Refrigerator Fails and No Warranty Appointment for 11 Days

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- I purchased a French door Whirlpool Gold with bottom freezer on 10/05/2013 for $2,142. The refrigerator failed on 08/20/2014 and we lost at least $100 in food from spoilage. I called Whirlpool service on 08/22/2014 requesting a service appointment and after being on hold for over 26 minutes, I was told that the soonest available appointment was seven days away on 08/29/2014. I told the representative that this was not acceptable and that my family could not be without a refrigerator for 7 days. He informed me that whirlpools resource team would contact me if there was a sooner opening for service.

On 08/26/2014 I received a call that my appointment for service was now scheduled on 09/02/2014. I called to ask why they had extended the appointment rather than finding a sooner opening. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that they had the same information. They (representative ** in Michigan and her manager) told me that because I did not take the first appointment that they now only had 09/02/2014 available. I let them know that I did take the first appointment and that I was told the resource team would call if they had a sooner appointment.

I expressed that being without a refrigerator and waiting 11 days was not acceptable for my family. They responded that it is not their fault that the factory approved service facilities were booked and did not have appointments. I stated that Whirlpool should have resources in place to take care of their customers and to repair and replace failed appliance is a timely manner. I let them know that the way Whirlpool handled this situation is unacceptable. If Whirlpool cannot handle the failure rate of their products and provide proper service and warranty support then they will lose my business for life.

Rust on Whirlpool Refrigerator

MICHIGAN -- We bought a Whirlpool French door refrigerator in Sept 2017 from Lowe's, that is another fiasco in itself! The ice maker quit after one month and they did replace it, but the summer of 2018 we noticed rust on the front of the refrigerator, yes rust! It's stainless steel, or suppose to be. We corresponded with them in August of 2018 and they suggested we buy a product they recommended to help with the rust, really, I couldn't believe it, they wanted us to buy a product to fix their problem! The year of warranty ran out, but we had initiated this complaint before the year was up.

I mailed Whirlpool pictures, and email of initial contact with them, their response was a free can of spray cleaner and some wipes!!! Never again will I buy a Whirlpool appliance. Shame on them. I am including some pictures, they aren't very clear but it has actually gotten worse on side of doors.

Could Not Have Been Better

PENNSYLVANIA -- Our experience with Whirlpool could not have been better. My wife and I purchased a Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator from Lowe's. Upon delivery we noticed that the top shelf on the interior of the right door wouldn't fit, so Whirlpool said, no problem, they'll ship us a new right door. The new right door arrived with no Whirlpool logo attached to it, and although all the interior shelves fit fine, the right door didn't align perfectly with the left.

It looked as if Whirlpool had sent us a generic door cannibalized from a spare refrigerator somewhere. It certainly didn't look like the refrigerator we had seen displayed on Lowe's showroom floor. When I called Whirlpool to express our unhappiness, they thought about it and within a week called me back to state they were sending us a brand new refrigerator and they would remove our existing refrigerator, entirely at their expense. I cannot commend Whirlpool enough for standing behind their product and for caring enough about our satisfaction.

Whirlpool Worthless! Customer Service Useless!

Since May 3, 2016, five servicemen have failed to repair my defective refrigerator, which is less than 2 yrs old. (One trainee had the nerve to reinstall broken parts.) I am completely without refrigeration for the past 48 hrs & now find out that the repairman scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled because AIG warranty has not approved his visit. Further investigation reveals that the parts haven't even been ordered yet, pending AIG approval. Whirlpool can't help because AIG has not declared it "unfixable." hhgregg will do nothing.

I have spent countless hours on the phone on hold & wasted hundreds of dollars' worth of spoiled food. DO NOT TRUST WHIRLPOOL. They are not the reputable company they once were. Their warranties aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Buyer beware!

You Choose: Soft Serve Ice Cream or Frozen Ice Cream and Eggs!

DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA -- We purchased our basic Whirlpool refrigerator model # WRT318FZDM05 from Lowe's on September 13, 2019. We bought one of the more basic models available because we have owned higher end "fancier" refrigerators which have had multiple problems and not worked. So this is the 18.2 cubic feet top freezer model. About six weeks after owning it (conveniently just past the 30 day return window at Lowe's!) we began to notice that our freezer wasn't freezing properly or making enough ice.

There is only one control panel in this basic fridge so we turned it up. While this cranked up the freezer, the refrigerator compartment began to freeze its contents. So we had to choose between soft serve ice cream and refrigerated eggs and milk or hard serve ice cream and frozen eggs and milk! Finally after the holidays the certified Whirlpool appliance technician came out and recommended a repair with replacement of start device and control board. His report: Freezer not freezing, found the compressor turning on and off. The refrigerator was not even 4 months off the floor and the problem began when it was only 2 months old!

When you call the Whirlpool number here's what they say: "Welcome to the Whirlpool customer exp. For over a century we've believed in everyday care. Let's see how we can care for you today." Well, when someone calls with a very recently purchased refrigerator whose START DEVICE and CONTROL BOARD no longer work properly that person should be able to return the defective appliance and get a new one. Nope. Not with the Whirlpool experience. You are told that you'll have to wait and see if those devices which are ten days away from being replaced in your "new" refrigerator will fix the problem. So basically NO do not buy from Whirlpool. Turns out a century of everyday care (??) hasn't taught them much about how in this century people need a refrigerator that works everyday!!!!

Food Freezing in Refrigerator Compartment

FORT COLLINS, COLORADO -- Bought Whirlpool bottom freezer refrigerator for new home we moved into in May 2018, based on our experience with same model we bought when remodeling kitchen in our previous house. After 6 months, food started freezing in the refrigerator compartment (jars of pickles, vegetables, etc frozen solid). 3 service calls by two different appliance repair companies while under manufacturer's warranty did not fix problem, so we purchase extended warranty to protect ourselves given this history. Didn't realize it was through AIG, a third party - what a mistake!

Since May 2019 when we purchased the warranty, we've had 8 service calls, none of which have fixed the problem, so total of 11 service calls with no fix. AIG says it can't count the 3 under manufacturer's warranty, which is nonsense, but still -- 8 service calls since May without a fix. Each time I call to request the replacement or buyout promised in the policy, I get the run around about it needing to be the same part that gets replaced 3 times with no fix, and that each time it needs to be under a new claim number. And, if return service call occurs within 90 days, there is no new claim number. So, by my calculations, it would take a minimum of 9 months to resolve this issue!

Told AIG I am ready to go to our TV station's consumer advocates folks and they seemed unconcerned. Scheduled a tech once again to come out - he'll need to convince Whirlpool's senior engineer that the problem is unrepairable. While this has all been happening, our brand new Whirlpool dishwasher that came with our new home stopped heating the water - heating element burned out in 18 months! (Whirlpool did agree to pay for repairs even though it was beyond 1 year warranty). However, two takeaways: 1) Never, ever, ever buy an extended warranty from AIG; 2) Never purchase another Whirlpool product ever again.

I bought a $3000 French door, freezer drawer on the bottom style fridge in October 2013, as of October 2016 my freezer stopped working as well as not producing any ice with the water/ice dispenser. Whirlpool told me fridge was not covered past the 1 year manufacturer's warranty, so ok fine, they convinced me to buy their warranty/repair plan that for the next year the item will return to full coverage, all repairs and parts included. I went for it.

The servicer came out several weeks later and looked at my fridge, and deemed it nonrepairable, they said I would be contacted within the week most likely for a refund of my warranty plan because absolutely nothing can be done. Fine, no call ever came.

The servicer ended up coming out FIVE more times with all different types of parts, control panels, motors, valves, nothing worked. So I wasted SIX days of my SEVEN vacation days I receive from work, for a fridge that had already been deemed not repairable. Finally the last service guy to come out was confused as to why they kept trying new parts because it was a sealed system leak and once that happens there is nothing that can be done.

I have been dealing now for a month and half trying to GET MY MONEY BACK from Whirlpool for the repair plan, I have called 27 times now to be given the same information: "Your plan is still being canceled and is processing. Give it another week." Well it's been 5 almost 6 weeks now.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! I haven't had a fridge in 3 months, I can't get another fridge because now all of my money is locked up by Whirlpool and their GOD-AWFUL customer service skills. DON'T BUY WITH THEM AND DON'T EVER BUY THEIR JOKE OF A WARRANTY. They will never give your money back.

Warranty Not 12 Months if Delivery Takes Time

MICHIGAN -- Noticed door seal was splitting 12/1/2019 on refrigerator I delivered on 12/22/2018. I was told by Whirlpool that warranty is from date of purchase not date of delivery. Since I purchased this special order item on 11/10/2018 I was told my refrigerator is out of warranty. I was advised that this is stated in the warranty document that you don't get or look at until after the appliance is delivery. Be warned you do not get a full 12 months of warranty on anything you special order from Whirlpool no matter how long it takes for them to build and ship it to you.
