New Symantec "Scam"

Symantec has started issuing a Debit Card instead of a check for its rebates. Aside from the need to treat it as a Charge Card, even when it says "Debit", the outrageous useage fees if it is not used immediately ($3 a month after 6 mo.), and the uselessness at gas pumps etc, there is a real catch: If the item you want to purchase is of MORE value than the balance available on the card, it will be refused IN TOTAL! You can't make it part of the payment! So, you may never be able to get the full value of the card unless you can convince a merchant to ring up an exact balance on the card a the charge amount. Neat trick, huh! Oh, they say it was due to customer demand for this type of payment. Sounds like petty fraud to me!

Last year I purchased TurboTax from Staples, as I do every year. And as every year, there was a rebate, which I filed. What I got back was a debit card, good only at Staples... and here's the real kick in teh behind... good only for SELECT Intuit products.

I never pursued this, and it was not a lot of money, but I'll never buy TurboTax again, and it's just as easy for me to shop at Office Max.

This is a stupid business decision.

I'd very much like to hear from anyone who has experienced problems with Symantec rebates, not just the debit card problem.

Such as whether you were told you did not send the required proof of purchase (when you did), and if so, whether you eventually got your rebate of just gave up and lost it.

It's time we put a stop to this stuff!

The debit card thing is a scam, mainly because you are not forwarned that this is the practice. Since the card doesn't come with a pin number, you can only get the full value out of it if you make a purchase for the exact amount of the card (and what are the chances of that?. Otherwise, they get to keep the unsused portion.

I just received this crazy card. After seeing the rediculous fees, the fact that you had to spend not over $30 on the card or it would be rejeted, etc., I called Symantec and requested a refund check instead.

They tried explaining the fees, and it took me several times asking for a check before they finally agreed to send one. Of course it will be ANOTHER 4-6 weeks before it arrives! I am hoping it will be for the full $30 and not for $21 ($9 card cancellation fee). If it for anything less than $30 you will see an additional post from me.

I had previously sent an email to Symantec requesting the check instead, and received only a canned response saying that my debit card would be sent to me.

I agree with Joe and Mel, this is a scam because we were not forewarned and/or given a choice of check or card. A simple check box on the rebate form would work - give US, the customers, a choice in how we receive our refund. I received my card in a very timely manner, but was NOT happy with it because I've had experience with these cards before - it is a real pain to use them without losing at least a few cents of what you are entitled to. I sent an email to Symantec, but never got so much as a canned response. I don't plan to buy any more Symantec products, with or without rebates, unless I find that they have been responsive to their customers and changed their policy on this. Shame on you, Symantec.

I used to think that Symantec was a good company and I bought their products for several years. But after two recent experiences with their null customer service and their fraudulent maneuver under the guise of a rebate, they have just lost four customers. Plus as many others as I can warn.

Remember IOMEGA? They tried this fraudulent crap too and what did it get them?

Symantec Sucks, and there are better competitors with comparable products. Avoid Symantec products and make your voices be heard!

Oh, wonderful! This is what I have to look forward to when I get mine????

I think that Norton 2007 will be the LAST Symantec product that I buy! Not only are the parental controls on it a MAJOR stepback from 2006 (it does not support multiple user accounts like 2006 did), I find it no where near as user friendly as 2006 was! It also seems to slooooowwwwww down my computer considerably. I deeply regret upgrading to 2007. :(

lovespurple you should call them like I did and request a check. They are reluctant to do so, but if you keep pressing, they will do so. When I first called, they said to destroy the card as it would be deactivated. I held onto it just in case Ididn't get a check. I just received my check replacement last week, a full two months after I complained. The check was for the entire $30 rebate amount. It was however confusing as nowhere on the check or the envelope could you determine that it was from Symantec. Even though an apparent third party issued the check, it should have at least indicated "Norton Rebate" or something similar.

Here is how I used my Symentec debit card- $50 value.
I shopped using it as a credit card in walmart and for few online purchases. The last amount was $8.03. I went to amazon and purchased a gift card of $8.03.
I verified my account at https://www.myecount.com/.
It had exactly zero balance. I hope, I would not be charged with any maintenance fee in future.

As per Terms and conditions:
"*Account Maintenance Fee: Subject to applicable law, a fee will be applied to Inactive** accounts after the 6 month anniversary date. The charge will be recurring each month unless the account becomes active or the balance of the account is $0.00."

After being scammed by Norton six times on rebates (don't ask me why I keep falling for them), I would be thrilled to receive a rebate from them in any form. They clearly have no intention of honoring rebate claims. Today I received yet another rebate rejection card from them and they didn't even bother to say what was missing from my submission. The time before the rebate was on a product I downloaded and they didn't honor it either, saying they wouldn't honor it because I didn't submit the UPC cutout from the box. It's clearly all a fraud and this time I'll make the effort to contact our State Consumer Fraud unit and Costco, Best Buy and Office Max where I've purchased Symantec products with fraudulent rebate offers. Wish everyone would and maybe Symantec would clean up their act. They ought to be ashamed of themselves for treating their customers this way. They're making McAfee look better all the time!

Agree...these "rebate cards" are a nuisance. I have to keep track of how much is left on the card. Prefer to get a check - much easier! But everything Symantec does - from their lousy product to their lousy customer service doesn't surprise me. I'll be switching to McAffee when my subscription expires.

AS to fraud, there is a case in the California courts against Cingular regarding these cards and fraudulent claims as to the "rebate". Also, in California, gift cards cannot expire, so these rebate/debit cards are one way of getting around that law.

I received one of these cards - it took them so long to send it that they started deducting the "account maintenance fee" almost immediately. I've also found it's difficult to use and of the original $20 amount, they've deducted $15 in fees.

AS to the antivirus package that the rebate was to cover, I had to uninstall it after 4 months because it caused too many problems and they tried to charged me to fix the problems in their package.

Computers Crash

Norton Utilities 15 was installed on two different computers to give them a tune up. Before running the program, both systems functioned properly. After running Utilities, both computers crashed - fragmenting Windows. The data on one computer is now unrecoverable. Besides useless telephone assistance from India, Norton will offer no other support or help to remedy the situation.

Perturbed Patron, this all sounds about right for Norton products. Norton should buy-out The Geek Squad. Together they will make nice book-ends out of most everyones PC's. Norton products should come with HUGE warning signs that Norton is about to trash your PC right before your eyes.

Thanks for the review and further warning about Norton and the house of horrors they seem to be running.

Really? That's horrible! I have Norton Internet Security 2011 on my laptop with the Windows 7 OS. Never had any problems with it. I just installed it on our desktop too since the antivirus ran out on that as well. Never had any problems with it either. The antivirus seems to be better than past systems.

I hope that you can find a way to rectify the situation.

Here we go again. Have a computer problem? It must be caused by Symantic / Norton. In the past their software was bloated, slowed your computer and did cause problems. Fast forward. I've tried all of the big names and Norton has given me NO problems. This is now a greatly improved product. It is now streamlined with a very small footprint. It works in the background with NO system slowdown. I have had numerous problems with Web-Root & McAfee. In comparison they don't offer the same protection as Norton.

Over Charge

Recently I had to reload my operating program on my computer all went well until I attempted to reload Norton 360 but finally I got it loaded but that is when the problem started I new that I would have to renew my subscription soon but was shocked when they debited my checking account for $42 for anti virus and 84 dollars for 360 I immediately called and talked to a customer service supervisor and we agreed that she would refund the anti virus charge which should appear in my account within 3 or 4 business days and would extend my current subscription with the 360 charge. This gave me over 400 days remaining I waited 11 days and no refund once again I called Norton and spoke to a supervisor she assured me that everything was straightened out that because of a technical problem the refund had not been processed and I could expect it to appear in 7 to 10 days. Then yesterday to my surprise I got an e mail from Norton that in seven days that my free trial period would expire and my account would be charged 84 dollars for a subscription once again I contacted Norton and demanded to talk to a third level super visor but an American so I could understand what they were saying. I was assured they would call at 10 am central time on August 31, 2011 that time came and went and no call when I attempted to find out why their only answer was that they wanted to set a new time to date there has not been a satisfactory resolution to my complaints and not call from American management personal.

I intend to write to Symantec world head quarters in mountain view ca but don't expect any different results in the mean time they have my money and I have been charged $108.00 Nsf charges by my bank as a result.

Are you typing in all caps because it is easier for you to read what you've written or because you are so upset you want to shout it out to everyone who reads the review. I assume also that you meant to write they were supposed to call you on July 31st 2011 and didn't rather than Aug. 31st 2011 as you have written and which hasn't arrived yet. You have a valid complaint with this company and I would be quite upset about it also in your place. There are many free software programs out there you can use in the place of Norton that do just as well in keeping your computer secure. You might want to try some of them.

Always seemed funny to me that it takes about a tenth of a second to debit your account, but weeks to credit it. Even when they admit they owe you the money.

We build networks as part of our business, but we never use Norton for a LOT of reasons. Thanks for giving us one more...

Security Fraud

Dear Sirs;
Two weeks ago I received a computer diagnosis from Norton 360 whose service I use to protect my computer, that is was not performing correctly. I went online to their Tech Dept and spoke to a representative about this problem and apparently the Tech said he had to take over my computer to analyse the problem. After two hours on my computer which was done by a Tech in the Far East, I believe the Philippines, he advised me that I had to call his company and speak to an agent there about this problem. He gave me a Case Number. I called the Norton Agent and was told that I had to purchase an additional service for $69.00 which would solve the problem. I inquired why my original service which was titled as 360 Norton Premier Protection did not provide the necessary coverage and which cost almost $100.00. He told me that my computer protection plan did not cover this specific problem. I consented to the purchase and he asked for my American Express account number which I gave him. After a minute the Tech came back on line and said that he did not put through the number correctly and that I had to give it to him again, which I did. He then told me he would connect me to a very Special Tech that would download the correct program for me which would take approximately 45 minutes. I told him that I had been on the computer with his Technical Staff already over two hours to begin with. This Special Tech assured me that I would be connected immediately and would have the problem solved immediately. He connected me to some department which had me waiting on a call line over 20 minutes with horrible music playing in the background. I hung up and called back the same telephone number I was given originally to Norton and the same Agent answered my call, and said he apologized that I had to wait and would connect me immediately. Well again, I waited another 20 minutes and no response with the same lousy music. I hung up and called back and told the Special Tech that I changed my mind, that I was not going to wait another minute for anyone and to cancel my charge on my American Express Card for the service that I did not get or receive and he became very angry with me and told me that I had to wait on line for the Customer Service Department as they would then cancel the charge. I waited almost 15 minutes and then just hung up in frustration.
So after spending almost 3 hours on the phone, I clicked on to my American Express account on my computer and saw that I was being charged for two charges of $69.00 on my account. I immediately called American Express and told them of the problem and they expressed shock as to what I had experienced and said they would file a complaint for me with Norton and have the charges removed, which they did.
The very next day, my computer started to send out emails to hundreds of people without my consent, only to have the AOL Post Supervisor to send me back hundreds of declined Daemon Declined Email notices that we not delivered and this continues to this day. I have called AOL about this problem and I may have to change my email address that I have been using now some 15 years to many people. I honestly believe that this Norton Company purposely messed up my computer, both with this Tech who had control of it for almost two hours, and when I cancelled out the additional charge of 69.00 dollars. I have since filed a formal complaint with the BBB and Norton and have not heard one word from either.
I will not renew my Norton Protection Plan again when it expires and I think you should inform your subscribers about this terrible company and their overseas misfits whose only intent is to harass you and inflict terrible problems on your computer. I thought I was dealing with a very reputable company, but have found out otherwise the hard way.
Thank you for allowing me to post this terrible problem and hope that it will help anyone who is considering this company for protection to their computer.

I've been used a whole series of Norton products for many years and actually posted a positive review on here not long ago. I truly do not think anyone there deliberatly injected the virus that caused you computer to start spamming. Possibly, they had to disable virus protection during the time they were addressing your original issue and the virus found its way onto your machine ater that.

I've had people from Symantec, the vendors of Norton products, remotely assess specific issues on my PCs several times. Admittedly, it's never been anything reeally complex. But, in recent years, I've had good, constructive experiences with them. In the past, it was a different story.

However, I can certainly appreciate your frustration in the experience you describe. In your shoes, I don't think I would be continuing to do business with Symantec either.

I have been happy with McAfee. When I bought my current HP desktop, I uninstalled a free trial version of Norton so I could transfer my McAfee account over to the new machine. I also use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (a free download with free manual updates)and CA Yahoo Anti-Spy (part of the Yahoo toolbar) to supplement my McAfee. Rarely do I get hit with a problem, and McAfee Virus Scan and Malwarebytes does do a good job with removing any viruses and malware.

I never liked norton tools, always bloated and made my system slow. I don't think Norton put that worm in there. I agree most likely they turned off one of the protections while they were working on it and then you got hit with a worm. They may have thought another tech was going to reload or turn it back on as you moved up the support ladder. but you short circuited that. so for now go get a free one lke AVG and run some scans then choose a new software and get it installed. I vote no norton..

azrider is correct. The problem you describe is normally a virus/worm or malware that has installed itself on your computer. Most of these can be very difficult to remove as they will root themselves deeply into your computer registry, may have code written into them that will reinstall the program if the code detects the original program was removed.

You can try AVG or one of many other reliable antivirus or malware programs, or search the internet for free tech support forums. Most of these will ask that you run a program known as "hijack this" which will provide a detailed search of your registry, allowing those helping to direct you on how to remove the worm/virus.

Personally, I know this to work, but it can be time consuming and tedious - I usually just restore my system from the recovery disks and start over to save time. Good luck.

21st Century Support

We've been running Norton Internet Security on our computers for quite a number of years. During the last year or so, I've gone for support on three separate occasions.

From what I can see, Symantec doesn't offer telephone support anymore. But they do have an online chat system that you can initiate from their website. I think this is really smart. Instead of having to wait on hold forever to get help, you get a reasonably prompt response from someone who is probably concurrently working with other customers.

Now I've used this kind of chat service with other companies. Sometimes it's fine, sometimes you just don't get any response at all, and sometimes the representatives are just as useless and misinformed as the people on the phone (e. g. Dell and Hewlett-Packard). Each of the three times with Symantec, their reps. were able to address my issues very expediently. They actually know what they are doing.

For example, Norton was kicking up an error code recently. I looked it up on the Symantec website. The instructions said to download and run a removal tool and then re-install the app. I'm sure I could have done that except that the instructions were admittedly incorrect as to how you get your Product Key, which you need to run the installer.

I went to the online chat service. The guy didn't just give me my Product Key - he established a remote session on my computer, and did the whole re-install process himself. Instead of burning up my time, I was able to get dressed and ready to go out while the removal and install processes were running. And, I'm sure, he was able to work with other customers at the same time. It's a win-win.

He was even able to re-boot the machine after the install ran. Sure enough, Norton was reinstalled and showing no error conditions. The only abnormal thing was that the chat session had been restarted as well but there was no communication from the Symantec guy.

After seeing that things looked OK, I just closed out the chat window. But the Symantec guy actually called me, just to make sure things were OK. And he even extended our license for an extra thirty days.

Symantec has earned some loyalty with this customer.

Great review! That is definitely good customer service. I, for one, would not let *anyone* run my system remotely, but, I see that this worked out very well for you. I liked that you got a phone call after your system was rebooted :)

I appreciate the concern about letting people run your system remotely, Andrea. They do routinely promise not to extract any unnecessary information from your machine, etc. but it's a definite trust issue.

Sometimes you have no choice but to let someone run your computer remotely, if you need help. Your only other alternative is to take your computer somewhere.

I use Symantec support once, which was a hybrid of phone/remote computer support. I had a rootkit. If I had another computer available, I could have probably researched the issue (rootkit) and solved it. I didn't, so I paid $99. They fixed the problem efficiently, and I wrote down everything I saw them do. I was subsequently hit 3 times, and using what I saw them do was able to correct the issue myself.

I'd use Symantec support again, no doubt. Good review.

Unauthorized Charge

I was notified by Symantec that they were going to "automatically renew" my subscription. If I didn't want the automatic renewal I should go to a specific web site and click on the "Do not Renew" button. Well, problem is that the "Do Not Renew" button doesn't exist! So I responded to their email saying I did NOT want to renew my subscription. Naturally that email, and subsequent emails sent to Symantec, were ignored. Today I found out that they charged my credit card so now I have the pleasure of contacting my credit card company and going through the motions of removing that charge from my card. The problem is that I think their product is decent, it's just their business practices that are questionable!

Hadenough21, I had the exact same problem yesterday. Rather than dispute your charge immediately try this: Call Symantec/Norton at 1-877-888-7505; listen to the stupid recording and then press 2 on your phone; wait (it takes a while and the music is lousy, but you want to stay in the que) to speak to the human, tell them to remove the charge and credit your credit card (April, the lady I talked to was polite and did it immediately), check for your confirmation in your e-mail that the credit has been issued. HAVE: your order number (from the charge) available, take down the confirmation number that he/she will give you, make a hard copy of the e-mail confirmation, and verify that the credit has been issued to your credit card (April told me it would be 6 days or sooner). By the way, I cancelled my account with Symantec. Like you,I don't want Symantec charging my card without my authorization.

When it comes to internet security, you can never be too safe. My choice of security is directly dependent upon who my internet provider is at the time. For instance, when I was with Qwest, they provided "One-Care" free of charge. And now that I'm with Comcast, they have the Norton Security Suite.

I have been with Comcast for quite some time now, and I must say that the Norton Security Suite is by far the best internet security package I've used. I feel completely safe browsing whatever sites it recommends. It is hands down the easiest to navigate and understand, especially if you're not computer-literate. It puts a green check mark by the sites it finds safe to open, and a red symbol for those that it doesn't. It couldn't be much simpler. The clean-up and care is just as easy to maneuver through too.

Excellent product review!

On my main computer with Windows 7, which I use everday, I dont have any security programs installed as Windows 7 is most secured OS to date.

On my second computer, which is a testing computer, I do have security programs installed as I download softwares from torrents.

I'm offered free, if one wants to call it that, Norton's with my Comcast subscription plus my MSN Premium membership. I still elect for a local computer company to install a yearly business update to my computer. It's an entirely different version. Some might be throwing money out the backdoor but what can I say. It works for me.

I have tried almost every security suite on the market and have found Norton to be the best. It was heavily criticized a few years ago as bloatware and it was. Today's paid version has a very light footprint and little if any impact on system performance. I'm using Verizon Fios which I find far superior to Comcast, my previous ISP. My only complaint with Norton is there horrible renewal practice. About a month prior to the expiration they start spamming you for renewal. If you let it expire the software will not work at all. They want to gouge you with a $59.95 fee. I found Norton on E-Bay for $24.95 and entered the new license code. Done.

Complaint procedure

I have just read a review concerning Symantec crashing a persons computer, it was like listening to myself, I feel sorry that someone else is being maltreated by this company however I feel a bit better knowing that I am not on my own. Here in the UK I have not had a lot of consumer problems but companies like Symontec will eventually destroy all our credibility in the Internet shopping scene. Other retailers should gang together & stop them from ripping people of. Symantec do not have a complaints procedure in fact they do not seem to recognise the word, their people are just taught to be condescending & polite in the extreme. It is sickening.

I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one who has had a tech from symantec crash my machine. I have had two crashes since I purchased Symantec a year ago. It has cost us over $600 to repair the machine! 1st Crash was a virsus and when I got remote access the 1st time they wanted $99 to remove the virsus but in the mist of it all my data was gone. I had to take it to Best Buy to have them remove the virus for $130 and $150 to restore all my valuable data this was in May of 2009 (they advised me then to rid myself of Norton b/c the program is no longer worth calling it a security protection program Got my machine back worked great for about 3 months then I got another virus! Call their tech support after spending 2 days with tech's that are clueless one of them finally claimed they would remove my virus for free! Yeah right - he destroyed my machine after 2 hours and then I got upset and said I wanted someone on America soil to call me to work out a deal to get my machine fixed, never got that called. I had to use other resources to get the number to someone on America soil - got that person. He made a promoise that they would fix my machine for free! Well the bait and switch tactic worked for them. They asked me to take my machine to Best Buy and they would work with them directly, well that never happened! They emailed me offering an additional 1 year subscription and a ghost. I'm unemployed and they would not pay the cost to repair my machine that the dumb tech destroyed. Best Buy again, fixed my machine and advised me again not to put NORTON on my machine because it would soon or later destroy my machine for good. I took their advice and now I'm using Webroot. It is wonderful! No crashes - all virsuses are caught and guess what "Customer Service is AWESOME! My machine is not slow any longer and I'm happy... However, after 3 months of deciding on what to do about symantec costing me over $600 bucks - we have decided to take them to small claims court. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT IT'S A WASTE FOR THE SINGLE CONSUMER USER. They truly make their money from brand name and the Enterprise licenses - charging the companies maint. fees. YOUR MAINT FEE IS THE $99 EVERY 3 MONTHS TO REMOVE VIRUSES... THEIR SUBSCRIPTION PRICE IS TO LOAD THE MACHINE WITH THEIR CRAPPY SOFTWARE and THEN RIP YOU OFF B/C THEY ARE NOT PROTECTING YOUR MACHINE. BUYER BEWARE PLEASE....SCAM, SCAM

How the heck are you getting these viruses anyway? I dont even remember the last time I got a virus. Are you visiting sites prone to viruses? They charged you 150 dollars to remove the virus? What virus was it? Did you keep up on your updates? Its not Symatec's fault you got the virus and Im sure their terms and conditions state that they are not responsible for any viruses you get. If the virus you got was a new virus that symantec did not yet catch, then even if you had NOrton, it would have done the same thing. Stop visiting sites that are prone to viruses and you should be fine.

You can't say that you got a virus and that the tech who attempted to repair it destroyed the machine. You have no way of knowing what damage the virus caused.

Class - same here kinda.
The lappy is a mac but the PC is... well right now it's OpenSolaris but it was XP before.
I had Norton on it but ONLY the antivirus and the firewall

As for "Remote Access"
that's something I never use cos... I don't need to give access to anyone else.

Besides if someone else figures out your password (or whatever you use to log in remotely) they could do a number on your machine I bet.

To be absolutely honest... if there's data I need to bring with me, I just use a thumb drive.

And if I really have a need to get to my data remotely?
well that's what the current OpenSolaris install is for - I can set the PC up as a server
and then just SSH into it remotely.

aint like it costs anything extra anyway, OpenSolaris is free.
though you do need to know how to use linux/unix commands

I am a happy user of Windows 7, browsing with IE8, and I visit all kinds of sites and never had a virus nor malware attack.

PS. Windows 7 is so secure that I never had to install 3rd party firewall and antivirus.

Norton Anti-Virus Seems To Be Messing With My Start-Up Of My Computer And I Have To Constantly Download Updates I Already Have

I needed to take my Dell desktop in for repair to Best Buy, aka, Geek Squad after purchasing it only 15 months previously. It could not start up, and after 6 weeks of trying to find the source my motherboard needed to be replaced. It seemed to work fine till I purchased and downloaded Norton Internet Security Software after just a couple of days. I removed it and reinstalled but now my computer is once again out of service which requires me to be without it again for how long I do not know. My sister also was told she has a very nasty virus that Norton told her would cost an additional 100 dollars to clean from her computer. Norton did detect the downloader virus yesterday from my computer and cleaned it, but as I said, now the computer is dead again. There may be two different problems but I wonder if anyone else has had these type of issues with Norton.

Of course I was silly to purchase it anyway as I just recently found out I get McAfee free for being a Comcast customer. I have also been told that Norton is not recommended by computer savvy people.

Norton is a very dangerous product, It makes nice door stops out of most of the PC's it's installed on. There are a number of free and much less expensive solutions out there like AVG and others. Getting Norton off your PC then doing a good registry clean up will go a long ways in fixing some of the problems you have.

Norton and Mcafee are junk.

I highly recommend Kaspersky's Internet Security Suite, it is the best on the market.

You may have to clean format your hard drive and reinstall Windows to make the computers work again.

I’d dump Norton and go with VIPRE Antivirus or BitDefender since they are the two best antivirus programs on the market right now.

There you have it! What I find amusing is Norton and McAfee the two most advertised products out there did not even make the top ten list. We use the ParetoLogic products and AVG but I am going to take a closer look at BitDefender now as it got a strong 5 out of 5 rating.

I am also a Comcast customer who tried McAfee because it was free. Like everything else in life you get what you pay for. McAfee looked pretty but is not a serious contender if you want real security. If you don't want to pay for this here is your best choice. Get AVG Anti-virus and the Zone Alarm Firewall. Both are excellent and beat most of the pay suites. They are stripped down versions that don't offer "the bling" of the paid version but offer rock solid security and protection. It's still free and much better than McAfee that Comcast is offering. I have tried numerous paid versions of security software. Very frustrating when doing a rating search. What is rated # 1 on one site is now rated # 7 on the next. You can't make an informed intelligent decision. They just want your money and will claim anything to get it. This has been my personal experience. I'm not trying to sell you anything. Norton is highly rated when it works. It's still a system hog and difficult to delete if you don't like it. Can cause many problems. WebRoot, very good but they have a serious problem with updates. I paid for remote assistance and their tech still couldn't get updates for their product. Rather than beat your ear with more bad experiences let me tell you what did work. Tne Zone Alarm Security Suite. Z.A. uses the Kaspersky (Russian) Anti-virus which they tweak to their specifactions. Updates are fast and it blocks Everything. They offer a free 15 day trial. If you hate it (you won't) it's very easy to delete and you have lost nothing. Give it a try..
