Hotels/Resort Informative - Extra fees

Review by lunarrob3 on 2011-06-14
When making reservations lately, I am finding many hotels are now calling themselves ( Resorts ) what a laugh. Okay these hotels may be located in Las Vegas or on the Beach somewhere, even maybe in the Mountains, but not all hotels are resorts.

Hotels these days are now charging higher prices for parking at the hotels than Airlines are charging for parking in airport parking garages. I have stayed at one only to find out the next morning I had a parking fee of $25.00 what a shock. Then in addition, the hotel also charged me a, what they call a Resort fee, which covers the use of the spa, pool, and gym NONE of which I used. The saddest thing I think is the larger hotels are charging for the use of Internet, where most smaller Motels/Hotels the Internet is free. By the time one walks away from their stay, they have paid another 3rd on the cost of their room.

I say, when making reservations via phone ask, if online call the hotel first and ask these questions. What are the parking fees if any ? Is there a Resort fee? And weather or not the Internet is free. Internet fees alone are sometimes the cost of an extra person, or worse one might have to sign up for the local internet service and cancel later or be charged a Monthly or Annual fee, and getting out of these Internet services is like pulling ones on teeth, Painful.

Been there, ya gotta read the fine print. Little things, example: the St Louis area hotels are required to provide a room safe which is a $1.00 or $1.50 charge....however, if you tell them you did not use it they must deduct the charge...I'm sure there are others, but ya gotta do your homework.

I always ask "How much money are you going to charge me, ALL INCLUSIVE, for each night that I stay here?" When they say "$109.95 plus tax." I repeat the above question. And I keep repeating it until I get absolute cost.
