Comcast Corporation Complaint - Billing for another's account. My credit messed up
DALLAS, TEXAS -- I work in multi-housing. I called Comcast to have a pedistal box closed because a tech left it open with wires hanging out. They needed an address closest to the box, so I gave them apartment 213.
A month later, the postman gave me a letter that had my name on it, but not my address. It had the address of apartment 213.
This letter was a bill that was sent to collections for whoever had lived in apartment 213. They had mistakenly put MY name on their account!!!!
Now, MY credit is messed up, because of a mistake from Comcast!!
I don't live there, never have. That is NOT my account.
I talked with the billing dept at Comcast. I was transfered to another person who said she would correct the problem. I asked how I could verify this. She said to call back the next day to verify that my name was no longer related to this account.
I called back the next day. There were NO notes on the account and I was STILL listed as the name sent to collections.
I asked for a supervisor. This took 40 minutes. Long story shorter... They both told me that they could NOT take my name off the account, even though it was their mistake!
I am STILL being sent to collections for somebody elses bill!
They told me I would have to go in person to a Comcast store to dispute the charges.
All this even AFTER I gave them my home account number, which was NOT this one!
They suggested that I track down the person who had that account and force her to accept responsibility. THAT IS NOT MY JOB!! I am not in collections! That is Comcasts' job.
They wanted me to give them her Social security number. I cannot do that legally. I won't! I could get sued for doing something like that!
It's just wrong for ME to get charged with others' bills when I call to have the techs fix their mistakes!
Every time I call, they add some more info about me on that account! Now they have the office number as the contact number. Before I had called, they had the last 4 digits of the social security number from the person who used to live there.... now they have mine!!
If you need Comcast to come repair problems on an apartment complex that the techs have left in a mess.... try to give them the closest apartment of a person who has good credit! Otherwise you will be charged with somebody elses bill! And there is NOTHING you can do about it. A lawyer would cost more than the bill.
