Best Buy Complaint - Would Not Redeem Gift Certificates
SCHAUMBURG, IL, ILLINOIS -- Recently I received two Best Buy gift certificates from my sister for my birthday. She lives in Miami and purchased them in Miami. I went to use them in the Schaumburg-based Best Buy and was turned away because the clerk said they were having computer problems. Each certificate had the amount on it for $30/each, so there was no question of how much they were worth, yet they would not let me use them. I asked if I could see the manager, and she told me she was the manager, and that the only way they would accept them was if I got the receipts. Since they were a gift (ie - GIFT CERTIFICATE!) I obviously did not have the receipt. Fortunately my sister had kept the receipt, and faxed it to me so I could use these Best Buy gift certificates.
In the future, I think they should tell you up front that you will need your receipt to redeem these... Either that or change their policies around accepting them. I had to waste hours of my time just to cash in $60 bucks in certificates.
You would think a company as big as Best Buy would prefer to keep a customer over $60. Since the dispute I now shop at Circuit City.
