Realtors on HGTV shows Complaint - Some Realtors give the rest of us a bad rep!
As a retired realtor, I'm extremely disappointed in most of the realtors who R shown on HGTV's shows. As in all real estate matters, their commission is negotiable; however, they never seem 2 suggest that they will reduce their commission 2 sellers, or buyers who R having a hard time negotiating 4 a sale. I just watched a young, first-time couple of sellers on HGTV's "My First Sale" show who had 2 sell their house 4 $109K. Their realtor took a whopping $9K commission on the sale. That's highway robbery!!! The very LEAST that realtor could have done would have been 2 decrease her $9K commission to $7K. $9K was way above the normal 5-6% commission. Every realtor is required by law 2 do everything that is required by law 4 a real estate transaction. This disadvantaged couple were told 2 make all of these changes 2 the house & backyard (at their cost); told 2 lower the price TWICE!!!; and still had 2 pay some of the buyer's closing costs; plus, had 2 offer the buyer additional money 2 repair everything the inspector documented that was needing attention. I'm really upset that HGTV airs these shows where the realtor is such a GREEDY human being. This poor couple walked away from the closing table having 2 pay $5,100 out of pocket expenses.
Plus, they had 2 pay 4 their new home in Harrisburg, NC, & all of those costs, 2! The same realtor who leached $9K out of them on their house they sold, also, was their buyers' realtor; so, she received half of the commission on the new house. Come on realtors--your final reward should be a mansion in Heaven--NOT unempathetic experiences here on Earth!!!
