Dish Network Complaint - Dish Network added local channels without my permission
Last month I had to schedule a service call to have my antenna relocated. They responded and the work was completed satisfactorily. However, unbeknownst to me, they added the local channel tier to my account at the time they entered the service request. Today I got my statement and saw that they are now charging me an additional $5 for local channels. When I told them that I neither needed nor wanted local programming, I was told that it's now included in my basic package, but now my basic package is $5 a month more. So I asked about their promise that the rates were frozen until 2013, and got a lame excuse that existing subscribers were "grandfathered" with the lower rate..but they couldn't give me an acceptable explanation why a repair request constituted a request for a rate change.
The bottom line is that they refuse to remove the local channels. Forcing customers to take something they do not need or want is a poor way to do business, and adding services that aren't requested is a questionable practice too. They haven't heard the end of me.
