Harrassment By The Staff

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA -- WHY? I CANCELLED MY MEMBERSHIP AT PLANET FITNESS??? Many, many times after being a member here for several years, RECENTLY, they just 'again hired new staff', it just seems every 30-60 days. They fire the old staff employees, and hired new staff. Last manager was fired for 'sexual harassment' of several female members and female staff.

So this 'new guy' they hired has to clean and take care of the place, keep the place clean, and the locker rooms, showers, seats, bathrooms & they are just filthy at times with 4-500 people a day come and go there, and someone is spitting everywhere inside the bathroom stalls and on the dressing stalls and in the locker rooms they have seating benches that are just covered with spit and sweat and many other nasty spots & snots and more.

So, this new guy Alfredo, was in there and I just "one time"... I mentioned the locker room was very dirty and after that, Alfredo, he just began harassing me and now, I know, as it all turns out, after the one time complaint, he was always complaining about me, (I just heard), many times he was slandering me and others, and filing complaints, for weeks about my comment. I spoke to many other members about it. I had mentioned the filthy locker rooms, also.

Well, today for some reason, Alfredo could not use the scanner to scan my black card ID and for no reason, he just became mental. I said jokingly, "Maybe you need a psychiatrist..." Then he just flipped out like he is a guy who is 'demon possessed'. Started yelling and screaming at me and making a real big scene... So then the manager came over, and then he just slandered me, said I was insulting him, and she said, without any investigating, "You have to leave..." I said, "I am not the one with a problem," she said, "I DON'T CARE... YOU (I) have to leave now..."

So, clearly this place is so messed up. This is just a friendly, warning, to 'anyone'... If you are considering Joining this club...? Watch out. They might say this is a "Judgement free zone"... Well that is total **!!! Planet Fitness today... Shaw/Marty Fresno California.

Discrimination

DES MOINES, WASHINGTON -- We have only been a member at Planet Fitness for less than a month. My husband is a body builder and is constantly being discriminated against for it. Just for a small background he used to be 250lbs fat and took him 7 years to transformed his body. At our last gym he helped train many people over the years for free and finally couldn't handle the ego of the people we were surrounded with. We switched over to join the "judgment-free" facility but he is being shamed daily for being in shape. Their rules stereotype body builders or they call them "lunks" rules like no water bottles bigger than the cup holder, no gym bags, no grunting or thin strapped shirts.

He has had employees seek him out on the floor to tell him his water jug is too big and is a tripping hazard but when I complain that there are 3 gym bags in the walking aisle the manager says they don't have enough staff to police the floors. We have noticed that any of the rules that my husband was reprimanded for a non-fit, obese or elderly person would get away with. My husband has abided by all the rules once they were known to him but we still see non-fit, elderly or obese members get away with breaking the rules and are not judged for it.

Our final straw was walking into the facility this morning, hadn't even swiped our cards yet and we over hear the manager selling a new membership by putting body builders down. I have submitted a written complaint, spoke to 2 different managers and corporate ultimately just asking to be let out of the contract. Seems fair that if you don't want us there and are judging us in a "judge-free" facility that they would just cancel the contract but they won't let us out of the contract without paying the cancellation fee.

They are breaking the law by discriminating against us for being in shape and now won't let us go. It does not feel right to me to have to pay someone to stop discriminating against myself or my loved ones. On a side note the only reason the machines are clean is because the members do it themselves. I have noticed that they take great care in lifting up the machines and to clean the floor but any part of the machine this is not regularly wiped down like the seat for instance is never cleaned by staff and constantly has a mixture of pubic hair and dust. Showers are not cleaned properly as well.

Serving Pizza on Mondays and Front Desk Staff Young and Silly. Not Acceptable

JACKSON, TENNESSEE -- Planet Fitness would be a great place if they would promote healthy. But I guess the advertisement speaks for itself NO JUDGEMENT NO HASSLE. A lot of people come to Planet Fitness to try remain healthy and try to lose weight. Serving pizza is not healthy. Why not serve yogurt or a protein bar? The young staff members are very immature, cause you might have someone who is self-conscious about their weight and those young people are goofing around and laughing out loud. Not professional, but I guess they do not promote that either. Need better concern staff and for management to promote healthy, not pizza.

Misleading Upgrade Charges

MIDDLETOWN, OHIO -- DO NOT UPGRADE TO BLACK MEMBERSHIP UNLESS YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE you want it forever. You will be charged the full amount of a new membership to downgrade back to a normal level (in my case, this is $39). Don't get me wrong, Planet Fitness is a great gym. They have clean facilities with plenty of exercise equipment choices and their friendly policies make even the most novice of gym-goers feel comfortable. However, their business practices leave something to be desired.

When I decided to upgrade, thinking I would use other gyms while travelling for work, I specifically asked about downgrading back down to a regular membership in case I didn't use the Black level as much as I hoped. I was told that it was no obligations, it would be free and easy to go back. Not so. When I went in to my home gym to downgrade, I was told it would be $39 to go back to a regular membership. I won't bore you with the details of the conversations, phone calls, and trips to other gyms I've made (and there's more to come) but this is still not resolved. This is an egregious example of poor business practices and intentionally misleading consumers.

Rude and Unreasonable Staff

HOUSTON, TEXAS -- At the Planet Fitness at 1960 and I-45 in Houston today. I was going through my normal workout which includes one last set of dips as a "cool down" before I shower and leave. I went over to the "360" area to use the dip bars and there were three women on the far side of the area using the medicine balls.

I started to move the dip bar to the proper height and one of the three (who it turned out was a "trainer") ran over and said that the dip bar was off-limits because she was training. I asked her how I was interrupting her training when none of her "class (2 people)" was anywhere near the dip bar.

She stated that the whole 360 area was off-limits and reserved because she was present. I have been there when there have been group classes of 8 to 12 people all using the stations on the 360 equipment and would not dream of trying to "break in" to the group for a specific exercise, but when there were only 3 people in the whole area and it was not clear that one was a trainer, or that they were "having a class" her response was totally rude and out of line. I told her that she was being totally unreasonable and left. Planet Fitness is cheap, but the trainers are very far from professional. I guess you get what you pay for.

Buyer Beware! Hidden Fees and No Refunds!

DERBY, CONNECTICUT -- BUYER BEWARE! This company is there to suck your money! It costs 58 dollars to cancel membership and automatically renews for 39.99 plus your next monthly fee of 22 dollars so they get you coming and going. No refunds so I will report them to BBB. Customer service at this Derby CT center is hideous and the person who answers the phone has a nasty mouth. New Haven was at least nice and professional when I called to complain. The customer is always wrong here. Don't bother. Find another gym that bills professionally - it should even be legal! AND NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT CARD!

DENTON, COLORADO -- I recently moved to Colorado from Denton, Texas. Before I moved away in July I went into the Denton location to cancel my membership, and ended up putting it on freeze for 3 months. I was told by some guy with red hair that if I wanted to cancel my membership until after the 3 months, that I would not have to pay cancellation fees. I just received a call from the gym saying that they received my cancellation letter and when I explained to them what the team member said they told me that was incorrect and that they could not do anything about the fees, and that I would. I am BEYOND pissed off and furious.

I am currently 8 months pregnant and do not have time to go round and round with this, all because of some employee's mistake. The manager was rude and told me there's nothing I can do sign. I sign the contract WITHOUT the proper knowledge.

Required to give Checking Acct Info for a Gym Membership????

LOCKPORT, NEW YORK -- My advice on Planet Fitness - Do Not Join! Any place that requires checking account info: A - does not trust me and my credit cards, B - must be looking to somehow scam me out of my money. After reading several reviews and seeing how other customers were treated, I am so grateful I got out of my membership inside of 30 days. I offered to pay my membership in full in cash and was turned down.

If they do not want to accept Cash as payment in full, something is definitely wrong. If they ever got hacked and someone had access to everyone's Checking info - that would be devastating. If they can get into Target and Home Depot, they can get into anyone's. Do Not give out this checking account info to retailers or even family members. Just Don't DO IT.

Trying to Cancel Membership

AMESBURY, MASSACHUSETTS -- I belonged to Planet Fitness for around 10 years and I paid with a credit card every month. They automatically took it out each month. In August I got a notice to update my credit card so I stopped in to do this. At that time I was told that they no longer take credit cards and I would have to give them access to my checking account. I said "I didn't want to do that." So the girl told me that at the end of August my membership would expire. So I said ok. Now I get a bill for $50.00?? I went and talked to the same girl. She said I didn't cancel my membership.. "I was never told I had to. Why would I need to? You told me I was no longer a member. I said I wanted to cancel it."

She told me I can't till I pay the $50.00. Which I don't owe. WTF. They will keep adding on each month for something I can't use and they won't let me cancel. Has anyone else had this problem? What a rip-off. It's a shame because I really enjoyed going. It doesn't seem right. They changed the terms of the contract on the agreed payment plan, I guess they will have to see me in court. See if they can explain to the judge how they can do that!

Rude Employee

BARTLETT, TENNESSEE -- I'm seriously thinking about canceling my membership at the Bartlett, Tennessee location. I work two jobs and go to school full time. I've been able to balance everything out and also fit exercising into my busy schedule. Today 9/16/2014 there was a short, bald headed, African American male working at the desk round 5:30 pm that had on swim shoes. He's in there almost every day I'm there and I go four days out of the week. He approached me very unprofessional with regards to my membership. He yelled at me and interrogated me in regards to if I was a member.

He made it seem as if I just walked in without membership. I've been with PF for two years now. Between the times 4-6 pm it's very busy in there, there needs to be one line for people who want to sign up and join and another for the members who are checking in. There's too many employees standing around doing nothing for that desk to crowded with people waiting to workout.

When I get there I plan to be out by a certain time and not waiting in a line for 10 minutes. I live in the Bartlett area and the reason for me leaving the French Riviera Spa was for convenience. Seriously thinking about going back at least there you didn't have to wait in a line, you scanned your membership card yourself.
