EUSTIS, FLORIDA -- The young bag boy & female checkout clerk talked to each other the whole time I was checking out. They talked about their schedule, what time they were getting off today, how many hours they would work today, what time they were coming to work tomorrow...you get the idea. It's 95 degrees in Florida & I had to ask him to double-bag the ice cream after he had thrown it in with everything else in a single bag. This store has been slowly going downhill... Where are the managers?!

Tore Rotator Cuff Out Of Shoulder, After Falling In Water at Winn-Dixie!
By -

ALABAMA -- I am a 58 year old white female who lives in Alabama. On Sept.12-04, I slipped and fell in water at the meat counter, tearing my rotator cuff out of my shoulder. They told me they would pay all my bills, they lied! They mopped up all the water, and put up 3 wet signs after I had fallen. I have been completely disabled since Sep 12, and they don't care. I had to have surgery on No.19th for the torn rotator cuff, about the size of a silver dollar. I am still on pain medication today for it, and therapy. I had to be hospitalized after surgery for infection had set up in it.

They are self insured, and they did approve of a few of my bills at first, then when they found out I had to have surgery, that stopped. They had to cut about a 4-inch incision on my shoulder, and I nearly died from the pain of having the bone cut, and still suffering! After refusing to pay my bills, I attained a lawyer who is now helping me. The bills have run around $25,000-$30,000, and we had to file under our insurance, so I could have surgery.

Thank God I had some insurance! I had been shopping there for 5 years before this happened, and enjoyed it. But, I would not recommend Winn-Dixie to anyone anymore. The pain and suffering I have gone through was the worst pain I had ever incurred in my life! Most of all, everyone kept telling me at Winn-Dixie that they would pay all my bills, well they have not paid anything!!! We are paying on the accounts, $50.00 -$100 a month until a settlement is reached, if it ever is! It is certainly not a nice company, with lots of lying going on.

I just hope if anyone else falls because of their carelessness that they have some type of insurance, because no thanks to Winn-Dixie, I Had to wait until from Sept 12-04 - Nov.19-04 until I could have surgery. I just lay in the bed and had to knock myself out with pain medication. Anyway, I will no longer shop there, because of their bad tactics.

No Sale Items and Poor Customer Service
By -

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA -- First, my wife and I are Winn Dixie Members. On Thursday, my wife and I went to the Monument RD Winn Dixie in hopes to take advantage of the new sales which began the day prior. We had hoped to specifically get at least $100.00 in meat. When we got there, all meat specials except Sirloin Steaks which looked poor to say the least, were gone. There was no $.68/lb roasters, there was no $5.99 Boneless New York Strip Steaks, and there were no Porterhouse or T-Bones.

As we were not the only individuals in search of meat, many of us summoned the butcher who advised that they just did not have any. They were sold out. And this is not even two full days into Winn Dixie's sale. Now, as this happens to us on a frequent basis at this store, I asked the butcher who we could speak to about this issue. He obtained the store manager, ** who proved himself to be arrogant and showed no signs of sympathy. He said they just had been too busy. His only help to us was to call the Winn Dixie complaint line. This, and nothing more.

Winn Dixie, this store specifically, should be able to use prior statistics to help in the ordering of meat. It doesn't take much education to know that people are going to buy meat that is half the usual price. My wife and I also experience this in the grocery side as well. Sales with no sale products. It makes shopping quite frustrating, especially when we try and buy our meat only from Winn Dixie.

Unfortunately, we placed all our grocery items back on the shelves and went elsewhere. If customers are no longer a driving force for Winn Dixie, and if Management can provide no other assistance than what we received, we may have to consider another grocery store. Winn Dixie, you would think with the financial woes the company is bearing that it would want to be helpful to its customers. Apparently Store # 0054 in Jacksonville has another idea. Or perhaps Management should brush up on their people skills.

Honor Your Ad Prices and Don't Argue With the Customer.

VERO BEACH, FLORIDA -- I went into my local Winn Dixie to buy meat today because their ad showed some really good prices. First item was chicken thighs. The ad stated they were supposed to be $1.29 a pound. All of the packages were marked $1.99 a pound. I asked a meat cutter if I could get the correct price on the package. I was told there was no reason to remark it, it would ring up correctly at the front.

Second was a package of pork loin chops. The ad stated it was supposed to be $1.99 a lb. This time had hubby go to the service desk and get a price check, it rang up incorrectly. He was told it couldn't be fixed there, he had to go back to the meat department and have them reprice it. Meat guy told us we had the wrong item. I pulled out the ad, said the names match. He went to the meat manager who was in an office again at the front of the store. Meat manager said we did indeed have pork loin chops but the ones on sale were thinker. The case only had 2 packages at the sale price and they were very large.

I insisted that since it said pork loin chops, we get them at the correct price or they make a smaller more affordable package. Finally he said "heck with it while", cussing under his breath - repriced the package as a clearance package. He then threw it at my husband saying "take this you cheap jerk and please never come back while I'm clocked in."

I called the home office customer service number. After waiting 12 minutes on hold, was told the incident was written down - was given a claim number and told the district manager would call me. Needless to say not holding my breath and not going back.

False Promotions
By -

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA -- I have been a patron of Winn Dixie stores for several years. I, along with several other customers in the New Orleans East area are totally dissatisfied with the false advertisement of the promotion concerning discounted gas at Shell gas stations. As customers we have been alluded to believe that when money is spent at Winn Dixie stores, that we would receive discounts in gas per gallon at Shell gas stations. We are being told that for certain amounts spent that it would knock off five cents per gallon. When you have accumulated enough you are then entitled to receive discounts from Shell gas stations.

Just today I went to five Shell gas stations that would not honor the agreement of discounted gas per gallon. What a joke! Each of the Shell gas stations came up with a different excuse. For example, our debit/credit machine is not working. I am expected to be gullible enough to believe that the debit machines at every Shell station I pull up to is down. If this is not to be blamed on, our local astronomically high priced Winn Dixie, then whose fault is it? I plan on contacting the Better Business Bureau and whomever else I can complain to. Believe that! I get it. Shell Gas Stations don't want to lose money.

On my Winn Dixie receipt it says I have earned 85 cents off of every gallon. The reward points end at the end of every month. The going price for gas at Shell stations is on an average of $2.74 per gallon. Quite naturally, Shell gas stations would not want to give me the gas for $1.89 as I so deserve. Patrons please beware! This is a scam. After making my phone calls I will let the world know the outcome of this scam. Shame on you Winn Dixie and Shell gas stations!

Stolen Reward Points
By -

OAKLAND PARK/FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- Recently Winn Dixie promoted their "Earn Reward Points and get a gift card". Well I earned well over the 700 points needed to get the $30 off your grocery bill but today when I went to shop and get my $30 off they informed me that I already used it, but I did not. They told me to call the 800 # on top of the receipt, so I did that and they informed me that someone used my phone number last night at 8:30 and continued to say that someone in my household probably used it - I told her that was not possible it's just me and my husband and we were at home eating dinner at 8:30 last night.

After listening to her go on and on accusing my family, I finally told her that I believe the cashiers are behind this. She just about blew a gasket, it was fine to go on and on accusing my family but "Oh heavens, no, it couldn't be one of their employees." I figured that I would call and talk to the manager of the store and explain what I had been told, of course I got the 'blow-off'. The lady at the 800 # had given me the date, time and cashiers initials that checked that person (crook) out, now you can't tell me that in less than 24 hrs. He couldn't have gone back on the tapes and actually seen the person using my reward points.

Don't get me wrong, I realize this is only $30 but it's the point of it and I am wanting to know if this is happening to anyone else? Just within the last hour and a half I have spoke with someone at my daughters school and they have had it happen to them. And you may ask "What is Winn Dixie going to do?" ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Pls. write if this has happened to you!

Manager responded, store well-organized, presentation of products excellent

HAINES CITY, FLORIDA -- I have been shopping at the Haines City, FL, Winn Dixie since it was built. I live in Lakeland but shop weekly for my mom who lives next door at Southern Dunes. Today when we shopped, the reorganization was very convenient, the aisles were spacious and free of special items, the deli and meat counters were free of "stuff," and the deli items were beautifully presented. The store looked great!!

I had a problem with the deli. Mom and I wanted about eight servings of deli items. There was no one to be found. We waited. I called. I hollered. I went back into the service area and called. This was at least 5 minutes of trying to find someone to help us. It included the meat area. No one was there! Finally, an employee came out and was very curt. "What do you want? Do you want something else?" She was angry that I was even there. She offered no apology for not being available.

I talked to the manager, **. He was wonderful. I complimented him on the store's organization and the beautiful presentation of the deli items. I said that I had shopped there as long as the store existed and this was the best I had ever seen it. I explained the problem at the deli, not being able to find anyone to help me and the attitude of the employee. I said that if it had been only my shopping involved, I would have left, but my mother wanted some items. He apologized and offered me a gift card several times. I said I appreciated the offer but did not want a gift card; I just wanted the problem fixed.

I said that it is a shame to have such a beautifully displayed deli and have an employee who is not there and when she is there has such an attitude. He was very understanding. I compliment **!! I and my mother (95) also compliment whoever is responsible for eliminating the clutter of counters and aisles (Publix is bad about this). It makes shopping much more enjoyable.

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA -- My body pound was 250. Am only 5'5" tall. Being as fat as I was, depression logged in and I began to cry a lot. Most people saw me as a ** fat American round man. And so I was [nick] named, (Round Fellow), until I meet a wonderful, caring, unprejudiced ** American employee of Winn Dixie in west palm beach, FL., on South Dixie and Gregory Rd., name, **. He encouraged me to start walking from my house to Winn Dixie, which is 3.9 miles. As I continued to make the one hours and thirty minutes long walk, ** would walk me around the store and pick out some healthy foods for me to buy. Then other employees took noticed and join in helping me to lose weight.

** in the fish department, ** in the meat department and this big tall caring guy name **. I think in the meat department, another ** that does stocking that gave me advice on can goods. They all pitched in helping me. Nearly each day other employees began to notice me as I come into the store and weighted myself on the large scale. The employees would ask, 'How are things going with your weight?' They made me feel like shopping at Winn Dixie forever. But ** is the best. Thank you for hiring such an outstanding guy. Employees like ** keeps not only customers like me coming back but others as well.

From 250 pounds, thanks to ** who started me to lose weight, my weight is now, 197 pounds. And I also give thanks to the managers that took notice and along with the employees under them. You may call me at; **. Also the manager in the bakery, well she would let me cheat a little and we didn't let ** know. She can bake some d good muffin. My god she is good. And ** in your florist department, she went out of her way, to have her mother at home to look up information about, Lip Stick Plaints for me. My plant is doing great thanks to her. Thank you Winn Dixie for hiring not only caring people but smart ones as well.

Employees Actions Should Lead to Dismissal
By -

I am writing this complaint in re: to my concerns over security as well as the actions or non-actions of your employees. The store I'm referring to is at Gunn Highway near the intersection of Anderson Rd and is managed by a Mr. **. Be aware of the fact that I am (or was, depending on what happens next) a loyal long time customer of your store and spent the majority of my $225 per week grocery budget in your store(s).

Oh My, Gosh... You have a MAJOR problem in your store. I tried to go shopping but ended up leaving without buying anything due to one of your employees cussing out (meaning using the "F" word several times) a customer who was talking on a cell phone. He also ripped off his shirt all the while saying, "Who the ** do you think your are?" The man said, "I am her father and all I want is your word that you and your friends will not continue to harass my step-daughter!"

Your employee then said, "Come on **, I will kick your... " The man told him he was going to report him to the manager. The shirtless guy kept cussing and started moving closer to the other guy. I Left the area and the store because I thought he was going to physically attack the other guy. On the way out I overheard a male and female employee talking, could've been about something else, but I believe it was about what was happening between the two men. Female said, "All the guy wants is for that jerk to stop harassing his step-daughter!" Male replied, "My man Mike can't help it, he's a player!"

Here's what I'd like Winn-Dixie Stores to do: Your employee was loud and his voice could be heard several aisles away. There were a fair amount of people in the store and that included employees. I didn't see any signs that anyone (manager, security, etc.) was going to that aisle to investigate what was happening. You are responsible for the safety of customers on your premises. I no longer feel safe in your store because that one of your employees' behavior was allowed to go unchecked.

I was in your store at around 8:45 p.m. on 05/07/05. The employee is a hispanic young man by the name of Mike (I looked at his name tag as it went sliding across the floor after he tore off his shirt). I will not return to your store while Mike remains in your employ. I Thank you for taking the time to read and know that you will make things right.

Apathy
By -

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA -- The topic line says it all. I am a new poster to this site, and I had to sign up to get this off of my chest. Winn-Dixie is a horrible company. I would not recommend it to customers nor would I offer my position to anyone looking for a job. What I would do, however, is point them across the street to... you guessed it... Publix. I worked at Winn-Dixie a few years ago, and it actually was not that bad. Granted, the company "forget" my raises a few times, and (whoops!) the office girls conveniently messed up my tills on several occasions causing me to be taken off of the schedule more than once. That sort of thing can be overlooked.

However, the Winn-Dixie where I presently work in Gainesville, Florida is a complete and utter joke. If I can even get the registers to run at any given time during the day, it's a miracle... and finding an out-of-date product on the shelf is an everyday adventure. I listen to complaints about our dirty store and rude employees every day at the service desk. I give refunds for bad meat, opened products, etc. constantly, and I cannot begin to describe to you how tired I am of hearing that the price is SUPPOSED to be 1.79 when the product is ringing up 5.49.

Why does all of this happen? Apathy. From the highest position down to the carryout clerks, nobody seems to care about the consumer anymore. Am I the only one who is willing to dust the candy machines? Can anyone else spot mop? What is the problem? If I can make 6.00 an hour and still be willing to do my part plus more, why can't anyone else hold their own? In addition to this, the company does not operate properly. They used to give raises based on experience, how well an employee works, etc. Now, it's once a year within a specified range, and JoeBob who won't even sweep the floor will get a raise for letting me do all his work just because he's in with the store manager.

However, I haven't had time to get in with my store manager because we've gone through four different ones in a matter of months. What a superb company you have become, Winn-Dixie. I know that life is not fair or just. That's reality... and Winn-Dixie truly is "the real deal."
