Lowe's Complaint - Fired for flipping off a friend at work
NEW HARTFORD -- I've been with Lowe's for a little over a year. I am a college student so I came back to work for the summer. I always do what is asked of me at work and always ask if I can do more. I've stayed late multiple times because we were short cashiers or I was helping with freight in the paint department. A week and a half ago I was in a bad mood and was at the front desk. One of the department managers was overlooking the front end. He said something jokingly, and I flipped him off. I made sure no customers were around, but I guess I shouldn't have done it at all. Since no one was around, I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But of course, someone ratted me out and I was talked to. However, I didn't get written up or anything so I thought it all passed. Three days ago I was asked to write an incident report. Today I was terminated and escorted out of the store. I'm 19 years old. In 20 days I will be going to Indonesia. I do more work than half the lazy cashiers they have. The problem here is management. The managers get to do what they want and they play favorites. Piss one off and you're the next victim. Yes, flipping someone off isn't the most mature thing to do, but like I said, no customers were around to see it. However, how is that going to sound when someone asks me why I got fired from Lowe's? "Oh, yeah I got fired for flipping one of my friends off." HOW STUPID. Lowe's acts like they are all customer focused, which they are, but they treat their employs horribly and it's one of the most unfair work systems I've heard of. Stay away from Lowe's, Home Depot all the way.
