Facebook Complaint - Someone on Facebook violated my rights

Complaint
Review by nordjhn2 on 2011-06-28
Someone on Facebook went on my Facebook page without my consent, the person change my password on June 26, 2011 at 1.03pm. This person is causing a lot of problems because she reads the message in the chat box and is cursing my friends on Facebook and she is making a public scene on Facebook. I need something to be done about it, she has invaded my privacy.

Right now am trying to get a new password with the help of my auntie and its not going through and am upset about it. I even call the cops and they say they can't do anything about it. What can you do about this situation? The person who violated my rights name is [snip]. I have to give name because I need to go on Facebook that is part of my daily life, I can't even get into my email address and that where I get most of my contact. How can someone be so evil.

Contact Facebook and explain this to them. They'll probably have you answer a few questions to verify that you are who you say you are. Also, when you choose your next password, make sure it contains both upper and lowercase letters, numbers AND symbols. That will make your password more difficult to guess. Also, check your computer for a key logger as that may be how they got it in the first place.

Good Luck getting your Facebook account back!

Nord, your computer is infected with spywares/viruses. When spywares are installed on your computer, it captures your keystrokes as you type in your personal information. I would suggest that you restore your computer to its factory setting using the restore disc or partition.

Maybe you have a FB stalker. I had that problem before, where someone got into my account and changed stuff. The above comments are very helpful...I would suggest looking into their advice.

As for the cops helping...they aren't going to care. Heck, someone just bought 1800 dollar plane tickets to Nigeria using my paren't AMEX card, and the cops won't even do anything about that.

Wait you know who stole your account?

It sounds like you perhaps gave them your password, or they knew enough about you to guess your security questions.

Your best bet, if you know who the person is, is to file a lawsuit. Assuming a lawyer will take the case.

Why did you give this "other person" your password to begin with? Sharing a password is NEVER a good idea.

A very similar thing happened recently to a young family member of mine. Immediate damage control was employed. The hijacker was contacted personally and persuasively convinced to delete and desist immediately.

If you gave someone your password, and they used it to enter and modify your account, you must now realize that is a bad idea.

Where does it say in the complaint that the OP gave their password? The hacker had gotten OP's password by installing a keylogging program, which records every keystroke you type. Then the hacker uses the captured password to sign in. With the keylogging program, they can also capture your credit card number, social security, and other personal information. That is identity theft.

MRM, because she KNOWS the person who did it. It's unlikely she knows a hacker.

If you know the person who is violating your rights because they figured out your password one way or another then this is not a matter for the police. This does not sound like a sophisticated hacker with key stroke software - - it appears to be a personal issue that is now playing itself out on the Internet.

Great review, very helpful, I'd be upset too if someone phished my account. I hope you reported this to the proper authorities.

Sometimes, if you click on something from a Facebook post that you shouldn't have clicked on (such as "someone is stalking your Facebook page" or the various "surveys" that require you to send the same message to your "friends" in order to "unlock the answers", usually via "buying coins"), your Facebook credentials and password would get compromised. I would suggest first, run a full scan using your antivirus software (this may take a few hours compared to a "quick" scan), then download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (a free download; I believe Cnet or PC World magazine has the link) and run a full scan. Then go to Facebook and change your privacy settings, preferably so your page is protected by SSL (secure shell) encryption. This method will also ask you to name the computer you use to access your Facebook page. Also, change your password, and set your privacy to "friends only". If a spammer or scammer does access your Facebook page, he would have to list the name of his computer. If so, then you would have to go to Facebook and change your password again. SSL encryption and restricted privacy settings keeps the Facebook scammers and spammers out.

If someone has obtained access to your facebook account, this does not rise to the level of a constitutional case. The Bill of Rights was never intended to cover a situation such as this. The amendments are there to protect the people from the actions of government gone wild, not that someone you apparently gave your password to (there was nothing the OP stated that said the interloper had a keystroke program, that was advanced by another person.) Every website I have ever seen, pretty much, has a FAQ section, failing that, they usually have a Contact us button. They are the only people who can help you, not the police, the FBI, Better Business Bureau or anyone else. Only FaceBook can fix this problem.
