Gift Card Rip Off

Rating: 1/51
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA -- On 12/04/2013 time: 21:37:28
Batch and Reference: 86211046
Authorization: 583634
My family and I love White Castle and has been coming to this Restaurant for years to eat. Last month we ordered $27.00 worth of food. As I got to the window a team member had explained to my husband and I that any customer that spends over $25.00 in one transaction gets 2 gift cards one for $25.00 that's reload able and just a free $5.00 gift card if we add .50 with our order. We both agreed sure why not. Our total we spent in cash was $27.50 and the team member handed me 2 receipts. One for our meal and another showing $25.00 on one gift card and $5.00 gift card. The bottom of that receipt says Card Activated Gift Trans Number: 583634! Now on the back of the 25.00 gift card it say's it's reload able after first use and $5.00 gift card says its valid and redeemable starting 01/01/2014 until 02/28/2014! With today being a holiday New Years Day we though it would be a great time to use these cards. My husband had try buying a 30 crave case box and 2 sacks of fries. When he gave the member the gift cards to pay for our order he said there was no funds on either card though we never spent it because we could not use it today. I know we did not misunderstand a thing the employee had said because there were 2 of us. As a loyal customer and being a store manager in retail myself the customer is always right. Your employee did not explain the offer right and gave us a false advertisement or ripped us off. I'm not asking for reimbursement but it would be nice if they could make it right over some redeemable coupons or something. I'm so disgusted that someone could try too rip off 2 senior citizens and think it's OK to get away with it cause they think us older people are stupid and senile!

It doesn't sound right at all. Why would they offer you a free 25 dollar gift card and 5 dollar gift card for a total of only 27.00? I bet maybe you had to buy the 25 dollar gift card to get the 5 dollar gift card free. I think someone had a misunderstanding here. I don't think it was your fault, whoever took your order. No store would give out 25 dollars for 25 dollars and over....unless they want to go out of business.
Jeff on 2014-01-03:
I agree with the person above, I believe there was some sort of misunderstanding here. And I also believe that if you really worked in retail management you would not be saying, "The customer is always right." The customer most certainly is not always right. As someone who does work in retail management, this phrase infuriates me. The ones who use it are almost always the customers that are trying to screw over the company and will lie cheat and steal to get their way.

Poor Management Skills. Lying Manager
Posted by on
WHITEHALL, PENNSYLVANIA -- I had visited the White Castle on MacArthur Rd in Whitheall Pa on Nov 20 2011 and purchased $54.47 of food. When I got home some of the food was raw and uncooked so I called and spoke to a woman that took my name and order number a list of items that were raw and stated for me to come in to get the food replaced..... Today Nov 27th I was passing by so I stopped to get the food and was giving the food without hesitation which made me a happy customer. as I proceeded to my car in the parking lot I was chased down by a caucasian male who was yelling that he gave me the replacement food already last week and has my plate number down...... I knew he was lying and when I approached him and confronted him he stated nevermind and went back in the White Castle....So frustrated from the embarrassment from him yelling at me in front of all the people in the parking lot, I went back in the store to get his name and he and other workers refused to give me his name which I found out was Peter, Then I was threatened by a caucasian woman that they were going to call the police... I then left the White Castle and called the police myself and got a incident number for the report... I just don't know why he lied like that.... I am under the assumption that due to me being a hispanic minority he didn't believe me and made up a lie to back up his accusations.. I still have my receipt and if he gave me the food already and has my plate number then me and my vehicle should be on their survelliance cameras which I am 150% sure its not...cause I was never there prior to today and the original date of purchase...

Please help me with any advice or measures to take to prevent this from happening to any other innocent customers... I have posted numerous reives and also filed a complaint with BBB.. I will be contacting the corporate office Monday morning as well..... Thank you for listening and any help would be very much appreciated.....

I understand how upsetting this was, but it sounds like he just made a mistake. He definitely should have apologized for wrongly accusing you.
trmn8r on 2011-11-28:
It's a darned shame that this had to result in yelling. The man should have apologized for making a mistake, and also for yelling at you. That location is barely a few weeks old, and their rosey smiles and goodwill whouldn't have worn off already.

Caucasians in Whitehall? That's to be expected you know - the people who named their kids Hiltler and Aryan got the Adolf's birthday cake here in Easton.
Skye on 2011-11-28:
It was a mistake on his part. What more do you want them to do? They apologized, and now you know to avoid that particular location, for giving them your business.

CowboyFan on 2011-11-28:
Part of the problem is waiting a week to obtain replacement food that has been verbally promised over the telephone. The longer one waits the more problems that arise.

The cooking at these places is automatic. I would assume the timer/heat/cooker was not properly set so that food came out uncooked/undercooked. You may not have been the only one who got uncooked food and a promise of replacement food. Obviously the employee got you confused with another customer who had come in earlier that week to get replacement food for their uncooked meal. He should not have yelled at you, but quit when you told him otherwise. Certainly does not seem like a place to go back to.

Ontario Spruce Pre-Lit Christmas Tree Not Natural Looking as Advertised

Rating: 2/51
FRESNO, RHODE ISLAND -- I received my pre-lit Ontario Spruce 7.5 ft. tree sooner than expected, that was good.
Spent a long time fluffing it and there were still too many gaps.
I grew up in Ontario and have always loved the look of those trees but the tree I received did not come close in color or shape to a spruce tree. The spruce trees in Ontario are a silvery, bluish green -this one is very dark green in color. The tree tips are life like but are very short-so you see the rest of the branches that do not look natural. also had a hard time getting it back into its box and was told when I called Tree Classic that I should have ordered a bag for storage .Duh--why wasn't I told that when I bought it? I would not recommend buying from this company. .

Poor Service/Poor Product

4023 E. U.S. RT. 31, CLARKSVILLE / MERCHANT, INDIANA -- My order was taken and after 17 minutes in the line, I was asked to pull up to the crave parking and my order would be brought out to me. I set here for another 19 minutes and because I was going to be late for work, I finally went in the building myself and asked if I could either have my order or my money. The lady at the counter passed me on to the manager. She asked what my order was and I told her; she then asked the lady cooking and she said they were working. The manager told me they would be right up. I waited another 3 minutes before the order was handed to me. The total time I spent waiting for the order was 39 minutes which caused me to be late for work, because I was late I lost my perfect record for the quarter, this in turn lost me my quarterly bonus of $100.00. am I pissed, hell yeah; and to top it off when I opened my order, I only had 1 piece of cheese on all my burgers, no mustard at all, and half of them had pickle, this only added insult to injury.

Yes I want people to know that fast food drive through's are not fast. The original design for drive through's was to be convenient and fast for consumers. This is no longer true.

I never use drive thrus. The concept is a huge energy waste - cars in line with engines running, also polluting the air.

Personally, I wish they would be outlawed. Health would increase as a side effect.
onlooker on 2013-03-28:
That is unfortunate, but you had 38 minutes to decide to walk and drive away. You were late because you chose to wait, did not want to give up your money and the service was glacial.
Walk out - you got a bad breakfast and lost your 100.00 - was it worth the 7.00 bad food?
It seems unreal, that it took so long. But don't waste your time again there, or if you really can't change your morning routine, arrive earlier?
JAKFK on 2013-03-28:
While the original intent of the drive-through was for speed and convenience, the problem is that more and more folks are using the drive-through in place of pre-cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner at home. More people eating out and driving through equates to longer lines and wait times.
Nohandle on 2013-03-28:
No one pulls into a drive through knowing ahead of time it will be a 39 minute wait. I've been there myself when there was no way out. The building on one side and a barrier on the other. There you are stuck and blowing the horn won't help because some behind me have tried that and I wondered where they thought I could go. Frustrating to say the least.

You've paid your money and can't get out of the line. It aggravates me beyond word. Perhaps that's part of the reason I steer clear quite often.
biomajor on 2013-03-28:
White Castle doesn't put mustard on their burgers. That is Krystal. I would not have waited that long to go in and check. I could have cooked a whole meal in that time LOL
JAKFK on 2013-03-28:
NoHandle> I too share that frustration. I rolled through a Panda Express drive through just to see if they carried egg drop soup. The drive through was lined on both sides by cement curbs, making it impossible to leave (once I found out they don't carry it). Stuck in line, without the ability to drive away is EXTREMELY frustrating! Especially, when you've already paid for something.
DebtorBasher on 2013-03-28:
JAKFK, Drive through service is NOT your friend!

People, this fast food crap is no good for you.
Most of the claims on this board are about fast food restaurants. Learn how to cook and make your own meals, you'll feel better, you'll know what's going into your food and you'll also save money not to mention you might live a few years longer.
wjk898 on 2013-03-29:
biomajor: You can request mustard or ketchup or both or whatever and they'll put 'em together the way you request it.
biomajor on 2013-03-29:
wjk898 yes, that is true, but nothing says that they requested them differently. Krystal puts mustard on automatically, White Castle just has yummy onions. :) If the hold up in line is for mustard, it would have been easier to just ask for mustard packets. They have 2 different kinds to choose from :)
onlooker on 2013-03-30:
****up to the crave parking and my order would be brought out to me.

this means the ability to get out of the parking lot. The consumer was not stuck in the drive through channel.

White Castle Frozen Cheeseburgers... Bravo!
Posted by on
To add something positive to this site, I recently impulse bought a box of White Castle frozen cheeseburgers. We all know buying frozen burgers of any sort is a no-no, but I was very pleasantly surprised. These tasted the same as Krystal's burgers (we don't have White Castle where I live), and the same as the limited memory I have from White Castles as a child. You have to nuke these tasty treats a few seconds longer than recommended on the box to get them to a decent temperature, but the bun comes out soft and sweet, and while the cheese to meat ratio is a little high, it somehow works in a blissful manner. I highly recommend these treats to those of you with the White Castle munchies, and at $5 for 6 yummy little burgers it's totally worth it.

I've forgotten the story behind Krystal/White Castle. I honestly don't remember if it was one partner decided to start his own franchise or what but it's my understanding both franchises work the same. The products look identical. I'll give those recommended a try. It's nice to have something in the freezer for one of those cold, rainy days you don't want to leave the house. What could be easier?
Venice09 on 2012-01-11:
I remember when you could get six White Castle burgers for a Dollar! I haven't had one in so long that I have no memory of what they taste like. Based on this review, maybe I'll try the frozen ones since I no longer live near a White Castle.
Starlord on 2012-01-12:
I worked for White Castle after getting out of high school, and can tell you without hesitation that there is not and never has been any connection between WC and Krystal. Krystal is a copy of WC. The frozen burgers are okay, but nothing matches the taste of a slider fresh off the grill. TIP: when heating your frozen burger, add a dill pickle cip after nuking. Pickles do not freeze or microwave well, and it really adds to the taste. Also, add a bit of spicy brown mustard for the complete delight. White Castle used to buy their mustard from Sysco, but now they give you those plastic packets of French's mustard, and it just ain't the same. Bon appetit!

I too have never eaten at, nor seen a White Castle...at least not that I can ever remember. Perhaps I'll pull a Harold & Kumar someday?

I said NO pickles
Posted by on
I'm a little puzzled by the White Castle System in the drive through. I placed my order and specifically asked for NO pickles on my sliders. So, the nice man taking my order asked me to confirm the order on the screen was correct and it WAS. So, when I get the sliders home guess what - you guessed it pickles. How can there be a flaw in such a ideal way of placing a drive through order. Oh well, even though I got it right they didn't.

I never called the store to complain. This site is so much better.

At one time I would have agreed that White Castle is the taste some can't live without. However, one trip to Richmond, IN broke me of my lifelong belief in the castle. Since Uncle Billy died, whoever took over has run it straight into the ground. The White Castle in Richmond is in a convenience store/gas station, for Pete's sake. When Uncle Billy was at the helm, White Castle built their own free-standing buildings. They had a great spicy brown mustard they got from Sysco. Now, they give you those blasted individual packets of French's Fancy Yellow mustard, Yeccchhhhh! The frozen burgers we get on the west coast have no pickle and are poor imitations of the sliders I grew up on and proudly served when I worked for White Castle fresh out of high school. But at least with the frozen burgers I get to put Gulden's on them.
DebtorBasher on 2009-05-30:

Why make it complicated? Just get it as is and take the pickles off. How hard is that? 9 times out of 10 they will get you wrong if you want it out of the norm. Just get it the way it comes and it will ALWAYS be right.

Wrong Food Order

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY -- I ordered and paid for White Castle burgers with cheese. The burgers did not have cheese. When I brought it back in to the restaurant they refused to remake my food they tried to put cold cheese on my burger. So I asked for a refund. It has been six weeks, I still have not received my refund. Very dissatisfied with the customer service.

ARNOLD, MISSOURI -- There were only two other people when we entered the restaurant, so they were not busy. We ordered double cheese burgers that were cold. We also ordered cheese fries that were under cooked. Then I went to eat my chicken sandwich and the bun was crunchy like it had been sitting. Needless to say we won't be eating there anymore! To top it all off the soda was even flat!

Steam Those Burgers!

VAN DYKE AVE, MICHIGAN -- Several trips to this White Castle in the last 2 months have resulted in less than acceptable burgers. They are not steaming these burgers such that they have less taste and the onions are dry, the patties are fragmented. This is not the way you prepare White Castles. Steaming is half of it. The personnel at the window are friendly. But the burgers suck. Let's get this act together. I will boycott this White Castle until they remedy this problem.

I grew up on the South side of Chicago and had White Castle all the time. The people who worked there knew what White Castles were supposed to taste like and knew how to make them. I now live about 60 miles outside the city and my nearest White Castle is in DeKalb, IL. The people who work there clearly did not grow up eating at White Castle and have no clue as to how they are supposed to taste, its just another burger joint to them. I never worked at a WC , but I seem to know more about how the burgers are supposed to be cooked than they do. The DeKalb WC also turns their milk shake machine off at 8:00PM! Really,? Do you have any clue what White Castle is? White Castle should be a 24 Hr a day order anything on the menu restaurant (except breakfast items at non breakfast times). Don't get me started, this is something I am passionate about. LOL
klp898 on 2013-10-14:
Don't get me started! I remember when WC started to expand their territory in the 1980's and had openend one in Anderson, IN. Bah. Something wasn't right. I happened to talk to someone from Columbus OH who told me that first, that was where headquarters was. Secondly, the WC's you got in Indy were not the not-frozen ones that you got in Columbus and Detroit and some other places (because of transport distance and volume). How right that was. Definitely a different taste in Indy then in Detroit and Columbus. They are probably all frozen process nowadays but even this WC used to do 'em as right as they could. You got it right when you said "just another hamburger joint." At this location I think the person in charge is probably the one thinking that way. They were quite good at this location until this summer.
