Sears Kenmore Complaint - Noxious odor coming from the bottom of my refrigerator

Review by brown57kat4 on 2011-06-11
Within the past 30 or more years I have owned many different makes of refrigerators and had not had an odor problem. I purchased a Kenmore Elite refrigerator in 2006 and now there is a noxious, nauseating, foul smell coming from underneath the refrigerator where the fan blows out air. A representative from the service department told me that Sears does not send out technicians to check odors, and for me to move the refrigerator and check for a dead animal or food underneath, or drippings from food underneath the refrigerator, and that most likely this was the problem. I keep an immaculate house and I pay a private pest control company to prevent any animal and insect problems. The representative reiterated that Sears will not come out for an odor problem. When I turned to the Internet for help with the problem, I read numerous reports from people who experienced the exact problem. I learned that the drip pan is non-removable and that putting bleach into the drip pan would kill the bacteria and/or mold that was causing the problem. This is a major flaw in the design of this appliance, and, furthermore, in the future when I need another appliance I will be purchasing a European one.

My first thought was the same as the Sears rep. It wouldn't hurt to check.
