Rotting Avocados
By -

CHICO, CALIFORNIA -- In these times of consumer and economic hardship, I am continually disappointed when I watch large bins of avocados spoil as they remain at the high prices posted at Safeway. I am unclear as to why these ripening avocados could not be reduced and moved into the community, rather than sitting and rotting at $1.50 ea. I know this produce is a high commodity.

However I have seen them at roadside stands for much less, rather than throw them out. Avocados are a healthy resource for people and should not be wasted because of over pricing. Please consider lowering the prices of overly ripe avocados so that consumers and Safeway can take advantage of this delicious, healthy fruit. It's a WIN/WIN conclusion.

Safeway Scanner Overcharging
By -

PORTLAND, OREGON -- I have learned to avoid Safeway as much as possible due to the frequent scanner errors. I shop all stores in my area, but never experience the number of scanner problems that I experience at Safeway. I believe that these are deliberate overcharges on sale items. Yesterday I was overcharged over $6. on a 2-for-1 ice cream sale for Dreyer's (the scanner charged me about $13. for 2 packages when it should have been more like $6.49 for 2).

I believe that Safeway does this intentionally to get extra revenue (knowing full well that the small number of errors reported will still amount to a huge profit on these items). I have reported this problem to the State of Oregon, but the problem persists without a fine to Safeway.

Terrible service.

REDMOND, WASHINGTON -- This is the second night in a row that I have not received my order. The first night the driver called and said he would be nearly an hour late. He called back a few minutes later and said he realized he didn't have all of my order on his truck, and it would "take hours" to get the order from the "right truck". He made it clear he did not want to do the delivery yesterday. I called Safeway and complained, they said they had already charged my credit card, and it would take up to a week to refund the changes.

This is day two, and still no groceries - and no phone call from the driver. When I called Safeway customer service, they were certain the groceries were on their way. I called back an hour later, and this time they said their computers were down, and they wouldn't be able to help me. Perhaps I will get the groceries tomorrow night - but even if I do, it's the last time I use their delivery service. It's terrible, and their customer support is awful.

Compliment

ELLICOTT CITY, MARYLAND -- I love shopping at Safeway! They have the best produce of any supermarket in my area and the employees are so friendly. It takes at least two hands to count the number of cashiers who are exceptional - fast, accurate and courteous. If there is an item out of stock on the shelves, I've always talked to someone who promptly checked the back for additional product. And being a mother with young children, I LOVE the fact that they offer you assistance out to your car if you need it. I will also add that I've had to contact customer service on a couple occasions, and they have the BEST customer service department I've ever dealt with. Keep up the great work Safeway!

Beware of Credit Card Use at Pump
By -

GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO -- Safeway City Market and all fuel stations are holding up to 75.00 out of credit or debit cards every time you use it - even if you change your mind and don't get gas. I plan to sue. I called my bank and they said that they hold for two days and this applies to anywhere you get fuel, City Market, Q&T, etc. This is outrageous.

Why Safeway cashiers are so rude?
By -

KAILUA KONA, HAWAII -- I don't know why the cashiers at Safeway in the Big Island of Hawaii are so rude. Every time I go to the store, the cashiers are very unhappy people. They are all most the time making bad face when see the line, when have customer using WIC check for their kids or when they don't know the item code. You never find the manager.

Lucerne Milk Container Advertising
By -

I generally purchase Lucerne 2% milk in gallon containers. I noticed when I got home that on the reverse side of the container (opposite the Lucerne label) was an ad for cookies. Are you kidding me? Milk, considered a healthy food and one that is subsidized by the government, advertising cookies! Branding milk with cookie ads is a new low in advertising. As long as this continues I will buy milk at a store other than Safeway.

Why No IMO?
By -

ALASKA -- I am very disappointed that Safeway/Carrs no longer sells IMO Sour Cream substitute. Here in Alaska we don't have that many choices of grocery stores to choose from. It would be great if you would put it back on your shelves. If I ever find it at another store in my area I will definitely shop there. Why stop selling a good product? It has a very good shelf life and is very tasty.

Cheated Out of Sale Price
By -

CALIFORNIA -- Pickles were supposed to be on sale for $2.50 but my ticket said they charged me the full price. When I pointed it out, all they did was refund me the difference. What about all the people who don't bother to check their ticket before they leave the store, which is probably almost everyone? Safeway is getting $1.50 more out of each jar they sell vs. what people think they are paying based on the shelf tag price! They are a bunch of crooks.
