Sprint Complaint - Sneaky Price Increase...
In the not too distant past, Sprint introduced the EVO phone which had a 4G data feature. If you chose this phone, there was a fee of an additional $10 for 4G data. As they rolled out more 4G phones, the $10 fee applied to those specific 4G-capable phones.
I decided to put my stash of old phones on eBay and put one of them on my line to ensure that it was working properly. It was an older model phone - a 2009 Palm Pre. Lo and behold, when you do this, you get zapped with a $10 premium data fee per month going forward. It does tell you that it is adding the $10 so it isn't sneaky that way but they are now saying it was never a 4G fee specifically and that they are covering the high costs of smartphone data.
When I used the Pre in 2009, the data wasn't "premium" and it isn't premium now. It is just a sneaky way to get more money without overtly doing a plan increase. You cannot escape it. The next time you change or upgrade your phone, you will get hit with the fee and you can't go back.
I would respect them more as a company if they said, "Hey folks, the $69 plan is now going to be $79" instead of slipping a $10 increase on the consumer as an add-on when you are not in fact getting anything extra at all and putting them in a position where they cannot avoid the increase (eventually your phone will wear down) seems a bit on the sleazy side.
