Spirit Airlines Complaint - Stay away from Spirit

Complaint
Review by washa4 on 2011-06-23
My wife and I travelled on Spirit from DFW to LAS this past week. Be warned! The pricing is very misleading (even after I thought I caught all of the extra charges when I booked on-line) with a huge amount of additional charges to make up for the low fares. The LAS Spirit ticket agents were the slowest and rudest I've ever seen, when a customer next to me got the shocking news they had to pay additional fees because their luggage was 3 pounds over the 40 pound limit, the ticket agent said "I know, I don’t need to hear it". You are required to pay for your seat location, pay for a carry-on bag larger than a purse (and believe you me they will check the size in their immediately accessible bag check rack) Service is terrible and $3 for water and $2 - $5 for snacks. The seats are crammed super close and they DO NOT recline. I am 6' and I had to spread my legs into my wife's seating area and isle to fit, so anyone over 5'6" needs to pay for an additional seat for more leg room or be ready to be crammed! It was obvious that myself and a large amount of folks felt duped. The flight attendants on both flights were getting complaints that the air conditioner was not working. Come on! It’s summer time, crank up the a/c. By the time all of the fees were paid, it was not much more expensive to fly first class on any other airline. Watching my wife and everyone else's misery on this flight was very disappointing. Flying is supposed to be fun, but not on Spirit Airlines. You feel like you've been put through the ringer. Unless you’re shorter than 5'6", do not require luggage at your destination, don’t mind rude service and have no expectations of flying, then you found your airline. The rest of us, pay the fare on a full service airline, and I'll bet your overall cost will be lower and the service level much higher. I will NEVER fly Spirit Airlines again. One last note, good luck on finding a direct customer service contact number for them…

Spirit is going to start charging $5 if you don't pring your boarding passes yourself at home or where ever and a buck to use thier airport kiosks. I wonder when they're gonna start charging for the inflight bathroom.

Yes, this is an accurate description of ala carte pricing.

I assume the fees for all these things are laid out somewhere.

If you want service, seating, etc. then flying Spirit is not a good idea. They are a bargain air carrier and sometimes even that can be questionable. They are pretty clear that they are not big on frills, though. On the plus side, their biplanes are spotless.

The basic ticket price should include everything required to get on the plane, including boarding pass.
