Beware of Saveology Scam!! What a fraud!
Posted by on
I called Saveology to sign up for Dish Network based on a promotion that was advertised in a mailer. Upon calling, several things are clarified that are extremely misleading ("No setup fees and no installation fees!" Oh, but there's a $50 processing fee! But we forgot to put that on the ad!). They force you to sign up for a "free trial" of some service called "Support Squad" - supposedly a tech support service. I aggressively tried to decline the "free trial", but was told that I needed to cancel it after it was processed instead. Whatever. The call goes on and more shady practices are uncovered and I tell the guy on the phone I changed my mind; I don't want to sign any kind of contract with a company that's this crooked. He convinces me to let the tech come by the next day and I can read the contract, if I still don't want to sign it, all charges will be reversed and I won't be penalised at all... fine. I finish the call and hang up. An hour later, I'm still thinking about it, and still mad, so I call Saveology back and cancel. I check the next day, and the $57 or whatever has been credited back to my account.

Fast forward three months - I notice a charge on my credit card that I don't recognise - "Support Squad - $9.99 - 888-225-8568". I search my email for "support squad" and see the initial email from Saveology. So, I call the phone number and explain that the service was cancelled, I never wanted it in the first place, I don't have Dish Network, and I never got any bills, receipts, confirmations or even account info from "Support Squad" to even be able to use their services. They say that they can only reverse 1 month's worth of charges. They say that they can't reverse anything more than that because I purchased the service through a 3rd party reseller (Saveology), but the CSR also says that Saveology couldn't reverse the charges either. After arguing with them for about 20 minutes, she offers to pull the recording of the initial call - if I didn't authorise the charges, then she could reverse them. Well, the problem is, even IF I authorised the charges, I called back an hour later and cancelled! "Well, sir, they wouldn't be able to cancel the charges then because they're only a 3rd party reseller." "Whatever, pull the call. While I'm waiting the 3 weeks it takes to do that, I'll call them, and maybe I'll call my credit card company and report the charges as fraudulent." I hang up.

Next, I call Saveology and start at the beginning of the story. They say they can't reverse the changes because they're only a 3rd party reseller.

Me:"Whatever. You guys are the ones that sold me the service. You guys are the ones that cancelled the Dish Network service. You guys are the ones that should have told me how to cancel the Support Squad service. Now, let me talk to your manager and voice my complaint before I call my credit card company and dispute the charge with them."

So, that CSR tells me that I should have called and cancelled the first time I was charged the $10 (a month after this was supposed to be CANCELLED), after all, "that's why they provide their phone number on the credit card charge." So, apparently, that's it, when you sign up for this "totally legitimate tech support company", they don't send you any emails, no snail mail, no account information, no introduction, no list of services, no welcome letter... nothing. They just bill you, and if you have any questions, you're expected to get the phone number from that line of your credit card statement. That's not shady at all! Soooo... the CSR gets her manager and they decide to "make an exception and refund all the charges".

Me: "Wait... I thought Saveology was just a 3rd party reseller and they couldn't refund the charges?!?!"
Saveology: "Sir, I said that we are a reseller for Dish Network, and I couldn't refund any charges from them."
Me: "Who said anything about charges from Dish Network? I didn't ask you ANYTHING about Dish Network! This is the first time anybody mentioned Dish Network during this call! So, you are affiliated with Support Squad then?"
Saveology: "Yes, sir, that's what I said..."
Me: "Whatever. You should hurry up and process my refund before I lose it."
Saveology: "You should see the refund on you credit card statement within 14 business days"

What a friggin' scam!! Beware of Saveology and Support Squad! If these people get a hold of your credit card number, make sure you check your statements! And keep checking your statements!!

Is Saveology, a third party? Why not just go through Dish Network on your own? I always see commercials, for first time customers and they offer some nice deals.

Ordered cable in Astoria, offered inexpensive router and modem through Saveology. They sent it to the wrong address, then canceled that order promised overnight shipping, however per UPS that was not possible for that date as they aren't even open that day. They wouldn't cancel the order, so I had to call UPS to stop shipment( they told me the company knows they have to do that) So 5 phone calls later(each employee assuring the other "bad employee will get a note in their file") I now am playing the waiting game for my money back. They talk a good game but that's all it is......a game. Don't work with this company if you can avoid it!!!!

I'm always suspicious of third party 'bargain' vendors that have 'affiliate' programs and other slick tricks to get you to buy their products. By the time you finally get a (hopefully) working product, it's not such a bargain anymore. Thanks for the warning about Saveology.

I too have had an unpleasant experience with Saveology. I called Comcast and never knew I was talking to Saveology until it was too late. We haven't been able to get Comcast where I live so I was calling to see if they were coming to our neighborhood soon. I was told by the person I spoke to that they were indeed, "recently servicing our neighborhood". Blatant lie!! When I called to arrange installation, I found that Comcast was not in our area and I had just given my credit card to some jerk who was charging $89.00 to it for a router I didn't even need. Three calls and two hang ups later, I finally got someone who says they have cancelled the order. We shall see!

I too was suckered into purchasing a wireless router from what I thought was COMCAST with a promise of a full rebate. This was in May 2012.....I am STILL waiting on the rebate check from Saveology Tech and it is March 2013. Has ANYONE ever received their rebate???
Chau on 05/16/2013:
Either I got VERY lucky or someone took action. I requested status update for my rebate on May 10th or so, they kept giving me the 'Your rebate is redeemed. Please allow 3-4 weeks for your check to arrive.' Today, May 16th, the check arrived, the date on it is 'May 14th'. I do hope I'm not the only one.
Barry on 08/20/2013:
Cahu... you are the lucky one.... you must live a charmed life.... this company Saveology is really a joke .... I too thought I was dealing with comcast when I spoke with comcast they said this is a separate company....comcast knows there are problems with the promised rebates but they will not help...I sent my rebate form in Oct.2012 here it is Aug of 2013 and still no rebate.. when they tell you 18 weeks wow its been 45 weeks ....the people in the cust svc center are located in Ft Lauderdale Fl because they had to leave Newport News Va last year....we know why...... Good Luck..
Texprissy on 08/26/2013:
I fell for this scam since Comcast sales rep recommended that I purchase Modem for $109.99 and Router for $69.99 from Saveology in Jan 2013. I mailed in my rebate paper work to them and have made several phone calls to Saveology Tech and they have given me the run around on my rebates. I contacted BBB and Saveology Tech will not respond to them. Still don’t have rebate as of Aug 2013. This rebate offer from Saveology Tech is a scam don’t buy from them.

Saveology rebate for Comcast never arrives
Posted by on
FORT LAUDERDALE, UTAH -- Comcast Promotion Redemption form completed for Triple Play Preferred rebate of $225. All documents sent via mail per the instructions. Rebate is done by Saveology.com. Waited the 18 weeks, rebate never received. Called Saveology, stated they never got my paperwork. Told to fax it in. Did so. Again they stated they did not receive the fax although I had confirmation that is went through. Faxed again, they received it.
Had to wait another 18 weeks for it to be processed. That time passed and again, no rebate. They keep you on-hold, Supervisor is never available to get on the phone. Service representative brought issue to Supervisor's attention and promised Supervisor would call back. Never happened. Next call, they state they need verification that I got the Preferred Bundle package at Comcast. Despite the fact that the Comcast bill verifying this was sent to them with the original rebate form, they wanted it faxed to them again. Promised I would receive a check in 3-4 weeks once they had this document. I am not holding my breath. This seems like another delay tactic.

Of course it is, they want you to give up.
BokiBean on 08/07/2009:
I've read articles about people who deal with large numbers of rebates (a guy who repaired and sold computers, for example) who knew how to get their rebates honored.

Keep pushing. If you still don't get results, start complaining to the BBB, the rebate people, etc. It takes a while, but unless this is a total scam, you should get it.

I wish you would keep us posted..I would like to hear how this works out.

you comply...(which everyone does inadvertently) they proceed to EXTRACT your address from you so that they can "make sure services are available".......
