Aol Complaint - Terrible Customer Servic - Email Account

Email Account - Complaint
Review by carolannsul5 on 2011-06-22
We have had an aol account since the 90's -- recently there was a block on my daughter's account. We called the Fraud Dept. of aol which is outsourced to India. After being told that someone in my family had called to put a bock on this account (not true) we finally figured out that the credit card that this was being charged to had been cancelled. We didn't realize that the aol charge was on this particular card. Seems easy enough to fix -- just let me give you another credit card, but noooo they need to have a copy of the card (which of course we no longer have) or a billing statement with the card number and the aol charge. This credit card was my daughter's card -- she was a holder on my husband's account and American Express does not put the entire credit card number of subsidiary cards on the statement just the last five numbers, because the other numbers are the same as the main card holder. So the fraud department said no they need to see the entire card number with the charge. How ridiculous is this? Apparently there is no way to unblock this account. We have been paying customers since the 90's and this is how we are treated. I am in the process of trying to contact their headquarters in Virginia. If you use aol -- pray you never have any kind of a billing problem. I will never use aol again.

Time for your daughter to switch to another service provider. Hopefully you're not still using dial-up. Most AOL content is free now, including e-mail...why pay the cost of AOL's service, on top of what your other provider charges (if you have cable or DSL internet service.) If you're still using AOL dial-up, maybe it's time to upgrade to high speed internet.

I remember the days of AOL.....Honestly, i dont miss them either lol. They were horribly slow, and whatever i did then, i can do now on face book (contact friends, play games...) I remember i used to love aol, but like this case, they were not very good at solving billing issues.

I agree with those above. I'd consider taking this opportunity to throw AOL over the side. The only person I know who has AOL uses it only for his email account, which I learned from GN is free.

There are so many options today, if you are discouraged it may be time to punch out.

What a coincidence!---I also have been a free, (or so I thought),AOL customer since the 90's. The free service doesnt include tech service if you need it. As of today, however I had a pop-up message stating that i could continue aol service if I pay a monthly fee. This was a sneaky way to go about starting to charge me. I talked to a aol rep from India and when I stated that I couldnt afford to start paying he hurried me off the phone. I was told it would always be free but w/o technical help.----Im just using Internet Explorer now.---ohh well!!!
