11966 EL CAMINO RD, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA -- My wife and I were lured into a sales presentation in Las Vegas through Worldwide Luxury Vacations with a free airfare and vacation promise through VIP travel. We attended the presentation and had the salespeople check on the price for an extended balcony (which the salespeople said is the standard room through Tradewinds Vacations). Since we had a cruise in mind and already priced it out on another discount website we knew the cost for a regular balcony. The salesman left the room and returned with a price about $300 cheaper per person. Based on that we bit and spent $3,000 for the package. Since then we received our membership info and after researching their site I could not find any cruise or vacation plan cheaper than what I could find on my own or probably through a local travel agent. Also most cruise staterooms advertised were either interior or oceanview in the cheapest category. The price given for the extended balcony was a myth.

Also, after researching the free airfare and cruise offer through VIP I threw the coupons away. IF YOU GET A FREE OFFER TO ATTEND DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME.

I never trust sales people giving a presentation. Your review serves as a good warning to people.

Its always funny when people don't use their names. If you going to slam someone or a company don't hide use your real name. I only believe people who use their real name as should you all.

in April Paradise Destination World Wide Luxury Vacations did the same to us: they quoted one thing during the sales presentation, and then in 3 weeks, when we finally had the access to the travel web site of Grand Vacations, the prices turned out to be not better than the discounted travel agency we had been already using. The phone on the contract is a fiction, nobody answers it. Through Better BB we found a working number but the manager there does not make decisions about refunding us $4000.00 for the "exclusive" membership, but refuses to provide the NAMES (!) of her superiors! Have you ever heard about a respectable company which exces' names are a secret?! Do not attend ANY of the travel clubs presentations, even if they promise free travel - you won't be able to use it because it is designed this way.

I was skeptical at first but now I see the light

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- To be completely honest I wasn't exactly sure we made the best financial decision purchasing a membership to this "travel design company". So as soon as I got my membership in the mail I called Travel Services to start booking a vacation.

I could not believe how easy it was to book a complete vacation with airfare, lodging, a cruise and a ton of things to do while in port from the cruise. The operator was very friendly and informative and did all the research and work for us. She even told us how much our rebate check would be... over $500... YAY!!!

Long story short my husband and I booked a 14 day Caribbean Cruise with lodging in 4 star condos while the boat is in port and we saved over half the money we would have spent booking this vacation our own.

Conservatively we saved over $4,800 and took this entire vacation for 3,900 for the both of us.

I have never been more satisfied with a purchase in my entire life. Thank you Tradewinds Vacations and Worldwide Luxury Vacations.

What does a membership cost? I am very skeptical of travel clubs, as I believe nothing is free or reduced without a catch.

sounds like a commercial to me. the only thing left out was the web address. I'm not so sure this was a real note and not a fancy placement ad.

How do you take a 14 day cruise and lodging in a 4 star condo at the same time? Sounds like a promo to me.

Not A Four Star Hotel
Posted by on

Never book through Hotwire there is no way this is a 4 star hotel as they clam. Very disappointed. Water pressure in bathroom lousy. Hot water out of cold water valve in bathroom, difficult to shave. I had to call my wife to have her feel the water. I have never heard of such a thing. Security is lousy and rude. Apparently arrested a drunk on my floor who was running down the hall and banging on walls, room 4627 and I spoke, confirming what had happened. Restaurant the Bermuda expensive and not much better than frozen food from the supermarket. The fruit was rotted and smelled badly. We had breakfast the next day at the Don Cesar it was perfect. Room air conditioner rattled all night.

Shower in next room would actually wake me up with a roaring sound. And I'm a sound sleeper. Parking is terrible if you leave the hotel you'll be searching for a spot for some time when you return. DON'T LEAVE. Parking spots are tiny. Most SUV owners like myself had to let passengers out first before squeezing into the spot. Pools are crowded and small. Water has odor. Yes there is a covered pool it’s a kiddy splash pool that's all. Apparently anyone can wonder in off the beach and use the pools, towels etc, security is scarce this is not fair to paying customers. I’m not even sure if the person arrested was a guest of the hotels, for all I know he could have walked in off the street.

I will make a complaint to the BBB however this is a long and lengthy annoying process, if you ever had the pleasure of dealing with the BBB then you would understand. I asked for a late check out for the inconveniences and was told no late check outs. I explained the night before and was told a manager would be contacted. Never heard back from anyone. DO NOT LET YOURSELF BELIEVE THIS IS A 4 STAR HOTEL IT IS NOT. THE DON CESAR WAS AWESOME SEVERAL YEARS AGO. not a single complaint. That's a true 4 star. Oh and the only reason I didn't complain was because I didn't want to ruin any further a quick family get away weekend. But now it's my time and I'll speak my peace.

Sounds like they handled the drunk. Poor guy!
Anonymous on 08/11/2009:
It's probably a 4-star rating from the 4 or 5 Hotwire employees they surveyed.
Tom20349 on 08/11/2009:
C20 do you have anything constructive you would like to say?
Anonymous on 08/11/2009:
Well, Tom, I sure hope your future vacations are better. This place sounds like it was pretty inferior. I hope you were able to enjoy the vacation anyway and have some fun.
BokiBean on 08/11/2009:
Something constructive? The idea is probably completely foreign to him.

Tom, good might think about putting it on too.
Tom20349 on 08/11/2009:
justthefaxx, unfortunately it is rated 4 star resort or 4 diamond just like the Don Cesar by multiple sites, Expedia, Travelocity, and the resort itself. I don't know how the two could possible be rated the same it would be like comparing the Hilton to a Motel 6. Unlike C02 who was probably the drunk, I actually stayed at both these hotel/resorts so I know what I'm talking about. I figured I would save a few dollars, and since both were rated the same why not. You get what you pay for, and sometimes not even then. Oh and Maria was my check out person. I was waiting for her to ask how was my stay. Man I was seething. You know she never did..nor did she contact the manager as told. Thanks Maria, that's why you work at the Tradewinds not the Don.
Tom20349 on 08/11/2009:
Thank you for the support Boki and Knowitall, I really had better things to do with my time as we all do, but perhaps this will send a message to Tradewinds to step up or step out. Bokibean I am going to post on as well thanks for the info. Happy vacationing to all.
Even to C02 who I'm sure gets an employee's discount at the Tradewinds.
