HEPHZIBAH, GEORGIA -- I don't know where to start. It is just to many problems with the Sonic on 2505 Tobacco Rd Hephzibah, GA 30815-7091 (706) 796-7654. Let's start out with a worm in my strawberry/cherry limeade oh oh oh and the strings in my Java chiller, no wait how about the old crumbling buns, old hamburgers with holes, and charging extra for ingredients that make the product. How are you going to charge me for hot fudge on a sundae when I order a hot fudge Sunday. Or charging me for java mix that makes the java chiller. I have had enough with this location, my next step is a lawyer, the health department, and News 12 on Your Side. I should have done so a long time ago. By the way, if you know someone that works there that trust you a little bit, it's worth chatting with them, they tend to be very honest on "Why you don't want to eat at that location."

If they are charging like 3 dollars for the sundae, and they are charging 2.50 for the ice cream and .50 cents for the hot fudge, then they are not actually charging extra they are just charging per piece. I would look into the actual final price of the sundae and java chiller and see if that's the case, I don't know I haven't been to a Sonic in a while.

Your having a rough day with fast food places today in Hephzibah it seems. I hope tomorrow's a better day for you.

If I find a food place consistently bad, I stop going there.

yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I am getting more acquainted with my pots and pan. The restaurants in Hephzibah are horrible.

Rude Employees
Posted by LawStudent on 07/18/2010
BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA -- During my last visit at a Sonic Drive-in I encountered very rude customer service. The young man that took my order was yelling into the speaker. He told me they were closed and then he said no we aren't. He asked for my order. Before I proceeded, I asked him to lower his voice and explained tha he was yelling. It was so loud that it hurt my ear. He told me I am not yelling even louder and laughed. I thought this was rather rude. His manager was there and never said a word. Apparently it was the end of his shift because he came outside where he was meet by a co-worker who said that he could hear him all the way by the trash cans in the back of the store. This was the worst customer ezperience ever. The guy was just rude and malicious for no reason. I will never return to this Sonic!!!

You can inform Sonic about this via their website sonicdrivein.com or by calling 1-800-657-6642. Not giving them anymore business works, too.
Posted by madconsumer on 2010-07-18:
i bet the microphone was set up to high. i would trust he wasn't actually yelling.
Posted by Helpful on 2010-07-18:
You seem to be having some difficult problems with local food places Lawstudent. Maybe you should consider just cooking at home.
Posted by Ytropious on 2010-07-18:
I was going to say what mad said. He probably had his mic turned up to 10 or something. Yelling and being broadcast loudly are 2 very separate issues.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-07-19:
I would vote in favor of the microphone being turned up too loud. And in no way would I use the adjective "malicious" to describe his behavior. That is not only a complete misuse of the word, but it tends to discredit your story. Maybe something along the lines of overbearing, booming voice, etc...but malicious?

Bogus special reciept
Bogus special reciept
BRISTOL, VA -- Ordering the. 99 Sundae... the nerve .. I go with my family order 4. 99 Sundaes after asking to confirm they are. 99. The Sundaes are brought to me and am told the charge is $6.00 I asked how that is if 4 X. 99 = $3.96 the reply was well thy are normally $2.19 you still arte getting a deal -- then I asked for a manager who came out and argued with me in front of my family so the ticket reads subtotal = $5.36 and the Tax = $.64 is a Bristol, VA Sonic off Exit #7.. I paid and called the Corp # and was told that they were sorry this happened and for my experience but no attempt to make it right... Don't go here is my suggestion... go get the sundaes else where

Did you have to make an additional purchase to get the 99 cent price such as a sandwich and drink. Just wondering at the discrepancy.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-07-08:
"go get the sundaes else where"

yeah like a real ice cream spot....
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-07-08:
From the website:

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Sonic Drive In will be offering 99 cent Sundaes from 8pm to closing!

The receipt says 9:37 p.m. Other than the time, there are no restrictions. If you asked for the ninety-nine cent sundaes, that's what you should have received and paid for.

Posted by Venice09 on 2010-07-08:
I take it back. That info is not from Sonic's website, but it is listed on many other sites. Maybe that's the problem.
Posted by momsey on 2010-07-08:
It doesn't make sense since the receipt says "sundae .99" right on it, yet you didn't get them for 99 cents.
Posted by yoke on 2010-07-08:
What a rip off. I wonder how many other people they ripped off doing this. It is sad that they would not do the right thing.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-07-08:
That whole receipt doesn't make any sense. It really is a rip-off.

Sonic seems to do this type of thing a lot. I found their food to be bad so I just don't go there.

I bought 2 order's from them about 6 months ago.I was supposed to have got a free tater-tot with each order.when I got home 22 miles away only 1 tater-tot.I have not been back.I did call and was told they would give me a replacement tater-tot if I came back to get it. yea! right 44 miles there and back for a $1.00 item.they can keep their food,I'LL buy elsewhere.
Posted by grandma005 on 2010-07-08:
He received ,99 cents off of each sundae. Was that the deal? Four sundaes at $8.76 minus $3.40 equals $5.36.
Posted by Helpful on 2010-07-08:
I agree with the others. The scan of the receipt is what makes it so clad. Sonic should make it right even though it's such a small amount.

Posted by Anonymous on 2010-07-08:
In this particular case, they are not selling sundaes at $.99-ea, but instead selling them at regular price and discounting each at $.99, which is NOT the correct way to ring the order up. VALID COMPLAINT!
Posted by biomajor on 2010-07-08:
They aren't even discounting it 99 cents...That would be $3.96. I also don't want to live there. That tax rate is HIGH!!!! It's like 12% That is outrageous!
Posted by goduke on 2010-07-08:
That's just wrong. Maybe Virginia uses a different math system thant he rest of us.
Posted by FlShopper on 2010-07-08:
Was the manager able to explain the figures on the receipt? I've read it several time and I still don't understand what they did.
Posted by Slimjim on 2010-07-08:
This creative math may be unique to this location. I think if I had the time and desire in your shoes, I may just send a complaint to the FTC and/or Virginia Attorney General along with this receipt.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-07-08:
wow. that's messed up.
My wife and I have been to our local Sonic 3 times for the $.99 sundae after 8 and each time it's been $.99 plus tax for each one.
Personally, I would have just not taken the food and left.
Posted by oldisgood on 2010-07-09:
On the receipt it states 4 @ 99 is -$3.40. According to my math that is only 85 cents each off the price. Also the promo says 99cents each NOT 99 cents off. Nothing on the bill makes sense. I would have refused to pay and if I didn't get the sundaes for the correct price of $3.96 plus tax, I would have left. I wonder how many people don't even notice charges like this. I watch the bills all the time but my husband just pays what anyone says and doesn't even think about it. I guess the public is to blame for being complacent.

Also, according to my calculations here, they are REALLY short changing you! I'm going to have my grandson go elsewhere from now on. Screw SONIC!!!

The Sonic Drive-in in Bethany, Oklahoma (off Rt. 66) charges me for two orders every time I go through their drive through. This is the third time this has happened to me here -- I won't be going back to that one. The charges are not duplicates -- they have different unique numbers on my bank statement. They are charging me for my order and for another order.

If you are handing your card to someone, watch your bank statement. I guess you just never know....

Try using cash at fast food restaurants. There is absolutely no way you can be charged for two orders using this method.
Posted by Anonymous on 2010-04-20:
mamacitaokc, do make sure you report this location at once. unfortunately there are shady employees in many lines of business. if they are doing this to you, they are most certainly doing it to others as well. thanks for posting for all from this area of oklahoma to avoid.
Posted by PepperElf on 2010-04-20:
i'd suggest contacting both your credit card company
and the local police to inform them of this.

though unique numbers on your bank statement?
as in different amounts being charged or different codes being used?

cos if the price is the same it could indeed be a double-charge still.
the best way to find out is to ask your bank if having a duplicate order put though will give a separate number (authorization code?) to your statement.

and again report this to the police and your ccard company
Posted by Ytropious on 2010-04-20:
Duplicates can be sent under 2 different order or ID numbers, duplicates rarely have an exact ID since anything sent twice is usually auto assigned some new number. I wouldn't put it past being a simple system glitch that they really need to sort out, I doubt someone is trying to rip you off.

During the cold months of last year I very much enjoyed the Hot Lattes that were offered for sale. I can understand taking them off the menu during the summer months but it would be great to have them back now that the weather has turned cooler. I am a frequent customer and would like for my voice to be heard!

No delivery in 25 minutes
Posted by No delivery in Minnesota on 08/24/2009
BLOOMINGTON, MINNESOTA -- I pulled into the new Sonic in Bloomington, MN, I pushed the red button and no one came on for 5 minutes. I pushed the button again and ordered a hot fudge sundae and a chiller. After 20 minutes and no delivery, I pushed the button again and asked if there was a problem - no answer or reply. I waited another 10 minutes and left after seeing 4 other cars leave with no food. This is the worst fast food chain I have ever seen and will never return to any Sonic again. I will be calling the parent company today to also let them know about the poor customer service.

Being that they are new maybe they were just having some internal problems. I wouldn't discount the entire chain over one bad experience. I would give them a little while and try again.
Posted by thensider on 2009-08-24:
You pushed the button and spoke before a response was given? They cannot hear you until they answer you, just so you know. Was it busy? You are aware that there are only 3 Sonics in the entire state and that they are ALL new, right? You never know what is going on inside the store, perhaps there was a major problem. I would have given the Sonic a chance to make things right before discounting the entire chain.
Posted by laklisa on 2009-08-24:
Personally I don't like the Sonics in my area...their food is too greasy. They don't always cook the fries all the way either. One time I got their tots and when I got to the bottom of the holder, there was a puddle of oil. Yuck. However I do love the Sonic blast!

These Sonic stores here dont have any complaints yet, as far as I know. They seem to be holding up to the intense volume pretty well. The one this poster is talking about made over a $1 million in the first month, which is more than the store I work for makes in a year! (I do NOT work for Sonic, rather a similar chain)

Jumper Cables
Posted by Kaman25 on 05/23/2009
While I do understand that Sonic Drive-In restaurants are not garages they do deal with people in cars, cars sometimes don't start and they should have someone there who can help and not just ignore or be rude to a stranded motorist. Especially a CUSTOMER! Keeping a pair of jumper cables and hiring at least one adult isn't too much to ask is it?

I guess your battery died there?
While it would be a great customer service gesture, like in yesteryear, liability created by decades of BS lawsuits have made it impossible for an employee to tinker with a customer's automobile. At least, that is my uneducated guess. :)
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-05-23:
It's not their responsibility to carry jumper cables. I agree with C2O (wow, did I just say that?) that it could create a lawsuit if they messed with your car.

Posted by MRM on 2009-05-23:
If you have have a dead battery and you dont have a portable jump starter and you're afraid to ask somebody to jump start your car, try this: using an adjustable wrench, disconnect negative battery cable, wait 15 minutes to let battery recharge itself, reconnect negative cable to battery. Viola! Your car will start again. It works every time!
Posted by MRM on 2009-05-23:
As you are reconnecting the negative battery cable, you will see/hear a spark which is a good sign that the battery is charged up and your car will start right up.
Posted by Nohandle on 2009-05-23:
Kaman25, Perhaps you might consider keeping a set of jumper cables in the trunk of your car. I have for years. Even when I traded cars, I tossed my old set into the new car. I've never had to use them personally but have loaned out numerous times to others. No business should be expected to have someone jump start your car.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-05-23:
Nohandle, you will be happy you carry those cables in the event you are ever bitten by a poisonous snake. Shocking the wound with DC current breaks down the toxin.
Just thought you should know that. :)
Posted by Nohandle on 2009-05-23:
C2O, I wouldn't know what to go with a set of jumper cables if I had them in my hand. That's what men are for. By the way MRM, what's an adjustable wrench?
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2009-05-23:
Good info, Mr. Mike!
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2009-05-23:
Yeah, that is a bit too much to ask. You're the driver and it's your responsiblity to carry jumper cables in your car...not a restruant...you can't really be serious about this.

Come on, is that you Michelle????

btw, an adjustable wrench is a wrench that adjusts.

OK JC... on the surface of the orb, or juggling joy toy, is an object that slightly resembles a bee sting. Soon after said obstacles have been removed - I don't know how it works in your house - but I like to apply moisture and slight pressure to that area, treating it similar to a bee sting.

Tip if you eat out...
Posted by Tippy Toes on 05/19/2009
DALLAS, TEXAS -- Mimi C. Says: Your comment is awaiting moderation.

Greed abounds. The federal government says that “tipped” employees (even if it isn’t done by many of you very often) do not have to be paid minimum wage. Here in Texas, most Sonics pay 3.13 to carhops. And most of you think that Sonic employees don’t deserve to be tipped? You wonder why you get bad service? Try tipping. You see, McDonald’s, Hardee’s, etc. don’t have a tradition of tipping, and consequently, they DO receive the hardly adequate minimum wage. The employer takes advantage of the law, and though they know that Sonic canceled credit card tips on their new machines, they take advantage of the car hop and lower the wage, knowing many days they don’t make this minimum wage. We believe that Sonic canceled the credit card option to prevent theft, which does occur EVERYWHERE….but the solution is not to cancel the credit card tip option. You prosecute the thief. People steal everywhere. What if a clothing store shut down because they wanted to control theft. Stupid, huh? Sonic needs to bring back credit card tips, which would improve service, believe me. What kind of employees are going to stay working at Sonic for 3.13 an hour (that’s all most servers in restaurants get also). It is hot outside, and with everyone running their vehicles incessantly (why?) you can’t believe the heat. Sonic is quite a bit more difficult than you would think, that is if you do it right. Ever tried skating serving food? The other aspect to good service is a good manager. Carhops don’t have control over a poorly run store, where the manager under-hires to put more money in his pocket. You love Sonic? I do too, and was one of their top employees, but won’t go back unless they change the credit card status. I’m one of the best (been tipped 100. dollar bills, believe it or not) but now am only worth 3.13? Customers, stop taking advantage of this credit card situation, and TIP, in cash or don’t eat there. Call the company to re-engage the credit card situation to get back all of us good employees (years of experience). Your phone calls will work, eventually, and then, you will get great service at many Sonics again. Until then, stay away. Nobody wants to do their best if they are only getting this little amount. Remember, you don’t have to tip if the service is not adequate. Running in and outside is very different from working in air conditioning. Sometimes, it is almost unbearable.

ummmm did we C&P this from another website? Who is Mimi C?
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-05-19:
Interesting review. Based on what you wrote, it seems you need to direct your concerns solely to Sonic itself. If they took the tip option away from cc/debit purchases to control fraud, my question would be who was comitting the fraud? Employees?

Sounds like Sonic needs to find a better solution, continuing to pay less then min wage, but removing the tip option from cc/debit transactions may get them in some hot water if employees were to pursue this further. You get screwed on tips and they can continue to pay you crap wages.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-05-19:
It's Sonic policy that carhops are to be paid at least the prevailing state/federal minimum wage. If you know of a Sonic that is not adhering to this policy report them to corporate.

Sonic, America Drive In!
Posted by goduke on 2009-05-19:
When I lived down in Tejas, tipping at Sonic was one of those weird things. How much to you actually tip the person who brings you a bag a of food? They don't take the order...the person through the speaker does. They don't clean up, they've given you a bag of food and you either take it home in the car, or you get out of your car and throw it away yourself. Basically, it's saying I should also tip the person at the fast food counter who puts the food on a tray.

Sorry that Sonic uses the tip thing to pay low wages. Here's an idea...work someplace else.

Still...I do miss sonic burgers and frito chili pie. And cherry limeades.
Posted by Slimjim on 2009-05-19:
I have to agree with JBC. It sounds like Sonic is aware and somewhat responsible in the fact that their carhops aren't tipped well, yet continue to avoid raising their earnings to balance the situation. From an outsider, my reaction is if the job isn't paying enough, quit it. If the carhops did this across the board, then the consideration would have to be looked at by management. If on the other hand, no one seems to leave those positions when the day is done, I would guess the hourly/tip combination isn't really as bad as you are making it out.

I really don't see the problem here. People are going to tip, or not tip, no matter the method provided. Look on the bright side. If the tips are in cash, no way the IRS can trace it.

That song always sounded to me like the singer had been huffing helium.
Posted by DebtorBasher on 2009-05-19:
My Brother still complains whenever that song comes on.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-05-19:
LOL. yeah think she was a one-hit wonder, Melanie or something like that. Song stuck with me for days every time it was played, still does now. cheesy, but cathcy.

Ok first of all... I have no clue what government you're under but tipped employees do have to make minimum wage...you should receive a periodic check that pays you the difference if you are not making minimum...if you aren't receiving that check then I suggest you get proactive and either talk to someone about it higher up,like way higher up, or get a new job, because putting a complaint on here isn't going to get you minimum wage.

Customer Service

I went to the Sonic on Seguin St. in New Braunfels Texas to order a junior burger. They served me an ICE CREAM CONE!! When I called to the manager he apologized but did NOTHING to rectify the situation, only saying that he heard about the error.

Did you get your burger? How would they rectify the situation to your satisfaction?
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
Just curious - did you park and order, use the drive-thru, or walk up to the window?

Why do so many people expect something when a mistake is made? While it's often a nice gesture on the part of management, it seems to be expected any more. How about a simple apology; would that suffice?
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
When a mistake is made, people want a free meal, an apology, and a parade thrown in their honor
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
That's what I think about the banks who charge $39 when somebody mistakenly overdraws their account by a nickel. Couldn't a simple apology suffice? Today it seems like so many businesses want to fine the customer when a mistake is made. The sense of entitlement these businesses have.

All that good German food down there... I'd never go to Sonic.

Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
Yes it is little.

always wanted to go there. Was suppossed to go last time I was in TX but a damn tornado kept us from travelling that day
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
I remember an F5 near Austin that pretty well wiped out Jarrell about 10 yrs ago. Not the worst part of TX for tornadoes, but they do get them.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
The Austin area is beautiful. If it wasn't for the weather, I'd consider living there
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
Austin is the center of the known universe. lol. Kerrville or Bandera is the place for me. You can't beat the Texas hill country.
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
Nope, not to mention the hot guys I've seen in TX
Posted by Anonymous on 2009-04-22:
I'll have to admit that I haven't noticed them. lol!

Grown up sexy Texas babes... oh yeah. Plenty of those.
