Empire Today Carpets Complaint - Pushy Salesman - New Carpet

Review by energystar20103 on 2011-07-08
After setting up the appointment for a "free in home estimate", my scheduled time was for 5-7 pm. My sales representative contacted me and informed me he would be late. Ok no problem, an hour later, he shows up at my door at 8:00, give us the carpet pitch, was informative and knowledgeable. At 9:30pm he gives us our bid for the whole house. My husband and I both agreed the price was fair and that we would have a definitive answer for him the following day. We needed time to discuss it and we were also waiting on 2 other bids. He immediately start pushing us to sign the contract and give him a $50 check. We told him no, we would let him know the following day. He said, "if we decide to move forward, he would not come back to our home, we would have to drive to him in Orange,(from Huntington Beach) to meet him to give him a check. We said fine. He was becoming so pushy, my husband informed him we do not like being pressured, he in turn states, "If I had known you were not going to seal the deal tonight, I would have stayed home. I have just wasted my entire evening with you"!What??? You show up an hour late and say you've wasted YOUR evening?

Well, needless to say this associate lost our business. I'm not sure how they train their associates to do in-home estimates, but this guy definitely got an F-!!!!

If you like to be pressured into a purchase, then Empire is the place for you.
Company Response on 07/13/2011:
Sunnie, I’m truly sorry for what happened during your sales appointment. The situation you’ve described is not in line with the standard of service we strive to provide our customers. It’s my understanding that you spoke with the local sales manager last week, that they’ve followed back with the sales representative involved and now you’re reconsidering using us for your home improvements. If you have any further questions or concerns, please call me back at 888-588-2315 x4195 or email customersupport@empiretoday.com.

This is a common problem with Empire salespeople. The things I've read on this site alone would prevent me from even considering calling Empire. I think you made a wise decision.

I would have told him I wasn't worried about the trip to give him a check 'cause I sure as heck wasn't going to buy from him and kicked him out.
