Crack Den Hotel Was Not a 3 Star!!!
By -

Okay, so we are headed to Hawaii for a romantic one week getaway. We had to overnight in Anchorage. No problem, she booked a three star through Travelocity. As we pulled into the motel efficiency parking lot, we both looked at each other. This was a two story, run down, crack den, hooker-ville motel. The photo from the website looked nothing like this place. We continued with the check-in because maybe, just maybe, the room would be okay.

As we walked to the room, we passed a row of old beat-up cars that had so much dirt and dust on them, it was clear they haven't been moved for a couple years. We also ran the gauntlet of drug dealers and a couple hookers en route to our room.

The room: One old couch in the living room could only be described as a smelly grease trap. The place looked like someone's old run-down apartment. There was food on the phone and the place reeked of the stench of IV drug users. I have been a cop for 22 years. I have seen places like this in the ghetto during flop house/drug raids. Words cannot accurately describe the terrible rundown condition of this pit. We turned around and walked out. Of course, no refund. $100 bucks down the drain. We went to the Anchorage Downtown Marriott and spent an hour showering.

TRAVELOCITY: Forget working with Travelocity to fix this. They were of no use whatsoever. It is clear to me that Travelocity couldn't care less about the safety, let alone the comfort, of their dwindling customer base. To say that Travelocity was less than responsive would be kind. To say that they simply were not interested in making this right would be spot on. Days and days were spent on the phone only to finally be told that there was nothing they could do. Really? Nothing? What kind of crappy company is this?

WARNING: Never, use this company. There is no back-checking and no desire to look out for their customers. They put it all on the hotel. Total Bravo Sierra. Terrible company. You would do better to shop around yourself and avoid Travelocity like you would avoid the disease likely to be found in that room.

Terrible Customer Service

We feel that booking through Travelocity ruined our honeymoon on this island. It seems that the Resort treats patrons that book through agencies as second rate. Upon arrival, there was no shuttle waiting for us - we thought this was standard, as indicated on their website as included in their packages. We spent 400 baht out of pocket.

Next, we arrive and there are over 17% in taxes, which was not what we encountered in the rest of Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, nor Cambodia. Then, we find out that the room booked did not include breakfast - when I booked, I thought it included breakfast. On the Bandara website, the price of 3810 baht (4478 with the outrageous 17%tax) includes breakfast. As such, we asked the hotel to rectify this problem. They turned away rudely. Stated that it wasn't their problem and to contact the agent. We went to 4 different phones and could not get through.

We tried to complain with the Manager Paul and he explained that there wasn't anything he could do because they had to pay a commission the agent. We felt extremely mistreated and ripped off. They suggested that we cancel the reservation with Travelocity so they could help us, but we could not get through to your worldwide #.

They then said that if we paid for another night, they would add breakfast. This was totally not fair. Moreover, Bandara had a promotion for 8700 baht, net, 2 nights including breakfast, airport transfer, dinner, etc. This is cheaper than what we paid AND includes breakfast, airport transfer, dinner. Agoda and Hotel.com also have less expensive pricing equating to 3810++, including the above features.

I just spent over 45 minutes calling the call center in India - the reps were extremely rude and not client-service oriented whatsoever. Jessica or Visna spent over 10 minutes arguing with me and telling me that there was nothing she could do because I did not call before staying at the hotel. I explained to her that I tried and could not connect from Thailand. She is unsympathetic and kept directing me to email Consumer Relations, which is what we are doing. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 15 minutes. Then, Phillip picked up and told me that the Call Center didn't have a supervisor. What the heck is going on with Travelocity??!

We requested that we be reimbursed for such stress and disappointment on our honeymoon. We felt that we overpaid and did not get treated equally, and Travelocity should have honored its price match guarantee. They also need to look at the poor service received via farming out to a Call Center in India, where the English is poor and client service is non-existent! NEVER AGAIN!!! They should go out of business.

Lack of customer service/failure to assist customer

My daughter and I booked a week long trip from NY to CA to check out colleges. We were positive about visiting colleges in the San Jose area, therefore we booked the flight, car, and San Jose hotel through an airline; there was no problem with that portion of the trip. The first two nights were booked the day prior to the trip via Travelocity. Specifically, this was two nights in the Ramada Hotel in West Sacramento.

When we arrived at the hotel (about 11 PM on Sunday night) we were told our reservations had not been accepted. The Ramada desk clerk informed us the hotel was fully booked on the second night of our reservation; therefore the reservation was accepted for neither night. When the Ramada received the Travelocity reservation, Ramada (1) called Travelocity and left a voicemail, and (2) sent an email to Travelocity (received an automated reply that the email would be reviewed within 45 days), and (3) faxed a handwritten note. The Ramada clerk had assumed Travelocity would have resolved the problem prior to my arrival.

Travelocity customer service was useless. When we finally reached a supervisor, the Travelocity "solution" was: (1) cancel the existing reservation and return our money, (2) we were out of luck for Sunday night since it was after midnight, they couldn't book a room, and (3) they would assist us with booking a new room for Monday night at whatever price was available (i.e. would not honor the original price). The Ramada clerk called the Clarion hotel in Sacramento and verified a room was available for both nights. We received no assistance whatsoever from Travelocity customer service. We received directions to the Clarion from the Ramada desk clerk.

We drove to the Clarion and checked in for two nights around 1 AM. After my wife sent in an email complaint, we received a standard apology letter from Travelocity. We received a restricted "$50 off" your next trip coupon. We did not received reimbursement for the difference of the hotel cost between the original booking (Ramada) and the new hotel (Clarion). The difference was less than the $50 coupon.

The point is obvious: they have no customer service. They could have resolved the problem by rebooking us into the Clarion at the price of the Ramada. Note: the Ramada desk clerk mentioned the Clarion as an alternative hotel to the Travelocity supervisor in my presence.

Travelocity - land of 1000 excuses

I booked a hotel for a family visit to San Diego through Travelocity. I went the week before for work and once I realized where the hotel was, cancelled it and made another (yes through Travelocity at a location better suited for family). I received an email back from Travelocity stating that the amount of the hotel would be refunded to my card (was cancelled 5 days prior to stay). I was charged the entire amount for the stay. When I contacted Travelocity customer service, the first excuse I got was that those emails are automatic and they have no record of the cancellation.

Next they changed the story to blame the hotel (that Holiday Inn had a 30 day prior cancellation policy). While I still had Travelocity on the line I called the hotel in San Diego, got the manager on the line who told me that their policy was to charge only the first day if not cancelled prior to check-in time. All I have gotten is excuses and poor customer service from Travelocity. Latest email, they admit it was cancelled and are working on refund. Since then they have refused to return calls or follow-up. I couldn't recommend using them to anyone - find a better travel planner who works on results instead of excuses.

Thanks for the Horrible Experience, Travelocity.

My boyfriend and I had planned to run a race in Valle Crucis, NC and then stay in nearby Blowing Rock, NC post-race. Upon our arrival at the hotel, I was told by the front desk clerk that there was no record of my reservation (other than the printed confirmation I had placed in front of her). They, of course, had no vacancies, nor did their sister hotels... so she could do nothing and recommended I call Travelocity and take it up with them. She also said that they have had numerous problems with Travelocity not sending them confirmations of bookings.

So, I immediately call Travelocity and get a barely-English-speaking "customer service" representative. After explaining the situation, he put me on hold to call the hotel. He's back on the line and apologizes and confirms that it is Travelocity's fault, that they failed to send the hotel the confirmation for my reservation. He says he'll credit my account for the amount, and will book me a new hotel and charge me that new amount.

I protested immediately, realizing that there's no way he's going to find another booking for the "deal" rate I had received. I told him that Travelocity could keep my $79.66, and could find me a hotel for the night, and that if there was a difference, Travelocity should cover that themselves. The jerk actually laughed at me and said that would not be possible, at which point my red hair caught fire and I became irate, demanding to speak with his superior immediately.

He finally agreed to leave the current charge on my card, and to book me another hotel at Travelocity's expense. He puts me on hold, again, and comes back with a hotel that's 30 minutes from where we are supposed to be staying. After assaulting him with another barrage of curse words, and giving him a very nearby city to check, he finally came back with an acceptable location/hotel for us to stay in. So, we finally checked into the replacement hotel around 4:30 that afternoon.

Travelocity did, in fact, pay for the room... but I will be checking my card statement to see if they charge me any miscellaneous fees related to their screw up. Their guarantee is a LOAD OF CRAP, unless you whine until they just can't take it. Their "customer service" is LAUGHABLE. I will never book through them again!

Didn't Book the Reservation
By -

My boss offered to pay for a one night hotel stay and gas in San Francisco so I could drop off some hardware that was his. So, we decided to just take a weekend, catch a Giants game, and do some sight seeing since we only lived 2.5-3 hours from Frisco. Seem like a pretty simple, harmless trip that would be hard to screw up right? However, I decided to use Travelocity to book the hotel... which was a mistake.

We booked a night at a hotel a couple of days before the trip. When we arrived at the hotel a couple of days later to check-in, the hotel had no record whatsoever of our reservation. The ladies at the reception were very courteous and called Travelocity to try to figure it out. They were booked solid for the weekend however, so there was no way they could get us a room.

After talking to a Travelocity agent, the ladies at the desk called another fairly close by hotel of roughly the same value, and told the Travelocity agent that we were referred to this hotel (which had open rooms) and he needed to call this hotel to set us up with a reservation. A little ticked off, but happy we would get this settled, I went to the new hotel.

When I arrived at the new hotel, I mentioned that we were the people that were referred from the other hotel, which was acknowledged by the receptionist. I told him that Travelocity was supposed to call this hotel to transfer our information and such... but of course they received no such thing. He checked their fax machine... nothing, so I was back on the phone with Travelocity. After telling the Travelocity agent the whole story, he said he needed to call the other hotel to get some information, to which I told him they had absolutely no information on my reservation. It was as if everything I had done until now for nothing.

So, the agent puts me on hold to contact the other hotel. After a few minutes he clicks back over and told me that they had put him on hold because they were really busy (I am pretty sure the hotel was sick of dealing with Travelocity as well).

So, I lost it a bit and let off a bit of steam to this particular agent telling him that I was charged for nothing. He said there was nothing they could do because the manager for the other hotel was not there. I demanded my refund there, but he told me the same thing. So I got some info on the agent, hung up, and booked a room in the new hotel I was at. I had a fine weekend after all this mess and I just hope Travelocity refunds the money they charged me. Don't deal with these people.

"Confirmation" Doesn't Mean "Confirmed." "Guarantee" Doesn't Mean "Guaranteed."

I learned a couple of things on my trip: 1. When Travelocity sends you a confirmation email, it doesn't mean you are actually confirmed. 2. Their guarantee to "make it right, right away" really means, "If we screw up, we'll give you your money back and leave you stranded in a foreign country half way around the world."

I got a confirmation from Travelocity 18 days before our trip to Bali. When we arrived, however, there was no record of our reservation at the hotel. I called Customer Service, but my roaming charges were $3/minute. I explained to the representative (Angel) about my situation. She said I would have to be put on hold while she talked to a supervisor, because she was not able to make outgoing calls. I told her it was very expensive and to have a supervisor call me back. She said I would have to wait. After being on hold for 8 minutes (~$24), I hung up and called back. This time, the representative immediately said he would have a supervisor call me back.

I actually was called back by two supervisors within a minute of each other. I stayed connected with the female supervisor. She checked all of the Travelocity hotel partners in Bali. She told me they were all booked, except one that was more expensive, but she would be happy to book it for me. It turns out that it was $900/night. I said "What about the 'Guarantee'?" She said they can't put me in a more expensive hotel, unless I pay the difference. This was completely their fault, but their interpretation of the "Guarantee" is much different from mine.

After Travelocity dumped me and hung up, I called the only person I "knew" in Bali: The owner of Kaverasana Bali Tour, whom I had booked for our second day. He was able to find us a much nicer hotel, right on the beach, for only US$4 more per day than the dumpy hotel from Travelocity. He saved the rest of our vacation from the jaws of Travelocity.

My husband and I booked a room in New Orleans at Harrahs hotel. The room was supposed to be a luxury room suite with 2 queen beds. We booked this through Travelocity.com. This was our 20th anniversary celebration and what did we get? No luxury suite, 1 queen bed, and it was for the hearing impaired. I called Travelocity who called the hotel and they stated that they only guaranteed a room and not the accommodations asked for. We paid over 800.00 for this room that was only worth 150.00 at most. Travelocity should have advised us of Harrahs policy and they did not. I expect a refund and I will never book another vacation with Travelocity or Harrahs hotel in New Orleans.

I booked a room for Embassy Suites in Rogers, Arkansas. I thought I was dealing with someone at the hotel in Rogers. Later, I found out that I had made my reservation through Travelocity and the booking agent was actually located in the Philippines. I was told on the phone that there were only a few rooms left which was totally a lie. I booked the room for Christmas Eve and my husband and I never saw any other guests at the hotel. I never received a confirmation from Travelocity (probably because they didn't want me to know that they charged $29.00 to make the reservation).

Embassy Suites in Rogers told us the charge for the room was $90.00. Received my bill today and it was $129.00 because Travelocity charged more than if I would have booked through Embassy Suites. What a rip off! They don't want to honor the price of the hotel. Had I known who I was dealing with I would have never booked through them. I live in Oklahoma and could have easily booked the room myself.

Shame on Travelocity and their scams! I also didn't know that if we had been unable to use the reservation, the money would not have been refunded. That was never disclosed. I can now understand why I never received a confirmation from them. They try to hide everything so the customer won't know what's going on. This place needs to be shut down!

Travelocity Has No Heart With Hotel Cancellation Within 15 Min

On Dec 26 2013, I made a hotel reservation through Travelocity after having my flight canceled and rescheduled. 15 minutes later I realized that the booking was incorrect. I called Travelocity and they wouldn't budge on the cancellation charge of one night. I waited on line 15 minutes to talk to the supervisor but Nathan wouldn't budge and simply stated that I should have read the policy better.

I admitted my mistake and was happy to take a penalty but insisted the penalty for 15 minutes was high. This was not waiting 1 week later or even a day later but 15 minutes. Travelocity has no heart. I ended up paying the full charge of the cancellation. My advice: book directly through the hotel.
