Rental is a dirty and has many issues
Posted by on
CARRBORO, NORTH CAROLINA -- Looked at house 2 months ago to rent, and one of the comments I made was that it was not too clean. I was assured it would be. When I got here it was very dirty, walls marked up, cracked and peeling paint. Based boards dirty, and it has not been painted years. The bathroom has rotten wood and mold. Yard has not been cleaned since last year before the leaves fell. Duck tape is around pipes to cover holes in walls. Half of the windows do not have screens. Owner does not want to pay for painting everything. Red Door is supposed to fix the bathroom, but it is now 6 days later and I have only had the walls in two rooms painted and the yard cleared. I cannot set up anything from my move, I have asked twice to get out of my contract with no response. My next move is code enforcement and an attorney.

I have heard of people do the following with the help of some lawyers. Set up an escrow account, pay the rent (to stay current) into the escrow account and when the house it up to the standards you agreed up at signing, the money is released and everyone moves forward. Might be worth checking into

Over 20 code violations - cracked walls, peeling paint and a bathroom window that is falling apart.. I talk to an attorney on Wednesday. Both owner and rental agency are attorneys. They did not care that this has destroyed my life. I cannot unpack and I am sleeping on the floor. They are not responding to me. At least they will have to respond to the city.

yeah get a lawyer

back when I was in Virginia beach one of my neighbors had issues with the landlord not taking care of issues. she finally called up the local authorities to get her apartment inspected and it was condemned.

as I see it... you're not just paying them for a roof over your head. you're paying them for an apartment that is livable.

the only thing against your story I have is that... you should have never even moved in. not until they fixed the issues.

though I understand sometimes you don't always have that option.

good luck and yes yes yes get a lawyer.

Rented from them for 3.5 years. Service is crap. Rental unit was crap. They talk smooth and quote the law, but if you need or want something you are on your own. Going to court also.
