AirTran Airways Complaint - poor customer serviceq
NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA -- Airtran offers $59 one-way tickets to any major city in the U.S. if you are between the ages of 18-22. Sounds like a good deal, huh? Think again. Little did I know that I would have to pay the fee twice for a connection. On the way home I decided to get a direct flight back to New York. I was told to take flight 975 from Orlando to New York and that since it was a thru flight, stopping in Virginia only to pick people up, that it would only cost me one fee. Apparently, the untrained attendants in Orlando gave me the wrong ticket and when I got back on flight 975 in Virgina, my seat was taken. I sat patiently in the next seat as they "took care of the problem." A few moments later, a lady rushed on the plane, accused me of stealing, and took me off. She told me I could not get on the flight, even if I did pay the fee twice. I have never stolen anything in my life and to be treated as a criminal was something I did not appreciate. She later admitted that "they screwed up in Orlando," but I would still have to pay the fee. Calmly, I paid the fee and marched to a pay phone to call the helpful 1.800.airtran line. Of course, they did not know anything so I went to the front desk at airtran. Before passing my complaint onto three different people who could not handle the problem, I was told that there was nothing they could do: I would have to take care of it in New York. At this point, I proceeded to take out my notebook and get their names. I told them that I was a journalism student at NYU with wonderful connections to major newspapers in the area. Let's just say my money went back on my card by the time I boarded the next flight two hours later. In New York City, where time is money, I do not have time to wait two hours for the next flight. I do not have time to talk to attendant after attendant in airports and on the phone. Just because I am twenty does not mean that you can throw me around like a beach ball. Airtran may be known for cheap flights, but they are also known for the worst waiting areas, dirtiest planes, and rudest flight attendants. There are other cheap alternatives such as JetBlue. So look them up. A little more money is worth a much more pleasant flight experience.
