PA/NJ, NEW JERSEY -- Replaced all our kitchen appliances and washer dryer, Spirit did damage to the back splash, the microwave installed incorrectly and held up by one screw. Never leveled the gas range. Told me the opening for the fridge was only 35 1/2 inches. Funny how the 36" fridge fits just fine. Borrowed our tools and step ladder, left wood shavings all over.


When we called to complain they were extremely rude, never followed up and now dealing with insurance companies.

We refused to sign off on the installation and wanted to write comments on the document. The installer refused to let us do so. We had to call the police to extract him from our home.

Do not let this company in your home

Spirit is lacking & Home Depot Dragging Feet on Refund

CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA -- We special ordered a refrigerator from Home Depot through its website. Spirit Delivery is apparently their national third party contractor for appliance deliveries. Delivery was scheduled for the following Saturday. Spirit would not give us a time until the evening before, and even then would confirm only a four hour window. Follow up call was received Saturday morning from Spirit indicating that drivers were 30 minutes out. Some 45 minutes later and there's still no refrigerator.

Then we receive a phone call from the Spirit Delivery dispatcher. Truck driver is parked at the end of our driveway and is unwilling to drive down our driveway because the driveway is long and he can see snow on the driveway. None of this should be shocking to Spirit's people because it, in fact, was snowing lightly on the date of the scheduled delivery. Further, we live in the Northeast where there has been an unusual amount of snowfall this year, so the ground on either side of the driveway has 7-8 inches of standing snow on it.

That said, our driveway is level and paved. It has been plowed since the last significant snow. My wife and I have been driving up and down the driveway for the last several days without incident. Moreover, I have used ice melt in the section of the driveway near our home so that area is largely free from ice. All of this is relayed through the dispatcher to Spirit's delivery driver. Still they refuse to drive down our driveway.

Although Spirit offered to reschedule delivery, they would not tell us when. Presumably, we are supposed to wait for the Spring thaw when I'm sure the excuse preventing delivery will be that there are grass clippings or something on the driveway.

Net result: we have canceled our order with Home Depot. We will NEVER order another appliance from Home Depot that requires delivery for so long as they are using Spirit as their contractor for deliveries. Spirit has wasted our time and my family must go another week without a refrigerator.

Further, Home Depot is making the process of canceling the order and getting a refund unnecessarily tedious and drawn out. Home Depot claims that they cannot process a refund until the refrigerator is returned by the delivery vendor to the warehouse. Even then, the refund won't be processed automatically. Home Depot is placing the onus on us to call them and confirm whether the fridge has made back to the warehouse. Thereafter, we must coordinate a refund with the local store even though the order came through Home Depot's website.

Horrible experience. Steer far clear of Spirit. Think twice before purchasing a major appliance from Home Depot if you require that it be delivered. I suggest before purchasing any appliance for which delivery is required that you inquire after the identity of the third party delivery contractor and go elsewhere if they are using Spirit.

I can't say I blame you for being upset over the delivery of your fridge. I'd think if they were to do that very much, however, no one would get their appliance(s) delivered.

I'd go somewhere else but I find it much more successful to work with people in the store. Maybe you can explain the previous issue and make sure 'their' delivery team doesn't have the same experience. Thankfully there are appliance places that will get you a fridge the same day you buy.

None of what you wrote surprises me. It makes sense that they need the item back from the delivery vendor (not every place is as nice as Amazon.com), and a lot of freight companies won't even go into a driveway. As far as delivery windows and schedules, that makes sense as well. Overall, I don't believe they did anything really wrong.

Poorest Representative of a Delivery Company

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA -- I purchased a refrigerator from Home Depot on 6/9/13, they scheduled delivery for Friday. Delivery company called and said it would be delivered between 4-8 PM. On Friday afternoon driver called said he was running late, they would deliver by 9PM. 9 Pm still no delivery!! Called the number for their Customer Service, she checked with the driver he said he would be at my home in 20 mins.

Well here it is Saturday morning, still no refrigerator and now they are telling me it will be TUESDAY! They are the worst representative ever for Home Depot!! GE Logistics should be ashamed to have contracted with these idiots!!!

Oh, Susanna! Won't You Try For Me?

NEW PROVIDENCE, NEW JERSEY -- We bought our LG dishwasher at Home Depot and they use Spirit Delivery to deliver and install their appliances. One of the selling points was that Home Depot offered free delivery and installation. It turns out that you get what you pay for. The installation crew arrived at our house on Monday morning and within minutes they said that they could not install the dishwasher because they could not turn our shut off valve. It had some hard water build-up and they said it was not operational and we would have to have it repaired by a plumber. We had a plumber there within hours and he said there was nothing wrong with the shut-off valve. In fact, he was able to easily turn it by hand.

I called Spirit Delivery and was told that the soonest they could re-schedule was in several days, which would have caused us to miss the Energy Star Rebate (which was another selling point and the reason we bought the dishwasher now instead of later).

My wife and I both talked to Susanna, who said she was the supervisor but she was not authorized to give out her last name. She sounded like she was about 21 years old and would have rather been updating her FaceBook status than talking to us. She also was rude and interrupted me several times. She did not seem to care about helping us with our situation at all. I had to ask her repeatedly for her supervisor’s name and finally got it. I will not share his last name here but if you have trouble with her, just ask for David. It was very difficult to get any information from her. She said there was no one above her but when I asked if she owned the company she, of course, said “No”.

She really has no business taking calls at all, much less supervising others. Zack, on the other hand, was very polite and seemed like he wanted to help but there was not much he could do for me.

Despite Susanna’s insistence that we could not get a delivery date sooner than Thursday, we got out machine installed later that night by emailing Spirit Delivery from their website and calling several people at Home Depot and the local warehouse.

The dishwasher is now installed but it is crooked and not flush with the cabinets or countertop. We will have to uninstall it this weekend and do it ourselves.

We should not have had to work so hard for our “free” delivery and we will think twice about purchasing appliances at any retailer that used Spirit.

Here is an update:

Despite Susannah’s best efforts, we were able to get our dishwasher installed later the same evening after she repeatedly told us that there was no way it could happen before Thursday.

Unfortunately, the thing was installed incorrectly. The geniuses they sent out did not level the dishwasher and front was crooked. We called the local warehouse (which is the only way to deal with this nasty company) and sent pictures of the shoddy installation job to them and Home Depot and they sent another team to correct the installation that the first team botched so badly. (Remember, the first team were the ones who did not know how to work a standard water shut-off valve)

After the second installation (which was the third time Spirit employees visited our home) the thing was still not quote right. When you shut the door, one of the mounting screws pushes one of the buttons so no matter which cycle you choose, you get something else. I opened the door and tightened the screw so it does not push the button anymore but the button itself is scraped and looks ugly. Luckily for us, it is not visible when the door is shut but we will always have a constant reminder of the kind of morons this company employs. From the people who answer the phones right on down to the guy who carries off the old dishwasher, there are not more than about 83 IQ points combined and not an ounce of customer service skills.

Here's an update:

The second installation team came out and leveled the thing but then one of th ebuttons was being scraped by one of the mounting screws under the counter top. This has messed up the button as well as cause dthe dishwasher setting to change whenever the door is closed.

Also, there are bits of food on the dishes after they are washed. Sometimes they are dirtier after the wash cycle than they were when we put them in the thing.

The guy from LG is at our house now and he says the hose going to the garbage disposal was installed incorrectly, allowing food waste to back up into the dishwasher. This was explained in the installation instructions but nobody from Spirit seemed to have read them. In their three trips to our house they still have not installed this appliance correclty.

We have had 3 visits from Spirit, one from a local plumber (who told us nothing was wrong with our shut-off valve) and now one from LG.

Now we have to get in touch with Home Depot and Spirit Delivery yet again to have them correct the installation.

If you have a choice, opt out of the "free" delivery and installation. You would be better off paying a professional to do it. I don;t know how Spirit can stay in business with their incompetent installation and lack of customer service.

How many people does it take to screw a Home Depot customer? As the owl in the Tootsie Pop commercial used to say, "Thw world may never know..."

Update: Home Depot agreed to send someone from a different installation company out to install the thing correctly. they have also agreed ot refund us the money we paid for the plumber to come out and tell us that there was no problem with the shut-off valve.

So we got a call this mornign saying that someone was coming out to install it correclty and some guys came by with GE badges on their uniforms and told us that there is nothing wrong with the installation (depsite the fact that the installation manual clearly shows that the hose form the garbage disposal is supposed to be angle so that waste form the disposla does not back up into the dishwasher. The paperwork they left with us says "Spirit Delivery" on it. So now they are posing as GE employees while telling us there is no problem with their shoddy installation.

Spirit has now been at our house 4 times, LG once, and a local plumber once but the dishwasher is STILL not installed correctly and we can't use our garbage disposal until they fix the installation!

The fact that they actually impersonated GE employess is beyond belief!

What kind of dishonest comapny are we dealing with? We are now going to ask home Depot to completely refund our money and bring our old dishwasher (or an equivalant) back.

Another update. It's still not right. We give up. Please do yourself a favor and never allow Spirit Delivery into your home. You will regret it.

Terrible Customer Service and Delivery

After having to go through Home Depot and LG 3 times to have my washer and dryer delivered (there were major dents in each delivery I received) and on the last delivery my dryer was dented all the way down one side. The delivering crew were very rough with my appliances. At this point I was very mad and called LG'S manager and by the time I got on the phone with the manager the two delivery men said that they're manager said they had to leave and couldn't install my washer. I had ordered hoses with the washer and dryer and both delivery guys said they didn't have any hoses with them even though I had ordered them. I am very pissed off with this company and do not want them ever to deliver anything at my house ever again. I seriously feel like this company should be shut down...

Bad Delivery Service Spirit Delivery

FRANKLIN, MASSACHUSETTS -- I ordered a clothes dryer with installation and removal of my old dryer. Spirit delivery services showed up on time and refused to install the steam hose on the dryer, at first they told me I didn't order the parts. I told them I did and they then gave me the hoses, but refused to install them as they had a policy not to disconnect the existing hose from the washing machine. I offered to disconnect the hose, but wanted to make sure the steam function worked. The delivery person became rude, told me that I had to sign a waiver of installation or he would take the dryer back, as I was talking to Home Depot customer service, delivery person refused to talk to them and began pulling dryer back. It got so contentious I almost called the police, as I had already paid for the dryer. I signed the waiver under duress!

Rude unprofessional and will never allow them near my house again! They told me that they had 20 more deliveries and were not spending any more time at my house and forced me to sign the waiver. They were out of providence RI.

Worst Company Ever

NEW PROVIDENCE, NEW JERSEY -- Delivery service people showed up on Friday 3/15/13 to install a gas dryer in my house. One of the delivery people assured me he knew what he was doing and proceeded to [break] the valve on the gas line. Not only did he [break] it but he left saying he checked for gas leaks an there was none. Gas company had to come out an shut off gas . It is now a week later and I have no dryer and am still trying to get these people to fix what they broke. All at this company are incompetent. All they do is give you the runaround. Home depot is crazy for having this company deliver any of their products.

I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me. One of their drivers/"installers" from their Bensalem location broker my gas pipe. I had to hire a plumber to fix the damage that he caused. He failed to observe that the flexi-pipe in the Home Depot kit was too short and tried to force the gas pipe to stretch to reconnect it. These folks are absolutely incompetent. My efforts to resolve my claim have been, up to this point, nothing but frustrating. I expect I will be taking them and Home Depot to Small Claims Court.

BRYN MAWR, PENNSYLVANIA -- Spirit Delivery Service is without a doubt one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. The company refused to guarantee a time frame of delivery and when informed that my employment required that I must specify a time, I was advised by the company to "take the day off to wait for the refrigerator." This was impossible to do and I was told that it was the policy and nothing could be done about it.

Moreover, on the day of the delivery, they arrived 70 minutes before the time expected and would not return during the time frame confirmed. To date, this issue remains unresolved and it has been several weeks and numerous unproductive phone communications to attempt to resolve this issue. Home Deport has been a good place to do business but this delivery service is exceptionally rude and unresponsive to the needs of working customers and to those living within the constraints of condo association rules and regulations.

This experience has been completely unacceptable and in the future, I will not buy appliances from any company that uses this company for their delivery services.

You should always buy your appliances from local stores that install,and service what they sell.

When I was in that part of the biz(sales and installations),we would give a four hour window.For customers that could not have that sort of time frame,we would make an exception and work with the customer.

I think these type of sub-contractors give the real appliance specialists a bad name.

Really bad customer service

GEORGIA -- I recently purchased an oven from Home Depot and was told that the delivery of our item would be delivered by another company. I received the item in great time and was very satisfied at the efficiency and level of courtesy with the original delivery guys. My oven, however did not fit and would eventually have to be returned to Home Depot. So, I contacted Home Depot and they set up the pickup with the same company, Spirit delivery, to come back out to pick up the item to be returned to Home Depot. I received a phone call on a Friday stating they would be at my home on Saturday between 9:15 and 1:15.

So, Saturday morning at 10:00 am, I receive a call from the delivery guy stating that they are 1/2 hour away. Then, he calls back to ask "where do we stay?" I tell him and he says, "Oh, I just needed to program that into my GPS." No problem, I'm thinking that everything is still on schedule. So, we hang up and then I receive a 3rd phone call within the same 10minute period from the driver. "I was looking over my paperwork and it seems that my manager gave me some wrong information or the orders were mixed up," he explains. He goes on to state that they will not get to our area until the hours between 3pm and 7pm. Wow!!!

The whole day is wasted on waiting for an oven to get picked up that we can't and never have used. So, I immediately call the delivery distribution center that's open on weekends. I'm told by two individuals that they don't have any information regarding my pickup. Great!!! So, no one knows what happened or who dropped the ball. I'm beginning to get angry because now the tone is growing hostile and unprofessional toward me as if I have committed a crime against this company. The last person whom I spoke with was so blatantly disrespectful and unprofessional that she placed the blame entirely on me.

As a result, I will never do business with this company any more and hopefully you will not have to tolerate this kind of offensively rude customer service from a business that supposedly prides itself in their "white glove service." As a consumer, I was totally unimpressed with their ability to simply listen which made their mark on me on the opposite end of stellar.

Nasty Company To Deal With

PENNSYLVANIA -- I purchased an appliance from Home Depot 2 weeks ago and was told that it had to be special ordered. I advised them that I needed a delivery on Saturday. A delivery was scheduled from 9-12pm on Saturday. I had other engagements scheduled for that morning so I contacted the delivery service (Spirit Delivery from NJ) and asked for a weekday evening delivery. I was told that a delivery request would be put in for after 3 pm on Wed. I received a phone call the day before stating that they would deliver 7am in the morning which was not possible because no one would be home. I got angry because I had already made arrangements for evening--spoke to a manager that seemed to care less and stated that I would have to reschedule. I told them that I would be going back to Home Depot to get my money back. I called HD and spoke with a manager that did not care either. After cooling off, I called back to reschedule. The person on the phone did not mute the call and stated " It's so and so Douglas, the one that was acting like a B." Upon hearing this I asked repeated what he said and the employee hung up the phone on me.

BAD SERVICE, BAD ATTITUDES AND NOT FLEXIBLE TO WORK WITH CLIENTS. Due to this situation I will no longer spend my money in Home Depot.

I agree with BBast, I used to work for that company but not with Home Depot, so if you stop buying from Home Depot just because of Spirit, then you might want to stay away from Best Buy. However, I don't blame them, They work on their schedule, Not yours, and a driver's route is made up by zip codes, so unless you live close to their warehouse then your out of luck. Some of these drivers go out near 150 miles away from their warehouse, if you're still that far out by 3pm... that poor driver isn't getting home for a long time, especially with the rush hour traffic.

I have also had problems with Spirit Delivery and I will not be shopping at any store who uses them. They are terrible to deal with and unprofessional. The movers chipped paint on two doorways in my home, scratched the hardwood floors (three 15 inch scratches) and put 2 dents in my refrigerator. They left packaging garbage in my yard (my appliance was a floor model, so the packaging from other appliances fell off their truck) and they just left in in my driveway. One of the delivery people cut their finger during the move and proceeded to leave blood on my door and floors. The manager who came to assess the damage told me I might get 100 for the damage, but that does will not cover all the damage, let alone me missing 2 days of work.

I had same situation. I was expecting a Thurday delivery and they called and said time was 10:30 - 1:30. I called to reschedule because my husband would not be there until after 11:30. We were set for Saturday when someone (no one knows who) rescheduled us for the following Wednesday. I wasted half a day on Saturday before I called and asked what was up with the delivery. The lady was rude and made me hold several times before telling me that she had no clue what happened and best they could do is deliver on Wednesday. I went to the store and they were great. Lisa in the appliances called and got me a delivery time that worked for me. Today Spirit called back and again said tough, we will deliver when we want or or you can reschedule. I will never make a delivery purchase from Home Depot again.

The company is in business to make money and provide jobs not to be at your beckon call. This is the problem when you go to the store the tell you that there will be a time window. The tell you that you will need to have someone there to accept the delivery. If you are argent enough to expect the world to cater to you then maybe the person who answered the phone was correct. YOU ARE A B____H. Please keep shopping at Home Depot because my company is not a delivery agent for them and I will not have to deal with a self centered individual.

If you find yourself having to deal with their shenanigans I feel sorry for you.

Spirit Delivery is the absolute worst. I would rather pay for delivery than deal with them again. I purchased a fridge from Home Depot, the delivery was a disaster. They damaged the fridge and I didn't see it till they left because it was raining and I couldn't see the scratch until I wiped off the entire refrigerater. Of course they had left already and when I complained to both Home depot and LG. I am still in the process of dealing with this. I will NEVER buy from Home Depot again if they still use Spirit Delivery.

I also wish I had known Home Depot used Spirit for deliveries when I purchased my dryer. 2 delivery attempts failed because the did not bring the correct power cord the 1st time and the second time they did not bring the correct vents. NEVERY WILL I PURCHASE AN APPLIANCE FROM A COMPANY THAT USES Spirit! AGAIN!!! still don't have my dryer...grrrr

I will never buy another appliance from anyone who uses Spirit for deliveries. They call it free service from Home Depot but it is not. They are not flexible at all with their delivery times, my wife had to take a day off from work (no pay) to receive our 2nd washer. We were without a washing machine for almost 2 full weeks because the first one banged and wined and leaked water all over my basement floor. They wanted me to wait for a service tech to look at a brand new washer that had only been in my home for 1 hour. I had to put this washer on my own truck and bring it back to the Home Depot where I purchased it. The Home Depot truck was not available. In all fairness when I went back to the Home Depot they were very serious about making me happy. They gave me a more expensive washer for the same price as my first purchase, also through in new braided hoses. The one thing I did not like is that they insisted I use the free service from Spirit. As I said above, not free but they put it through a wash cycle and call that a service. When I got home from work and checked it out I found a washer out of level, the ground cable wire that was there, not hooked up, the water line supply hoses twisted up in the back from thightening them without holding back and the drain hose just laying in my sink not secure. This is called delivery and installation service. My point is I have bought and put in so many of my appliances over the years. I would go to the store, buy it take it home and install. I am very very very handy. You can't do it like this anymore at places that have this service because if there is a problem with a new appliance from the start they ask you why you did not use our free, not so free service and that you must have done something wrong when you hooked up or turned it on. This is a rotten way to do business and I will never be a part of it again. These are just delivery guys, no training or skill to be in my home hooking anything up. I will go some place else, even if I pay a little more in the beginning because I paid more money, inconvienence and aggravation in the end.
