BROOKLYN, NEW YORK -- I purchased two of Polaroid's PMP180 on Black Friday, seeing a display indicating they were only $13 each! Considered buying more. At the cashier, I learned it would be $13 after the $10 rebate. Fine. Got them home, realized only after opening up the plastic and reading through the guide that it won't work with the Mac. Also, didn't want to have to open up the second one to cut out the UPC to send in with rebate to get $10 back before giving as a gift. OK. Then got out our old PC laptop, downloaded albums onto the MP3 player, only to learn that the "rechargeable battery" doesn't work or hold a charge, even after more than a day, if it is disconnected from the power source. The packaging asks consumers not to return item to the store but rather to call the customer service hotline, M-Th 9-5, but nobody answers, ever, and nobody returns messages. Or e-mails. I'm returning both items Saturday. If I had known, never would have bought them, and will not be buying Polaroid again, even though the customer service problem is with Southern Telecom.

Was there any guarantee that the players were compatible with OS X? Most Mac users realize this issue and will confirm the comparability before making such a purchase. Additionally, the type of rechargeable battery does make a difference. Lithium batteries require a couple of good complete charges and dissipations before their battery length becomes set. Nickel Cadmium or Nickel Hydride batteries don't hold a charge for as long.

Before trying to return it to the store you purchased them from, it would be worth a call to confirm they are returnable; especially whereas the one has been opened.

Good luck on whatever is opened. If the packaging says don't return to the store, the store may not accept it and it becomes a manufacturer issue.

I recently bought the same item and have had the exact same issue with the battery not charging. Even with the battery charged completely, the most it will last is 1 hour. I'm very disappointed in the brand and product.

40" Polaroid TLC-04011C will not power on

If these reports are not a red alert not to buy this product then what would be? Guess we were more lucky than some but remain very disappointed in this company's product. We bought a Polaroid 40" TLA-04011C some four years ago for $800 - something. Worked great for four years then started fighting turning on (Would have to activate the power button two or more times), then eventually only the red standby light is on and refuses to turn on. Our Sony LCD widescreen has worked in the bedroom for many years without a single issue, love that TV and the picture quality. The Polaroid worked well enough except seems too cheaply built for the money involved. If you can't get ten years out of your TV then you were sold junk. Tempted to go back to a Sony wide screen standard tube with a HDTV converter or built in HDTV tuner. Not going to spend more money on any Polaroid product, nor deal with crappy service. Probably will go with a Sony LCD. Not likely ever another Polaroid and would only recommend a Poloroid product to a very few people I greatly dislike, such as a TV infomercial salesman. If there is a lawyer out there dealing with this crappy company than please let us know.

You got lucky that it lasted 4 years. I would just cut my losses, and next time research the best, and most reliable models before buying. Cnet.com or Consumer Reports are two good resources.

We have a Polaroid TV we inherited (lucky us). It's the worst TV ever. It works, but depending on the angle you're viewing it at, you can barely see the picture. We got it for free and I still want to put my foot through it.

Polaroid 32 inch DVD Combo are NO GOOD

I purchase a 32 inch Polaroid DVD TV from Walmart in Nov Of 2007. After two months the DVD player stop working they sent me another two onths after that the replacement stop working so I gave up calling them again. while watching TV in October 2010 a puff of smoke came out the top so I rushed to unplug it. I immediately called Polaroid, obviously they knew exactly what was going on they told me it would cost $222 for the part. I said no way that TV cost me $629 back in 2007, and now they are worth about 300 why can't they fix it or repalce it. I went online and to any website and saw so many people with the same problem that I am having with Polariod. I wonder how much it would cost to hire a lawyer to do something about Polaroid.

Call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 to report this and see what they know about this product. My guess is that if Polaroid does know about this they've got some corporate lawyers ready to defend them. So a lawyer might cost you quite a bit. A lot of lawyers offer a free consultation, though, so pick one out and see what they say.

I purchased this in Feb of 07. I did purchase the extended two-year warranty - had to use it once after the TV was just short of a year old and yesterday the piece of crap went out again. The volume was going up and down on its own - blue screen. We shut it off and it turned itself back on and now there is just a black screen. And the warranty is up!

I truly expected this TV to last longer than 3.5 years. Fooled once - not again!

why oh why is Polaroid crap TV breaks and then gets repairded just to do the same thing very next after repair, so spent $1000 on TV and $200 on repair and still no work. please help we bought polariod not knowing how crappy they are please do not buy anything with the diamond shape logo or if you do please contact laywer for your protection. thank you, your friend guy who hates Polaroid.

Polaroid is considered a tier 3 television, meaning very low quality with an inexpensive price to match. Frankly, I've got to side with Polaroid in that they only guarantee a very short time frame for the warranty and never guaranteeing any form of local service centers. They don't misrepresent what they are -- a cheaper alternative with a little higher risk if breakdown occurs.

In Spanish there is a saying for this. When translated it states, "The cheap comes out expensive." I think you can understand why. Especially when buying this kind of product, one should consider the level of risk they're willing to take.

I purchased a 32 inch polaroid flat screen tv with the built in dvd player from Walmart April, 2008. In early November, 2011, the dvd player went out and then on November 29, 2011 the screen went black. This TV is a waste of money. Please do not purchase flat screen tvs made by polaroid. This is a nightmare.

We bought a 32 inch Polaroid flat screen in Nov of o7 had to call Polaroid to have it fixed March of o8 OK no ones perfect so the sent the part in the mail and told me to call a company when the part got there they sent a man out who replaced what looked like the hole inside of the TV now its Aug of 2010 and the dam thing went up in smoke lucky for me I bought the extended warranty and aim sending the TV out to be fixed I hope but I see this thing falling apart again I would rather get my money back and buy a new TV hope I'm wrong and the TV keeps working or that a class action lawsuit to give us hard working relief

I'm starting to understand these cryptic posts. Scary. So, the guy had the tv repaired when it was 3 months old, then 3 years later, it broke again. Now he's sending it in for repair, again, and would appreciate a new tv instead. Good thing he purchased the extended warranty in this case--as long as it didn't cost too much. We have 2 Vizio flat screens. Neither has needed one repair in the 3-4 years we've had them.

Polaroid is what is referred to as a tier 3 television within the industry. They get their cheap price for a reason.

I won't argue the point that it was wise for you to pay for an extended service program on such a unit. I'm surprised that many places offer an extended at the rate of breakdown they can occur.

32 Inch Polaroid TV and DVD Combo Flat Screen sold at Wal-Mart is a very bad engineered product, the built in DVD player only worked correctly about three times, then after using the TV about two weeks it started making a funny noise after just turning it on, the noise was a winding sound coming from the built in DVD, and it will do this winding noise then stop and then start again for about five times before it stops. This will happen every time the TV is turned on and there is no DVD disk installed. Also now the built in DVD will not work at all when trying to play a DVD disk, just makes the aforementioned noise each time the TV is turned on. The TV itself works as a TV very well, its just the DVD that failed when the TV was less then a month old, and was told having it shipped back after being repaired, they would not guarantee something else might be broken in shipment. My personal option of this model of Polaroid TV is not worth the price.

Problems with this TV

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA -- We bought a 42 inch flat screen TV with the built in DVD player and we have had a lot of problems with this TV. The DVD some times get stuck in the player and we purchased the 2 year contract and they sent us a big box to send to them to repair, but by the time the box got here the DVD was released from the TV. Now my warranty is over and the TV has a sound but no picture I don't know what to do. I thought a TV should last more that 2 and a half years. We bought this from Walmart for 714 total..

Bit of bad news, Polaroid was dumping these sets for years on people. There were problems with them from day one.

This is typical of what you will find:

"I would not have filed a complaint until I read all the problems with this Polariod tv. I bought a Polariod Feb. of 2007. Two months later the picture went out but i still had sound."

If you had the TV since 2007, and it just went out now, you had better luck with it than others who bought Polaroid TV's. Polaroid TV's have historically been lemons.

CALIFORNIA, CALIFORNIA -- We bought this TV for my daughter the first thing to go was the DVD part she said that was ok we had other DVD players not there is no picture just sound this TV cost over 658.00 And now we have to pay to get it repaired and they are having a hard time finding the power source supply to replace it the TV is less the 2 1/2 years old not used much she just watched it at night I don't understand the company when they know that the product is a lemon and don't want to make it right with the customers. Everything is now get the money and forget about the customer service they should supply and take care of the customer that is what keeps the business going but with product like these lemons then they want last long. I have been in customer service nearly all my working life waiting tables and then working at movie gallery when you forget about the customer you lose everything that is why movie gallery is going out of business.

I think I should talk to a lawyer and see what can be done not only to pollard but also Wal Mart because they sold the product and only warranty it for 90 days at the store but the TV had a year warranty on it and Polaroid told us to ship it to them in California and they would repair it and then they would not guarantee it would not get broken before we get it back I am very unhappy with this product.

I will not buy a TV from Wal Mart again and I will make sure it is not a Polaroid. I know buy writing this it just gets it off my chest but it want solve anything so I hope someone will read the reviews and not get into the spot where we are.

typically stores offer a 30-90 day warranty on electronic merchandise. did you purchase an extended warranty thru polaroid? if so they should honor it. including if it is broken on the way back to you. that sure doesn't make a whole lotta sense why they would tell you that eh? sounds like they don't trust there own ability to return a tv in good shape to a customer.

We "inherited" a Polaroid TV from a deceased relative and it's the worst TV I've ever seen.

As much as I dislike Walmart, this isn't really their fault, assuming it's past the 90 days. Walmart didn't manufacture the TV, so they're not responsible for it being a piece of crap.

Definitely pursue it with Polaroid if you are within a warranty period. I don't think talking to a lawyer will help too much.

Polaroid is not longer a "brand name". The camera company went bankrupt years ago and sold the name "Polaroid" to the highest bidder. The new owner, a holding company manufacture's nothing-- it sells the name to anyone who will pay for it. All your "Polaroid" products are made by no-name manufacturers with no quality controls. They can be produced by anyone who pays the fee and called Polaroid. They are taking advantage of your happy and secure feelings from an earlier era.
