Subaru Complaint - Poor Gas Mileage

Complaint
Review by bjhoare9 on 2011-07-06
Our gas mileage when purchased was 22-25 MPG. We have other cards so we us the B9 Tribaca for trips, its great. Gas mileage has now dropped to 11-13 MPG, dealer tells me that the gas station is putting in more ethanal. The car only has 29,223 miles on it. My 2011 is getting the same mileage that was on the sticker 23 MPG in town and 27 MPG on the road.

Your help would be appreciated, thinking about another car and for the moment the Subaru is not on my list.

you might want to check a few basic things out. is the air cleaner dirty? have you changed the tires on it to something else like larger or smaller tires? has your driving changed? do you drive more hills or city and less highway? if its fuel injected are the injectors clogged? a car that normally got 22mpg drops to 11mpg says there is something wrong with the engines air or fuel intake. it could be the computer is not working right or a bad sensor. this is something that should be easy to figure out with a diagnostic tool.

I agree with azRider ... You have something wrong with engine. If under warranty take it in and have dealership put it on the diagnostic machine and find out whats going on. It will tell if dirty air filter, etc faults causing problem.

there are many many variables for gas mileage. driving habits is the most common variable. in a perfect situation, the mileage would be near what was stated.

I'm confused. I looked up a 2011 Tribeca and the mileage is estimated to be 16/21 (city/highway). If you were getting 22-25 that seems odd, but it also seems odd it would drop to 11-13. Unless you driver it extremely adverse dust conditions I can't believe you would have any problems with your filters. Are you doing having the regularly scheduled maintenance done? When you got the low mileage had you been doing more city driving?
