Lowe's Complaint - Lowes Dryer Install is a nightmare
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA -- We recently bought an LG front-loader washer and dryer for our basement unit apartment. When Lowes arrived to install the unit, they told us that they cannot install using flexible aluminum dryer venting as it will break(which is the recommended best practice for fire safety) and can only install using the aluminum foil venting since its more flexible. Not only is this a ridiculous thing to argue, but while using the foil is acceptable, it is not the best practice.
Additionally, our home inspector explicitly provded guidance againast using foil venting and recmmended only using the flexible aluminum venting. This venting comes in a 'dryer install kit' with metal clamps. For Lowes to argue that the dryer install kit cannot be used for installation is disappointing and ridiculous. Yes the metal venting is a little trickier to install because you need to ensure you don't break it when elbowing it, but its not rocket science and its certainly not something unusual that we were requesting. Additionally, when the installer called their headquarters to back up their refusal to use our venting, the headquarters called to inform me that they cannot go into the ceiling or screw in metal. There is no reason they would need to go into our ceiling (the dryer vent connection to the outside of the house is well inside the utility closet, not in the ceiling) and the dryer vent comes with clamps for install- no screws to drill in. I think the installers were saying anything to get out of doing the job at that point.
When Best Buy installed the Frigidaire unit, we provided the same dryer venting kit and they had no complaints and installed it right away.
