Many Check Engine Problems and More
Posted by on
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, ILLINOIS -- I bought the 2004 standard Golf in 2005. It was previously used but the guy returned it after 6000 miles. It ran fine. It handles VERY well. Turning is amazing and smooth. The sound system is the BEST I have ever heard and it's standard!

The problems started soon. I don't even know how many times the check engine came on. At least 5 within three years. My AM radio does not work, the trunk gets wet when it rains. I was driving and all of a sudden the driver side window well into the door! It happened two times before but only half way. This time all the way. The cables inside were broken and had to be replaced. I have never heard of a car going through as many lights as I go through. Ever three months there is at least one problem with the car. When the car was four years old it started to rust in various places.

After owning a VW I must say that they are very nice to drive. Comfortable and tight. When you steer you feel like you are truly part of the car. But I will not be buying a VW again. You can get a cheaper car with the same features and more.

Guess I'll stick with my '99 Honda Accord for a while. 10 years old and not one major repair yet. I did replace the timing belt at 57,000 miles, but that was standard maintenance and not necessity.
