Bad coffee

Seattle Coffee Direct is rip off.

Have charged me for coffee and have kept sending it to me and I do not want it. Have even sent it back in mail. E-mailed when I could and asked them to stop it. Still sent coffee. This was some sort of introductory special to win something. A rip off. Now, I cannot e-mail company. A ripoff!

So did you order it originally as some free trial offer? Or did you order it and not like the product and now want to cancel your order? Their site "says" you can get a full refund by calling 888-217-CAFE. If you haven't already, try calling instead of emailing. Good luck!

Seattle Coffee is the worst coffee I have ever drank! YUCK!!
Posted by olivekat on 2007-05-01:
I can't say that it is the worst coffee. It's okay but the grinder they sent doesn't close right. It seems like there's something wrong with it and the offer was bogus. They said it was all for $9.00 to try. My credit card was charged 34.99 immediately and that's expensive coffee, not worth it. The number to call goes into an answering machine which is then picked up by some company out of Illinois, who called back leaving a message that she cancelled my membership. Nothing about a refund. Maybe they will call back. I left another message. I'll let you know.

I just today received my first shipment from them. I first signed up April 24th. Tonight I was checking my online checking info and found Seattle Coffee Direct had already billed me again. This caused me to be a bit suspicous - especially once I tried going to their website to cancel my subscription (their ad says you can cancel at any time) and there is not access to cancel AND once I read the MANY complaints on various sites where others have reported their fradulent practices.

I was not able to contact my bank tonight and did not want to leave this out there (one person said they were billed 4 times in 1 1/2 months), so I called the automated system and cancelled my debit card. Perhaps this is unreasonable, but I have never dealt with a situation like this before and am not about to leave my bank account open to endless unauthorized debits.

I want to give a big THANKS to all the others who have posted comments providing information about this company. Without it I could not have taken quick and decisive action.

I was charged $38.95 TWICE in 4 days. After cancellation, I am on my 16th days waiting for the refund to show up on my CC. This is the worst company I've dealt with in getting refund back in my 20 years of online shopping experience. This did teach me a lesson though, from now on, I will only use virtual credit card on a never-heard-of company such as seattlecoffeedirect.com.

Seattle Coffee Direct Rip Off!
Posted by Elillie on 04/16/2009
This company advertised something different than what was sent. It said a free COFFEE grinder would come with the beans. This company over charged for what was sent, and has terrible customer service, denying this advertisement of a grinder free. This company sent damaged product - as one of the coffee cups (generic white, no name, dollar general looking cups )was broken... I didn't even order them anyway...and I guess they were sent instead of the grinder??? What the heck do I do, smash the beans with the bottom of the already broken cup??? Without the free grinder part of the advertisement I WOOULD NOT have purchased the WHOLE BEANS I would have gotten it already grinded!!!! So a complete disappointment order.....absolutely nothing was right about it!

ALSO THEY DID NOT SEND CONFIRMATION TO THE COMPANY THAT GIVES ME THE FREE WII, SO I GOT NO CREDIT!!! SO I BASICALLY THREW MY MONEY IN THE TOILET!!! It was not worth all the phone calls to TRY TO FIX everything cause they didn't DO ANYTHING FOR ME, NO REFUNDS NO CREDIT NO CONFIRMATION, NO GRINDER, NO NOTHING! STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFER!!!!

Ripped Off/Multiple Unauthorized Charges
Posted by JamieInMichigan on 04/02/2009
EVANSTON, ILLINOIS -- 4/1/09

This is the biggest scam ever! First, it cost me $25 for 2 mugs, 2 travel mugs, and one bag of coffee, which wasn't a bad deal. The scam was that the company IMMEDIATELY started CHARGING me for shipments of coffee every 2 days, charging my debit card $38.95 3 times within 6 days! I called immediately and told them that I didn't order all that coffee and I wanted the charges credited right away. I still have NOT received my credit of $116.85! Everytime I call, which has been MULTIPLE times, I am told "It takes 10-14 days to receive a credit." And, not one person I have talked to had an EXPLANATION why they were CHARGING MY DEBIT CARD MULTIPLE TIMES! Well, it didn't take 10-14 days for them to receive the MONEY THEY STOLE FROM ME! I did not order their products then decide that I did not want them! Instead, THEY JUST CHARGED MY CARD 3 TIMES FOR COFFEE I THAT I DID NOT ORDER! I called again tonight and left a message on their machine again! They NEVER call back. So, I will call in the morning again! BEWARE OF SeattleCoffeeDirect.com, THEY ARE HUGE SCAM ARTISTS. They should NOT be allowed to do business!

4/2/09

Just a follow up warning to all those who have been victims of unauthorized charges...I just wanted to share with everyone the other names SeattleCoffeeDirect.com uses to charge our credit and debit cards. These are the following names they used to charge my debit card:
Metro Coffee Roast, Bellezza Coffee, CoffeeRoastersDirect.com, and SeattleCoffeeDirect.com.

Also, I did make a complaint to the Illinois better business bureau on 4/1/09. The website address for complaints is: www.chicago. bbb.org and email is: info@chicago. bbb.org. Phone (312)832-9985 and Fax: (312) 832-9985.

If anyone is interested in SeattleCoffeeDirect's address it is: SeattleCoffeeDirect, 990 Grove Street, Suite 204, Evanston, IL 60201 and customer service is 1-888-217-2233 from 10am-6pm Monday through Friday.

I hope that everyone on here will make a complaint to the BBB of Illinois about these SCAM ARTISTS!

Go to your bank and have them reverse the charges.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-02:
On the page for that special offer there is a clearly indicated link to the terms. The OP probably did not read them. Accepting the offer includes the following provision: Semimonthly Program: Twice a month you will receive a package with 2 bags of coffee and will be billed $12.50 per bag of coffee, plus $6.98 per bag for shipping and handling. Your total per shipment will be $38.96. However, the OP has stated being charged 3 times in 6 days. That's not part of the conditions. A charge back is definitely in order.
Posted by JamieInMichigan on 2009-04-02:
I did read the terms and you are supposed to have an opportunity to cancel before they send out the first shipment while you are trying out the 5 for $5 products that including coffee. But, I was not given that opportunity considering they charged me multiple times within 6 days of signing up. Also, I actually just talked to a "manager" again today. She gave me more of a run around about getting a credit on my card for the $116.85. She told me that they sent one of the credits back on 3/16/09 and that they don't know why I haven't received it. NO CREDIT WAS RECEIVED IN MY ACCOUNT FOR ANY PORTION OF THE $116.85 AS OF YET! OMG, they are the worst. She told me again today that I would have to wait an additional 14 business days to see a credit. Every time I talk to someone, they tell me I have to wait an additional 14 days. It's been 19 days today!
I did talk to my bank and have to write out a statement and fax it to them, then wait another 10 business days to get the credit. What a mess!
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-02:
I stand corrected. It does indeed say you can cancel at any time. One mistake you did make was using your debit card. That gave them immediate access to your money. An unscrupulous company or an 'error' can wipe you out in seconds. It's very difficult to get the funds returned. Next time use a credit card. I did notice that they say it can take 1-2 billing cycles to get a refund. A debit card has no billing cycles.
Posted by sgjj on 2009-05-20:
Same thing happened to me. Luckily I checked my CC transactions frequently. When I noticed that I was charged $38.95 twice in 4 days, I called immediately to cancel my account. (Obviously they charged way before actual shipment since I never received the 2nd shipment.) I was promised the refund would show up on my CC in a week, now 16 days later and numerous calls to the CS, the refund still has not showed up on my CC. I also just filed a complain to the Illinois BBB.
Posted by ElinaDakine on 2009-09-18:
Just got the shaft from these people as well! Next time I will do more research on a company before ordering. So far I'm out about $200 dollars. They even sent my bank a letter saying they processed a refund but there is no such refund credited to my account! Now, when I call, no one answers and i can't even get on their website!

Over charged
Posted by Wilbur on 05/23/2007
I bought coffee from this Seattle Direct place and was charged $ 36.95 for one charge plus another charge for $34.95. The original come on was for 2 bags of coffee and a grinder.

One bag of coffee was awful (dry) and the other one (expresso) was delicious.

I will be trying to contact them today when I get home, but am not feeling very confident after reading the other complaints...

Notwithsatnding Instant, how can coffee be 'dry'?
Posted by Dirtydave on 2007-05-23:
You are correct Pomona Guy, they don’t grow coffee in Seattle. But they are indeed coffee fanatics. I lived up there for about four years. It is the only place I know where you can be lost in the forest and still find a coffee stand (Barista).
I have to say I have never heard of this company. But if you want some good coffee from the Northwest go to http://tullys.com/ they put Starbucks to shame.

What ever happened to Folgers,or Maxwell House.Everyone has to have designer coffee's these days.

Posted by Nohandle on 2007-05-23:
LOL number1svc. I had a family member here Christmas and when he saw my Maxwell House drove to the gourmet coffee shop later that day and purchased a bag of whatever speciality blend he enjoyed. I think people who really enjoy coffee do in fact have favorites. I bet if coffee is furnished at their office at no charge, they will drink that good old Maxwell House, Folgers or perhaps even a store brand and keep their opinion to themselves.

Wilbur, I hope you get some resolution when you complain to Seattle Direct Coffee. At least you've got a nice new grinder and can purchase the whole bean coffee that you enjoy at your local specialty shop. Dispute the second charge on your CC. You in fact have been overcharged.

Online ripoff, scam, overcharge, poor quality
Posted by Righty on 02/09/2007
I take all the blame for being stupid and responding to an online survey. The promotional offer was 2 lb of coffee plus a coffee grinder for $9. It sounded like a good deal. Somewhere in the fine print was a $25 membership fee. I was charged $34.00 on Jan 30. I went on line to check my credit card bill and saw this charge plus another on Feb 7. I called immediately to cancel. The coffee is lousy and definitely not worth $17 per lb. I have seen numerous complaints online and they apparently charge for coffee much more often than once every 30 days. I am going to call again and tell them that they are no longer authorized to charge my card and if there is another charge, I am going to file a police report for theft. I am also going to call my credit card and hopefully block any future charges. Apparently these people are crooks. I have a subscription with Gevalia and the coffee and the service is great.

The $25.00 fee isn't hidden, it's right in the details. Also it says that monthly shipments are an estimate. They may be more or less frequent.

But good to know that the coffee isn't tasty!
Posted by Shakra on 2007-02-10:
I agree with Brenda. You're going to have a hard time proving that you were ignorant of the terms of conditions on this one.
Posted by dfields on 2007-02-11:
i agree with Righty... the coffee IS nasty!
Posted by theriac on 2007-02-21:
A correction on the 1 lb. of coffee, it was actually 12 oz. It is also no coincidence that the name they selected for their scam is extremely similar to "Seattle's Best" which is a great company with great coffee. Watch out, I was just charged again a full 4 months after I thought I had put an end to this. I also just rechecked and now realize I was charged twice 4 months ago for 1 shipment.
Posted by jonbutler2006 on 2007-02-26:
My girlfriend was suckered by an ad for a 'free' laptop computer and coffee grinder if she would 'try' Seattle Coffee Direct's Gourmet House Blend (and I use gourmet lightly) and she could cancel at any time. Now she has had to cancel her credit card (the bank said, yes you can cancel, but are still responible for any Seattle Coffee Direct bills to the account in the future. There has to be some fraud law involved here.
Posted by helga on 2007-03-02:
I found this through a survey also, and it was not obvious about the shipping charge like it is on their web site. Also, the shipping charge is supposed to be one time, followed by $9 shipments. I had two more shipments last month for $36.95. Haven't tried the coffee.
