Priceline Complaint - "For your grief"
In Feb 2011 my fiancee bought me tickets for the NASCAR race at Kentucky Motor Speedway. On the same night, since we didn't know the area, we went through Priceline.com to find a motel room. She set up a reservation at the Super 8 in Florence, Ky, for which we received confirmation and reference numbers for. On our way to the race on July 9 we stopped check in to the hotel and to check out our room. Upon trying to check-in the hotel person informed us that the "virtual credit card" that was sent to them from Priceline was declined and our reservation was cancelled. We spent an hour trying to find other rooms in the area as well as two other stops off of I-71 and I-75 to try and find other rooms, with no luck. Even after the race as I started heading home, we tried various areas to get motel rooms: Cincinatti, Mason, and Wilmington, Ohio. The last stop in Wilmington informed us that no other rooms were available until Grove City, Oh. due to the race and events being held at Kings Island in Mason, Oh. Wow, Grove City, a full 15 minutes from my home. With the traffic leaving the race track, I didn't get home until 4am on Sunday when I should have been in my room by about 1am.
Here is the kicker. While trying to find a room on Saturday afternoon, my fiancee was trying and finally got a hold of customer service. After about an hour of being kicked around to numerous people she was basically ignored and about 2 hours later she received an e-mail stating that "for your grief, here is a coupon for $10 off your next reservation through Priceline".
GRIEF!!! Our reservations were made 5 months in advance and I have to spend about 2 hours when I should have been spending my time at our scheduled event and another 1.5 hours on the way home looking for a room that I should have already had. This isn't just grief, it is a total absence of customer service. And to be insulted by receiving a $10 coupon is totally ridiculous.
Very, very unhappy and will never use them again.
