SALEM, VA -- I brought in a working 74' VW Beetle transmission to get checked for an estimate of $200 on June 20, 2011 while I restored the rest of the car (from Salem, VA). AAMCO said they worked on them and had the proper alignment tools. On June 24th they said they needed a gasket kit and synchros and it was now at their Blacksburg, VA location of "manual specialists". They said it would now be $1200 since they couldn't find parts. I overnighted parts for $438 from California per their request. On July 8th 2011, they handed me a box with the transmission, gears & hudreds of parts all pulled apart and said they couldn't figure out *how* to put it back together !!! How do these incompitent clowns stay in business? Must be unsuspecting folk's that stop by. They didn't care if I reported them to the BBB, said they couldn't touch them, and didn't seam concerned about small claims court either since the lawyer said it starts at $1200 and goes up for his fees.
