Unreliable - You Should Go Elsewhere, With A Major Car Rental Chain
Posted by on
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- In February 2008, I contacted USA Auto Rentals (which was recently acquired by Quality) and booked a rental car for my family for March 2008. I spoke to "Leidy", who quoted me a total rate of $341.47, and gave me a reservation number.

On the day before I was to fly to Florida, I received a telephone call from USA Auto Rentals, confirming my reservation and informing me of USA Auto Rentals' free shuttle service from the Fort Lauderdale airport to the rental facility. The caller asked about my flight information, which I provided. The caller instructed me to call (954) 581-1880 to reach the shuttle service, and told me that the shuttle would pick up me and my family and bring us to the rental facility when we arrived.

My family's flight to Fort Lauderdale was delayed, and I therefore was unable to call the shuttle number of (954) 581-1880 until 11:35pm. When I called, there was no answer, and no answering machine. I tried again with the same result. I then tried the main number for USA Auto Rentals, (866) 631-7368, which also rang and rang, and finally went to a recorded message that said, "Answer off". I tried several more times to call the shuttle number, but no one answered.

As it was late at night, and I was unable to reach anyone at USA Auto Rentals, I was stranded at the Fort Lauderdale Airport. I was traveling with my wife and 20-month old son, and we needed to drive several hours that night to stay at a hotel that we had already booked. I had no choice but to rent a car from another company, which charged me $504 for the week, $162.53 more than USA Auto Rentals had promised me that my rental would cost.

I called the following morning, on 3/15/08, and spoke to "Samantha", who said that she did not understand what had happened and assured me that USA Auto Rental did in fact do "after hours pickups."

Over the course of the next four days, I tried repeatedly and unsuccessfully to reach a manager at USA Auto Rentals to discuss what had happened and to see whether the company would do anything for me. On Wednesday, March 16, 2008, I finally reached an individual named "James", who told me that he was a manager for USA Auto Rentals. James explained that Quality had recently acquired USA Auto Rentals and that they had had some problems servicing USA's customers. He did not explain what had happened exactly or why USA had failed to honor the reservation that I had made. Instead, he told me that he was very busy and could not even discuss the matter with me until the following week. I gave him the number for my cell phone. Neither he nor any other employee or manager of USA or Quality has contacted me since then.

This company isn't reliable. I thought that I could save some money by booking with them, but I will go with major car rental chains from now on.

Car Parking / Wrecked my car!
Posted by on
33316, FLORIDA -- While on vacation in Feb 2008 I parked our car at Quality Car & Van Rental in Ft Lauderdale. While my car was there they wrecked the back bumper. I have attempted to contacted the owner [snip] many times and he is always "out of the office". He has never returned my calls. The damage cost is $545.10 for the repair and they still have not paid for it! I would not suggest parking your car with them.

I understand accidents happen, but they have the opportunity to make this right and to this point have not. My next step is legal action.

This is easy. Go to your courthouse and file a small claim for (around) $20. You can add the court cost to what they owe you. Then they either have to show up in court and explain why they won't pay, or you get a judgment. If they fail to pay the judgment, you pay your local sheriff (again, add it to the total) and he will go down in person to collect for you.

I agree. Three months is more than enough time to return calls or pay for the damage done to your car. Before you hire a lawyer, I suggest sending the owner a certified letter stating your intent to pursue settlement in the courts. Give the owner 14 days to send payment. If you get no response or only an evasive reply...lawyer up and take them to court. Good luck poster!

How do you know that they wrecked the back bumper? Maybe it was another parking customer and they never even mentioned it to the staff. Did you sign something saying that they will be responsible for damage? I work at a parking facility in Orlando and the form the customers sign indicates that we are not responsible for any damage. We don't inspect the cars that people park with us. If we were responsible I'll bet we would have a ton of people trying to get their cars fixed that came in damaged. I'm not saying that your car was already damaged, but how are they to know it wasn't already like that? I agree that the manager should contact you to discuss it, but you might want to make sure that you didn't sign something relieving them from responsibility.

trp2hevn - A signed waiver does not relieve the parking establishment from exercising 'due care' in protecting users cars from damage. Those waivers are nearly as worthless as those signs in lots stating "We are not responsible for damage." Not all consumers are out to scam businesses. It is unreasonable to assume this poster went in with a damaged vehicle and then came here to gripe when it wasn't fixed.

Avoid at all costs!
Posted by on
FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- I would recommend fellow travelers to avoid this establishment at all costs. They quickly tack on additional fees to the price you get quoted through your site. I had an economy car that should have been around $25. However, when it was all said and done it was nearly double. "Read the fine print" was what I got. The car was at least 10 years old with no power locks/windows and mal-aligned steering. The management is unprofessional and never returned calls. I work for the NFL and can say that it is much better to utilize a reputable company like Avis / Hertz / dollar / enterprise than deal with this one. Those companies are on-site at the airport and don't utilize "fine print" to elevate car rates. Not to mention cars at these national chains were built with-in the last decade.

Why didn't you use your own advice and rent a car from one of the majors?
scottk on 02/16/2008:
Mr. [snip] from Millsboro, Delaware failed to mention that during his rental period of January 2 through January 16, 2007 he had racked up nine (9) parking citations that he never paid nor brought to our attention. These nine (9) citations including late penalties cost him $465.75 and yes, they were applied to his credit card as per our contractual agreement. He then claimed that he was going to pay them....As for the 10 year old vehicle....My records indicate that the vehicle he rented was a 2006 Chevy Cobalt with 25702 on the odemeter when he returned. If there is any person that wishes to speak with me or even see copies of the parking tickets, I may be reached at my office Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm at 954-828-1212.

If you by chance make a mistake and utilize this company, be sure to keep your receipts after dealing with these clowns. Also, be sure to use a credit card and not a debit card.

The credit card company's (after following the rules) will be more than happy to REVERSE the charges.

Unreliable Car Rental company
Posted by on
FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- Unreliable, dishonest, useless car rental company. Stick with the pros the real car rental companies.

This company doesn't honor their own reservation and confirmations. Can you imagine landing at the airport, calling the rental car company to say I'm coming to pick up my rental car here is my confirmation number and the voice on the other end says - I have no cars on the lot !!!! I insisted that I confirmed my reservation a few days ago. The woman on the other end agreed and said the computer system verifies my confirmation number, but I don't have any cars on the lot. Good-bye.

They make sure you the renter understand that if you don't cancel or pick up the car you will be charge for a full day rental plus $25.

This is what happens when you try to save a buck and your schedule is tight. Next time, try one of the big national chains - at least they usually have enough cars.

I had an experience with Enterprise where I rented, and confirmed online(two weeks in advance)I arrived to pick up my rental, and was advised the type of car I wanted was not on the lot. They were very nice and upgraded my rental at no extra cost to me
LennyGuy on 04/20/2007:
I always select the cheapest car an agency rents and about 80-90% of the time they do not have that in stock and upgrade me for free (before they tell me they don't have it in stock they ask me if I want an upgrade and I always say "No"). If I do get stuck with the cheapest car, that is OK too. But I can't believe 'no cars' at all in the lot.

I had the same problem with these clowns, only they didn't even pick up the phone when I called for their shuttle service.

Although they had called me the day before to instruct me to call them for free shuttle service from the airport, there was no answer when I called. They left me and my family completely stranded at the airport late at night, and I was forced to rent another car for $160 more.

Yep, I couldn't agree more -- this company is useless. I am going to stick with the real rental car companies from now on. I thought I was going to save money going with a lesser-known outfit, but in the end I paid a heavy price.
