Horrible Rash!
Posted by Rebecca66 on 04/27/2008
NEW YORK -- I have used Secret in the past with no problems although I prefer Lady Speed Stick. I recently purchased Secret Moonlit Rose Solid stick. Had a nice smell and it was on sale. What a mistake! After using the second time I developed an itch under my armpits. I stopped using it and began using the Lady Speed stick. When I ran out I once again used the Secret Deodorant. After using on and off for about a week my armpits developed this painful dry rash. Never in a million years did I think it was the deodorant. As of today (4/28/08) I am unable to use deodorant because it stings and I am in pain. I do not know what they heck they are putting in this product or maybe it is something they are putting in recently. I will never buy there products again.

I will be calling there customer service departmen tomorrow. Do I expect they will admit other consumers have experienced the problem I am having? Unlikely.

I just checked two sticks of deodorant I have on hand: Mitchum and Arrid XX. On both is the same statement: "If rash or irritation develops, discontinue use." I don't doubt that statement is somewhere on the stick of Secret you're using. Don't believe everyone can use all brands that are made. I guess you're one of the unforunates who can't use the brand that caused the itch and rash.

I use Mitchum and have never had the problems you are speaking of. But, I have never used Secret. If you only have it with that particular deodorant, then I would definitely throw it out. And, never use deodorant after shaving--that will definitely cause a rash on most people.

I agree Diane, a rash is common when applying deodorant after shaving the underarms. Maybe there was some ingredient that was irrating to freshly shaven skin

I've used Secret's Moonlit Rose scented deoderant with no problems. Do you have an allergic reaction to all Secret deoderants or just this one? Sorry about your pain.

It caused a rash, and now the Secret is out!

I've always used Lady Speed Stick..but I've noticed an itching an a rash for the last three months or so...never thought it was the Lady Speed Stick, since I've been using it for years...Are you sure it's the Secret and NOT the Lady Speed Stick causing your rash, since you've been changing it back and forth? I wonder if they made a change in it at some point...I'll have to try another brand and see if it helps.

You know this happend to me this last December. Except mine was with the powder fresh scent. My rash was so bad I went to the doctor. After the rash went away (about 3 weeks) I tried using it again. Well the rash came back. I have used this same brand and scent for 3 years or more. I changed to Dove and have not had any problems since.

Sounds like Secret has changed some of its ingredients. Using less expensive or tainted chemicals perhaps?

It was definitely this brand and not Lady Speed Stick. I believed discontinuing the use it would go away on its own, but the rash has spread to my arms and my armpits are pusse. Tomorrow I will go to the doctor which I avoided since I have no health insurance. The irritation literally happened almost overnight. A bit of an itchy feeling after using the 4th time, but in my case it was too late. I discontinued using any deodorant for a couple of days for the irritation to go away and has become progressively worse. I do not recall any warning, but this is extreme and to think it will take 3 weeks to go away as one poster wrote is insane...They should be held accountable and I will be seeking an attorney. This is beyond a minor irritation that has occured with me. Thank you everyone for your feedback.
