WOW! Great Pumpkin Spice scented candle
Posted by on
Last week while looking at sale priced candles at Target, I came across their new display of Yankee Candle Home Classics fall scents.

The Pumpkin Spice smelled wonderful in the jar, so much so that I was willing to pay full price ($24), something I rarely do.

All I can say is WOW. I have burned this candle for a total of 15-18 hours so far and the scent is still as fresh and intense as it was the first time. It fills the whole room and lingers for hours.

This is a terrific fall scent and well worth the price. It's a 22 ounce jar and the sticker on the bottom says approximate burn time 110-150 hours.

I'm sure the candles smell great on their own, but I can't walk by the Yankee Candle store at the mall without having a sneezing fit! I might be better off looking at them in a store like Target where the aromas aren't so concentrated. Pumpkin Spice sounds wonderful. I'll check it out the next time I'm in Target!
raven2010 on 2010-09-11:
I agree, Venice. I love these candles, but cannot get near the store, or White barn Candle Company, for the same reason.

I have this scent too. Love it. If you think the Yankee Candle store is bad, have you ever heard of Lush. That place stinks so bad that I'm wondering who can even go in it to shop. I know I walked by one not too long ago--I think in Boston. Ugh.

I love Yankee candles, and I like to use their tarts. I know what I'm buying this weekend. Thanks for the review, Raven!
Venice09 on 2010-09-11:
I thought it was just me because I'm very sensitive to smells and also have allergies. It's good to know I'm not the only one who avoids these stores. I can't imagine having to work in one.
Anonymous on 2010-09-11:
I wonder if you can even smell anything after working at one of these places? Either that, or the fragrances get imbedded in your nose and that's all you can smell! I'm with you Venice. My allergies would most definitely revolt.

Dryad, I've seen the tarts but have never used them. Now I have to give them a try. Thanks!
raven2010 on 2010-09-11:
LOL Dryad, now I am digging around on eBay looking for good tart deals!
Anonymous on 2010-09-11:
I have 3 tart burners. I love them, because the tarts last a really long time, and tealights are inexpensive.
Venice09 on 2010-09-11:
The employees probably do get used to the smell, and they probably aren't sensitive to smells to begin with. But it's definitely not for me. I don't like walking by the perfume counters in department stores either. If anyone comes near me with a spritzer, I run!
raven2010 on 2010-09-11:
The last time I attempted to shop in a Yankee Candle store, I ended up with my allergies so aggravated, I had an asthma attack.

They use a lot of natural oils that are very concentrated. I LOVE a lot of their scents, just not all at once in a small, enclosed area.
Anonymous on 2010-09-11:
Ah, the spritzer people. No can do that either. Plus, after working in a medical office for so many years where cologne/perfume was prohibited, I realize how invasive of people's space it is, not to mention allergic reactions. But, a nice scented candle at home--that's just right.
Venice09 on 2010-09-11:
I wish more people would realize that, sing, even men. I know people have the right to wear fragrances, but when you know you're going to be around a lot of people in an enclosed area, at least don't overdo it. It's one of the reasons I avoid theatres where I know I won't be able to move or change my seat.

Sounds great Raven! Now I know what candle scent to buy for the fall.
jktshff1 on 2010-09-11:
good post Raven, thanks

I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin, but I do love their other scents. The candles are pricey, but worth it because they last
Anonymous on 2010-09-11:
(VH) Raven but as a guy I would never buy that crud. I just get out the old febreze bottle and its good enough for me.
Anonymous on 2010-09-11:
Wally, you mean when you cook that romantic dinner for me there will be NO candles?
raven2010 on 2010-09-11:
LOL@wally!!

And thanx for all your comments, everyone.
MRM on 2010-09-11:
Everyone has commented except for me! Thanks to Raven's glowing review, I will be picking up scented candles at Yankee Candle to seduce the ladies. No homo...

MADISONVILLE, KENTUCKY -- I've been a customer of Yankee Candle for well over twelve years. With our recent move to Madisonville, there are no stores around here that carry this brand of scented candle.

Their candles are a little on the expensive side, but they burn longer and smell better than the cheaper scented candles and oil plug-ins that you can purchase at retail chain stores.

Their Housewarmer Jar candles are true to life scented and are very good at helping get rid of smells like, who was the last person in the bathroom and remind me not to make that for dinner again, why does the bedroom smell like the mens' locker room, and my favorite who hid the potato in the computer desk.

They also have electric home air fresheners that are safer to put in places where you should not burn candles, like the nursery to get rid of that eau de diaper pail smell and in the laundry room to help with dirty coal miner's clothes. As well as Car Jars to help with long road trips and the aftermath of fast food for dinner.

Their website is easy to use and has a note next to each product letting you see the availability of the items that you want to purchase. I find that's very helpful when shopping for gifts for relatives and friends so that you don't buy something that is going to be back ordered.

All in all its a great company, their customer service is top notch. I called once because one of my candles was damaged when I received it and got a new one sent to me the next day along with a pre-paid box and shipping label to send the damaged one back.

So if you are in the market for some candles or pretty stuff to make your house smell nice, check them out!

I have a friend who is the regional manager in the mid-west for Yankee Candle. He is a wealth of trivia about their products. The best tip he gave me is when you have kids with you, and they want to smell the candles, you don't give them the (heavy) candle to hold, you give them the lid to sniff. The scent you get when you sniff the lid is exactly the scent you will get when you burn the candle.
Principissa on 2007-09-12:
Great tip Ken! I'm also loving those new magazines they came out with that have a little spot on certain candles that you rub and sniff. It's great for their new scents that they came out with this fall.

Very well written and good review, Principissa. Don't y'all just love the reviews that are an easy read.

Yeah, Yankee Candles is a life saver come Christmas. My sister in-law loves Yankee Candles but she is so frugal she squeezes a nickel till Jefferson has an aneurysm. That being the case she never buys them herself cause she can't get past the sticker shock. Which leaves Stew with a perfect gift for the hard to shop for fussy brother's wife.

In the OKC metro Bed, Bath & Beyond and Cracker Barrel sell Yankee Candles. Principissa thanks for the excellent review!
Principissa on 2007-09-12:
Stew they have an offer going right now where when you buy 2 housewarmer jar candles you get one free. I bought four this morning and paid 15.17 for each candle. I saved 35.28 on my order. Check out their website and get some early shopping done! And aneurysm!! lol she reminds me of my mom.

I like the Country Linen and Spiced Pumpkin. I can't wait to burn the new Fall Festival scent I ordered.

Good review, we are candle people and have them everywhere, will give them a try.
Anonymous on 2007-09-12:
My wife has these candle wax "waffles" you put them in a holder, and burn a tea candle underneath.
The cranberry, and sugar cookie candles rock
Ponie on 2007-09-12:
I agree 100%, Principissa! Even though a little higher in price, they're well worth it. Once had a client come in while I was burning one that smelled like an apple pie or something similar. The client commented, 'Ooooh. Someone's baking an apple pie.' Yeah--sure. Only oven I use is a microwave, and haven't found a pie to bake in there yet. :)

Good review.
Principissa on 2007-09-12:
Thanks Ponie! Actually they have these pies in the freezer section and my sister put one in the toaster oven and it came out fine.

These candles do last forever too. I'm also a fan. Thanks for the nice write-up. Going back to the NW in a few weeks and it reminds me that I'll need to get some new ones when I get home!
