do that for drinks until someone decided to use my outside refrigerator as his personal cost free shopping aisle.

The diet Pepis I just bought on Saturay, from Albertson's tastes fine. I do not notice anything different?? Could your diet Pepsi have expired??
Posted by Starlord on 2010-03-02:
My wife and I drink Pepsi One, when we can find it. Pepsi 0, Pepsi Max, Diet Pepsi, are all made with aspartame. Regular Pepsi is made with HFCS, and Pepsi One is made with sucralose (Splenda). We both get horrendous headaches if we ingest aspartame, so we read labels religiously. I don't know why Pepsi One is so hard to find, and have even heard rumors that it will soon be discontinued. We hope not, as Pepsi One is the onlt Pepsi product we can drink. BTW, have you seen the ads put out by the makers of HFCS, saying HFCS is natural and good for you?

personally i love the vanilla diet pepsi but it no longer exists in the US.
i think it might still be available in another country but... hell, it'll just be cheaper to buy some vanilla extract and make my own, vs hopping a flight etc.

oo i remember pepsi jazz, i liked that too. offered sodas to a friend once and he picked the jazz thinking it wasn't diet. if i remember, he actually liked it, though i think he was surprised it was a diet drink

I agree - that's why I went to the internet to try to see if anyone else thought the taste had changed. I purchase it when on sale - three of the bottles tasted TERRIBLE another one tasted just fine. Pepsi has to have changed something in it's formula ! None of the dates were expired. I've drank the caffeine free for years. It's definitely different.

Pepsi Cola new 20 Ounce Bottle Cap
Posted by Pepsi Cola bottle cap on 01/17/2010
I am TRULY addicted to Pepsi Cola. I buy four cases every other week. Since you have changed the bottle cap on your 20 ounce bottles of Pepsi, I can't open them anymore and have to wait for my husband to come home from work to open them. Then I have problems getting them to fit well after opening. PLEASE GO BACK TO YOUR OTHER CAPS FOR YOUR 20 OUNCE PEPSI COLA. You must do something, or I'll have to get used to another drink. These caps are horrible. Help?

Two cases of liquid candy a week? You have problems far beyond a difficult to open cap. I used to drink from two to five pots of coffee a day, which is not much better than two cases of soft drink a week. Suddenly, with no explanation, I almost totally lost my taste for coffee, and have one or two cups in the morning. The rest of the day I drink ice water. I have a big glass that holds aobut 20 0z, and I have to fill it at least once an hour. I am feeling much better now.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-17:
Star, I love ice water as well. Cold as you can get it.

Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-17:
Buy the two-liter size. Cheaper.
Posted by bunnyhead on 2010-01-17:
I too am addicted to soda but I love Giant's generic diet orange soda, Sun Pop. I drink like two cases a week.

There have been a lot of complaints on M3C lately about Pepsi's new bottle caps. There obviously is some type of problem with the new caps.
The OP shouldn't have to switch to 2 liters because of this. Plus, 2 liters go flat halfway through the bottle.

My advice, try Pepsi cans until the company decides to do something about the caps. Same great taste but easier to open.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-17:
Then why should the OP have to switch to cans instead? Switch to Coke. It's a far superior product anyway.
Posted by Ponie on 2010-01-17:
Are you sure you're talking about Pepsi? I'm addicted to the stuff and have never seen a 20 oz. bottle. I buy the 24 ouncers.
bunny, perhaps the poster has the same 'problem' I have. Although she doesn't say in which state she lives, my state has a 10ยข deposit on these bottles. I have only inside storage to accumulate them. Don't want any antsy critters developing as they would in the cans because the empty bottle is capped.
noandyes, superior by whose standards?
I think I may know the reason for these bottles being difficult to open. I'm sure many, many people (me, included) have voiced their opinion. Of course, a few million bottles were capped before the problem was discovered and it will take a while to use them up. I have a brilliant(?) idea. The company should sell the 'defective' bottles to those of us who guzzle the stuff at a discounted price to get rid of them sooner. It would help us in the $$ department. Naah--I'm sure they wouldn't take my suggestion.

Vending machines around here sell 20oz bottles and 16.9oz bottles
Posted by Ytropious on 2010-01-17:
There's also 24 oz bottles, they're really tall and skinny. I drink mountain dew like it's an addiction, but I buy a 2 liter and reuse bottles. It's way cheaper.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-17:
Not big on soda myself. usually diet pepsi or diet dr pepper, 12oz cans from the machine at work. I am, however, addicted to COFFEE!!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-17:
OOOOOOhhhh, Ponie. Just bought a bottle of Pepsi Throwback. I can't wait for it to get chilled so I can try it (over ice!). Should I add some liquor?

Posted by bunnyhead on 2010-01-17:
I don't think she should have to switch to cans or anything else. The OP seems to really like Pepsi so I suggested cans. Pepsi has been getting a lot of complaints about these caps so they may change them...who knows.
Alley...2 liters always go flat before the bottle is done. I sometimes drink a whole 2 liter in one day and the bottom 1/4 is always almost flat.
Posted by Ponie on 2010-01-17:
raven, are they 20 oz. bottles of Pepsi? Have never seen them but I seldom get it from a vending machines. I've occasionally bought the 1/2 litre bottles but I don't care for them. I know this is petty, but I have the wire shelves in my refrigerator and those skinny, odd shape bottoms, sometimes tip. :)
Miss M, my niece was visiting me this week and she hit some of my Pepsi--with a little extra from my Jack Daniel's stash mixed in. She likes it. I'll take mine on the rocks, please.
Posted by Sparticus on 2010-01-17:
I have this same problem once in a while with Gatorade bottles (the 20 oz size). Since Pepsi owns Gatorade, they may be doing the same bottling problem on both lines.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-01-18:
Ponie, yup...20oz bottles of just about everything are sold here in Ohio. Juice, water, soda, sports drinks, etc. You can buy them one at a time in vending machines or coolers, as well as in "six packs"

Although, many machines are now at the 16.9 oz bottles, for the SAME price they charged for the 20oz ones. Usually a buck.

I miss the Nehi belly washers we used to get in Indianapolis whan I was a kid, you had two varieties of cream soda, red and yellow, grape, orange and like Faygo, Red pop. As far as the Pepsi goes, your tastes change over time. Whether you believe it or not is immaterial, it happens. We drink Pepsi One, but once in a while it is hard to find. We cannot drink anything with aspartame, as we get pounding headaches if we do. We only drinks sodas with Splenda. Yes, Db, I said SODA. You are obsessed with that pop thingy

I am in Canada but I would be happy with any email address at this point.

Pepsi Leaks
Posted by Pepsi throwback on 06/17/2009
I recently noticed that every time I go to buy a bottle or six pack of Pepsi in plastic bottles I cannot seem to find one that does NOT feel sticky to the touch. I noticed that the lids are smaller (shorter) for some reason and think that maybe that is why they are leaking. Apparently something isn't' sealing properly. I love the product but quality control is very poor with regard to bottling. Anyone else notice this? And the new Pepsi Throwback that is so hard to find goes flat faster than the regular Pepsi.

MOre likely is that the workers in the warehouses that the roducts go through show littlecare about the proper handling of merchandise and slam the forklifts around, damaging product. It is far more likely that the stickiness is from Pepsi spewed from damaged bottles in the warehouse. I once worked security in a grocery chain warehouse and saw this much more than most people would believe.

Flat Pepsi And Defective Cans
Posted by Pepsi-holic on 10/24/2008
ATWATER, CALIFORNIA -- I have been a loyal pepsi drinker for nearly 50 years now. Since I never acquired a taste for coffee, pepsi is my morning coffee. In fact, it's my coffee all day long, as there is always a pepsi by my side.

It's no big deal to come across a defective can with flat pepsi inside now and then, but lately, there has been so many that it prompted me to write in about it. To my surprise, I've noticed and read several other folks saying basically the same thing.

We know our pepsi, right folks? Us die hard pepsi fans can take the blind test against the competitor and choose our pepsi every time. Well, until lately anyway. I sure wouldn't choose these recent ones as pepsi at all.

So, what's going on at the Pepsi Company ya'll? I'm sure we all would appreciate hearing your explaination about this, and why they even made it to the store shelves. It wasn't found just in my neighborhood, we found the same problem in the next county while visiting relatives. From these other complaints, seems it's all across the u.s. How did all that bad pepsi get missed?

Then, it would be really nice if you showed how much you value and appreciate your loyal customers, by compensating them for spending their hard earned money on so many bad cans of soda, a product they've trusted and enjoyed for so many years.

We all are feeling the squeeze from our economy these days, and it doesn't help to be pouring money down the drain, litterally! Then to quickly find something to get that aweful taste out of our mouth. It's SO yucky!

Come on Pepsi corporate people, show the world what a great company you are. Lead by example and show how a major company can, and will, do right by those who made them successful in the first place.

Make us Pepsi People Proud.

Drinking something else or questioning the poster's health doesn't solve the problem. Ya' know, you can die from drinking too much water. 'Tis so! I almost fell off the bar stool reading that story and watching it being aired on TV.

Pepsi-holic, your last statement sounds like a campaign slogan. :)

I once got some flat Pepsi, but it was my own fault. I picked up four 24 oz. 6-pks without checking the 'use by' date, which was about five months prior. Took it back to Kroger, along with my receipt, and they replaced it.

Please, people, think about someones feeling *before* you just type out anything that comes to your minds.

Thank you (off soap box, now)

MIAMI, FLORIDA -- Pepsi One is the best diet product I have ever tried. It has Splenda and the taste is not matched by any other diet soft drink. It is very important for PepsiCo to clarify what is the issue with some cancer produced in lab rats and related to the amount of certain ingredient in Pepsi One. This is a good product, but I need to hear the truth about the studies and consequences of drinking this product. I drink 3-4 cans a day !

There are people talking about a class suit against PepsiCo because of some label warning not used in California.

Please clarify.

I Get Disgusted/nauseus Whenever I See a Pepsi Commercial
Posted by Stefjay1 on 06/04/2013
ORLANDO, FLORIDA -- Every time I see that disgusting excuse for a women( Beyonce) doing a commercial for Pepsi, It makes me sick and disgusted. She is a nothing who just shakes what she was given. She disgusts me now as much as she did in her earier years. Myself, my family and all my friends have seen that commercial so many times in sheer disgust that even looking at a bottle or can of Pepsi, we can no longer even drink it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have lost so so many customers as well as families, that you should truly care !! You need to use normal people, everyday people to promote a truly family recipe as well as a family drink. Normal people with normal family values so much more true to life, if you even care......Like a man like myself, my family members. I am in a wheelchair but thats life. My family is normal and just well taken care of and clean shaved. Think about it........

I'm a pretty normal guy and I don't have a problem watching Beyonce in a Pepsi commercial. Actually Pepsi's ads are pretty tame compared to the likes of Hardee's/Carl Jr's, or Go Daddy's older ads which I also don't have a problem with.

Posted by Chaparrita on 2013-06-05:
Using celebs in ads is a popular and effective way of advertising. Maybe Pepsi lost a few customers who don't like Beyonce, but I've bet they've gained even more customers who are fans of Beyonce. I don't like her music, but I think she's an amazing singer and dancer. And a heck of a lot classier than some of the female singers out there.

Wow, that's outrageous. I'm sure if you call Pepsi and tell em what happened they will reimburse you and send u a coupon for a free beverage.

That's what they did when I complained to them bout my drink being expired they sent me 2 coupons one for a free 12 pack of mountain dew plus a free two liter.

That would totally tick me off. I've had the same problem recently with Gatorade. At first, I thought it was just me, and didn't want to ask for help, but when I did, everyone else had just as much trouble trying to open it.

I would do as Wally recommends. Why pay for a product that you cannot use?

Sounds like you needed the right kind of pliers or a cap removal tool - I use a pair of channel-lock pliers for this job. Some of the latest caps are a real pain to remove.

I cannot get any of them open...I even took one to work with me to have the men at work try to open...they jokingly accused me of putting super glue on the lids....this is ridiculous...no more will I do this!!!!!!./..will start drinking Sprite

I been drinking Pepsi since I was a young lad. Its my 3rd fave, the others being DEW and DR pepper. I was a bit hesitant getting Pepsi throwback because usually when Pepsi comes out with a different flavor its some diet concoction that leaves a chemical aftertaste in my mouth.

Throwback on the other hand tastes better then regular Pepsi because it uses real sugar instead of HFCS, It's less syrupy and tastes natural.

If you wanna know what Pepsi tasted back in the day I'd get throwback it's much better then regular Pepsi.

If that's what natural tastes like, I'll stick with artifical.

I enjoyed the Throwback, but we drink Pepsi One, as I am a diabetic, and One is the only Pepsi product I can drink. Most Pepsi products have HFCS, or aspartame. Throwback has real cane sugar, and Next has four separate sweeteners. If Crystal or I drink anything with aspartame, we get throbbing headaches. we like One because it is sweetened with splenda (sucralose).

Well, I'm 59 years old and worked for Coca Cola and in my day, the shelf life on coke was 30 days...Soda Drinkers look at your "expiration" date on the can before you buy, you'll be suprised...Takes "bad chemicals" to make a drink last that long....IMO....And when drinking out of plastic bottles, remember, the carbonation will move "thru" the bottle to the outside...Squeezzzze before you buy...

WhiteWolf...I've recently stopped buying the 2L bottles of Coca~Cola because I've had so many that had a weird tastes...Not sure if it was a 'plastic' taste or what, but I couldn't drink it and I wasted so much by pouring it down the drain. I now buy my Coke in the cans and haven't had any that tasted like that. I just wish they'd dump the plastic and go back to the glass returnable bottles.
