Sears Complaint - Stocking and Home Delivery
MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE -- On June 6, 2011 I called Sears to cancel a call I made to get someone out to check my hot water heater. There was no use paying a $70 trip charge when I needed a new tank. The person on the phone said I could order right on the phone. She had me to give her my water tank model number and called up all the information from her records, which showed it as a 50 gallon unit. She took the order by phone and I felt good that I did not have to drive anywhere to get it. Two days later the hired delivery service arrived at my house. He looked at my old water heater and went back to the truck. He then informed my that the water heater sent out was a 55 gallon heater and not the required 50 gallon. It was too big in diameter to fit my space. I went to the store to pick the water heater myself, so that I could measure it. I placed a new order at the store, and they said it would be delivered on 6/10. The next day the delivery service called me to tell me that it would not be delivered until the 13th. I cancelled the order and told them to credit my card. That was the 2nd cancellation, this time because I needed to get a tank sooner than they had offered. When I was on the phone with Sears the person that I talked to said she was sorry about my having to be without hot water for so long. She said she would cancel it and asked if she could search for a water heater for me. I okayed that and she looked and looked and finally said she found a water heater that would suit me needs. She said it was in stock and she waould make sure I got it without having to wait until later than the 10th. I gave her my card number. The unit did not arrive on the 10th as promised. The delivery service called me on the 13th (today) and asked if they could pick up the tank and head for my house. After being without hot water for ten days I said yes to go ahead. About an hour later they called and said Sears did not have the water heater in stock. I was almost livid!! I had to go to Sears, about a 35 mile drive to cancel the order. I told them that was my last time trying to get anything delivered from Sears. It has been 10 days since my original heater ruptured. I went to Home Depot and got my water heater. I will never buy anything from Sears that I cannot walk out of the store with in my hand.
