A Tricked Out Name Tag: Won't Help This Time
By -

Their taglines say "Be the boss of Savings", "Name your Price". Apparently that only works for some when signing up for auto insurance with Progressive Auto Insurance. February 16, 2010, I called Progressive Auto Insurance to get a quote because I wanted to make sure that I didn't mess up the policy online. I owe on a car loan to my credit union. The nice women on the other end was more than happy to help (She probably got a commission).

We went over the policy details, the fact that I had an accident in 2007 (not involving anyone else, the car slid during inclement weather - minor damage to the car, no damage to the concrete barrier, I filed with my old insurance) then she created a policy based on all of the information. "$87.00 a month, I exclaimed." "Wow, Progressive Auto Insurance really is the boss of savings."

My old insurance was $120.00 a month so that was quite a savings. She wrote up the policy and after a little difficulty signing online, the electronic fund transfer came out of the bank, $86.05 to be exact. February 22, 2010 the policy was effective. February 23, 2010, I called Progressive because I was unable to print my temporary card and had a gentlemen fax me the card and a copy of the policy. Everything remained the same at this point.

A couple of minutes later while still on the phone with him, I noticed that the policy increased. I told the man that the amount is not what I signed up for, of course, he couldn't do anything about it. After going through several other people and all of them saying that I should just cancel my policy (That's what I call keeping a NEW customer!). The final decision was, March, I will pay $158.73 and then it will drop to $122.88 for the remaining months. But remember, I can cancel if I want too.

Well, this note goes out to Progressive Auto Insurance, I think I WILL cancel the policy, after I get back from the navel base (you have to have proof to get on the base) and go back with my previous insurance company because after all Progressive Auto Insurance is NOT "the boss of savings." Don't let Progressive Auto Insurance fool you by saying "Name Your Price." How is that for "A tricked out name tag" Progressive Auto Insurance [** - no solicitations please].

Louie the Loanshark Would Be Less Expensive

TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- I had moved to a new city and state (Tulsa, OK), and needed to purchase a new car sooner than I'd expected, and would have soon sought new local insurance carrier anyway. Making deal for the new Chevy I wanted on a Saturday evening, manager insisted on assisting me in concluding all business then, helping by having an agent to execute insurance come there immediately, etc. -- I know to preclude losing the sale, should I change my mind by Monday.

I went with Progressive, and for three years, paid premiums by auto check. Traveled a lot during this time, so just kept receiving renewals and paying. Finally had enough sense to inquire elsewhere, and received same - exactly same!! - coverage via State Farm for 45% the cost -- Progressive more than 100% more expensive!! My own stupid fault for not checking earlier and I had perfect record, etc., so no logical reason for this differential.

While Progressive says they don't control charges via an agent, who can add agency overhead which may differ from their home office add-ons, I checked via their direct quote process at their home office, and quote was as much as the agent's so cannot blame agent for even 1¢ of their overage versus State Farm. Probably no legal prerogative, but I sent a strong letter of complaint to their CEO, got "sugary" voice mail and e-mail from their Texas-based manager responsible for Oklahoma. Have been playing phone tag, but his messages are simply standard crap, "sorry to lose you, want to explain premium procedures, badda beep, badda beep, badda beep."

Progressive and State Farm are both multi-billion-dollar outfits and some variance can certainly occur -- but 100% + ??? I have more respect for a loanshark/shylock -- at least he would let you know upfront where things stand. And how could Progressive compete in my state (OK) with this type of discrepancy? When I finally speak with this guy in Texas, I'll ask him how in hell they can maintain enough business in Oklahoma to keep him occupied, unless they are treating others differently from me.

Really really dissappointing experience

FREMONT, CALIFORNIA -- I have to start by saying that I had 2 points on my driving record. Simple violations such as not stopping long enough at a Stop sign and a car pool lane violation. I was with AAA at that time paying close to $3500 per year for two cars, so I decided to switch to progressive. The reason is I got a quote for about $2500 from them. But, for some reason or the other the premium went up periodically over 6 months and I was paying close to $4K. When both of my points came off, I requested them to rewrite it. They refused to do it for another 5 months based on some weird rules. I finally had enough and came back to AAA who welcomed me back with open arms.

Now, I pay close to 1900 with them. Now, progressive is still charging me some more money and a $50 cancellation fee. I would never ever go to them for Auto insurance ever again. This is the worst money sink I have ever had. They would rather lose me as a client than to restructure my deal when my points went off.

Auto Accident/insurance

DULUTH, MINNESOTA -- We only had our policy with Progressive for 3 days and my wife hit a deer. I was reluctant about turning it in with such a new policy, but I ended up doing so anyway. The damage was about $1700. They interviewed my wife over the phone 3 times. Then they had her interviewed by their attorneys. Then they had us both interviewed by two of their attorneys and the claims adjuster. They were horribly rude and accusing. We are honest, hard working people who had an unfortunate accident.

My wife reported the accident immediately, had a police report, and did everything she was supposed to do. They were happy to take our money, but when they were asked to do what they were paid to do, they backed-out. Terrible company and customer service. We missed several hours of work playing their little 20 Questions games. We ended up paying for the damage ourselves but Progressive dragged it out long enough so they could get a couple more monthly payments out of us. Which were EXTREMELY expensive.

They had us on high risk when we should not have been. We of course dropped them after they made their decision. We found another insurance company for almost $200 per month less!! Progressive Insurance is nothing but a bunch of thieves with a license to steal. Beware of this company! They will charge much more than they should and if you have an accident, they will do whatever they can to get out of paying. It's no wonder they have so much money to spend on advertising.

Price spike on auto insurance

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA -- So I've been a valued customer according to Progressive. Hmmm... well two months ago, I look and see a slight increase, so I call them. I talked to a woman, or should I say puppet. I ask why the increase? She replies, "it happens every so often." She said it has to do with corporate office. I didn't argue the fact, it was only a 15$ increase.

Last month I received some valued customer thing in the mail saying look for a discount the following months to come. So I just opened my new bill to find a 100$ increase per month, 1200$ annual. I call again, and talk to yet another puppet, who says the same exact thing. One would think if they're going to make such drastic increases they would have someone to talk to with the correct answers. Not just guinea pigs.

I have a clean driving history, I'm 41, and pay, or would be paying should I say 350.00 a month for a ford F150. I've been insured, and screwed by them for the last time. After 10yrs with them, I will be happy to say goodbye, and will never give a recommendation. For whoever reads this, this is a true story. They're all scams, but Progressive is the best at it. Good luck.

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO -- Rudest people ever. Crooks from owner down to claims people. Peter is stupid or just doesn't care how these crooks that work for him lie, cheat and steal from people. The same people pay him millions of dollars every year. They spend millions on that stupid ‘Flo' commercial and won't fix or pay 5 or 6 thousand to take care of paying customers. These people will be out of a job someday. You can't lie, cheat and steal from people forever. Claims people sent my car to three of their preferred shops. My car was never fixed to satisfactory running condition. Really rude people at Progressive. Liars and thieves.

MILLERSVILLE, MARYLAND -- My daughter was the victim of a hit and run. A criminal offense. The police caught the person within hours. Upon notifying PROGRESSIVE she was told It MIGHT not go against her and she would have to pay the deductible. This is ridiculous!!! They do anything they can to NOT pay out. Here is a case where they have a crime, the perpetrator's name and address yet they want their client to Belly Up.

Unbelievable. I had recommended NOT going with an impersonal online company because of this very reason. They should be shut down. I contacted both ** the “ONLINE REP” and his boss ** and was told tuff. So now you know the cost of saving 40 buck a year in premium. $250.00 deductible, which you pay, whether it's your fault or not. Even if a crime (HIT AND RUN) is committed, they do not care. You still PAY. Save yourself this aggravation and deal with a local representative that will go to bat for you and also supports your community.

Progressive — I am a safe driver with 17 years of driving experience and 0 tickets 0 accidents. Couple of days ago got rear ended in my 2010 Rav4, reported the accident to Progressive. The guy who rear ended me had Farmers insurance. Progressive lady told me not to worry, the claims adjuster will call tomorrow by 5pm and will take care of everything.

Two days later still no call from Progressive claims adjuster, so I called the guy's at fault Farmers insurance. They stated the guy called in and admitted it was his fault. They gave me a list of qualified shops to take my car to, and arranged for a car rental. Also they said if I needed a rental for longer period they will cover that as well.

I called Progressive all they do is apologize and do NOTHING, big on promises very little on delivery. I am just wondering if they treat me this bad and the accident wasn't my fault and the other insurance company pays for everything, how bad would they have treated me if it was my fault? At any rate if Farmers does a good on it's promise to fix my car to 'as good as new' condition I will switch my 2 cars and 2 home owners policies to them.

Not a Professional Company

I provided Progressive insurance company all the details of my claim. They juggled me with different reps. And, at the end did not pay me the claim amount. Very unprofessional reps. Don't go with Progressive. They Provided the estimate and told me to give the car to the body shop whichever I select or Progressive approved.

I took my car to the body shop of my choice and their claims representative came and inspected the car and said everything is good and they will release the payment to the car shop directly. Once the job was completed, they called me and said they are investigating and will not release the payment. I paid the money out of pocket after the 21 days wait of Progressive not releasing the money. I called them for 3 months and they juggled me with different reps and in the end did not gave the money. I would not recommend Progressive to new customers.

Progressive Insurance Claim? Better Get a LAWYER
By -

A Progressive insurance driver decided he liked my lane better than his. He was looking in his rearview just as I was passing by and shot out into my lane. I swerved to avoid him unsuccessfully. The officer found him at fault but because the guy was being such a jerk the officer only gave him a warning citation for unsafe lane change. The officer caught him in a lie and noted it. It was diagramed fairly correct. But since there are no "witnesses" and two statements Progressive won't pay my claim. I am not going to claim this on my insurance so my rates go up. I am not going to just give up. So I'm going to find a lawyer. This is crazy.
