Homes built by Trowbridge Construction in MI is a NIGHTMARE!
Posted by Hilda099 on 08/02/2010
AUBURN HILLS, MICHIGAN -- I purchased a home from this company back in December 2009, the basement was already poured I was assured they could build a house in 72 days, weather permitting of coarse. After a very mild winter in Michigan the walls were up and that's where the house sat for months...spring time rolls around, and still no work was being done on the house. It's now August and the house is still not done!! Plus, many of the upgrades we were promised were not in the plans according to the builder! Several calls to the sales representative that promised this stuff go unanswered! I would love to post his name, but this site forbids it. He called me all the time before I signed the papers to purchase the house, now he won't return any of my calls. My advice...avoid purchasing a house from this company. I wish someone would have told me this last year!!

OP what does your contract say?
Posted by saj80 on 2010-08-02:
You do know that there is a housing crisis now, right? Your builder may have run into financial problems, as many did, and didn't have the funds to finish. Your contract may have a complete-by date, but it doesn't mean anything if the builder and/or subcontractors don't have the means to finish. Did you put some money down? If so, be prepared to either lose it, or keep praying that someone will get the house finished.

Hopefully you haven't fed him through a construction loan. Loans in this fashion place you in all kinds of danger.

Please give us the update on this issue. We are considering this builder and your input is very much valued. Was the house completed? How is the quality?

This company is the worst to deal with. Utterly unprofessional and unethical

Just wondering if there are any updates about this company... We are considering purchasing a home from them as well and any input would be very useful.

Curious -- Avoid this company at any cost. If you sign a contract with them you will suffer for the next 1-2 years and never get what you want. Also quality of construction is very poor. Their building license should revoked. Terrible builder!! Go with a reputed builder like Pulte or Toll Brothers

DO NOT proceed with any purchase from this company or builder!! The builder lies about everything and will not agree to put anything in writing. The purchase agreement is completely one sided, and the home likely won't appraise for what he is trying to charge. We have wasted five months and were promised a home in two months. The builder will try to blame his errors and delays on the purchaser because he is extremely disorganized and incompetent. This builder should not be conducting business.

The wrote company to deal with. The builder lies about everything. At first he gives you all the attention and comes of as very professional and kind. He makes lots of promises but once you sign the contract he will ignore your calls and your emails. You have to deal with his staff and they are just as ruthless. If you have go with this company, Have the contract reviewed by at least two attorneys to protect yourself. Supposedly the builder is an attorney.

This builder is an absolute joke. He is a liar and a scam artist. He hires subcontractors to build a home and then does not pay them!!! Carpenters, electricians, plumbers, even the landscaping co. About 75% of the houses and condos that have been built at Cobblestone Ridge in Belleville have LIENS on them for non payment. Just ask the association...they despise this builder. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BRAD B!

All of the above statements are true about this company, we have been waiting for our home to be built since late last summer....nothing but a basement so far and many lies told along the way. I agree DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH B.B.!

This company is a complete clown show. Make sure to have very good representation if you are dealing with this company. I had a contract to build with him. Countless lies on timing, what is included, how out of scope work would be included. Check around: you will not fine anyone who will say a good word about the owner. He has a horrible reputation with suppliers, subcontractors, customers, real estate agents. They have one of the last lots in Hampton Ridge in Canton. I would only considering buying the lot. Don't build with this guy.

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS BUILDER!!! We are still under construction and we get nothing but lies about the delays. They say they cannot get trades people in but I see houses by other builders going up very fast. The builder would not sign our purchase agreement without the entire deposit in cash with the assurance that our home was a priority. Sound shady? We were fools and now we are paying the price. And Lord help you if you have to deal with their designer! I have zero confidence that the materials we chose will make it to the house. She is non-responsive and then gives you information on something you never asked for. Some of the staff at Trowbridge are completely incompetent...it's sad because now we are stuck dealing with this builder everyday until our home is finished (whenever that may be...oh nevermind, they say 60 days about every 30 days). Wish I would have seen these reviews prior to handing over all of our life savings.

Every negative comment about this company is true. Was true even before Brad B., though, he is the absolute worst!! I will be dealing with them in court very shortly.

NEVER use this company. Smiles, promises, and very friendly until you sign on the dotted line. Then everything stops. All promises made go unanswered and then he plays stupid or promises whatever you want just to get rid of you. Bad reputation and very poor quality!

Ive read these posts and i am very concerned. Building a house always has timing risks and is certainly at least a six month project. This builder has many lots in the westridge subdivision and there seem to be at least 2 underway. Making sure things are specified in the contract is always key. Are any of these experiences different than normal issues of not specifying in your contract or normal construction delays? I am sure things were difficult in 2009/10 but how about now , especially in westridge?
