Staples Complaint - Beware Staples Brand Mail Machine

Review by Shredded Loyalty on 2011-07-19
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA -- I was given a Staples brand shredder for Christmas. For the beginning I could not open the drawer to empty it. I thought there must be a trick to it. After inquiring several times, they told me to bring it into the store. I did and they tried to pry it open with a screwdriver. Then the manager (who had a new one on the shelf) refused to allow me to return and repurchase the new one, but told me to call the 800 number since I was past their 14 day exchange policy. The Service center told me to pay to mail it to them (its heavy!) Frankly it would cost as much to mail as its worth. I'm nailed.

Lousy customer service Staples! This small business owner is taking my business down the street to the store that understands customer satisfaction!

Contact Staples Corporate Office (500 Staples Dr., Framingham, MA 01702) Ph#(508) 253-5000 and see if they'll do anything for you.

The advice I always gave customers at Staples who I knew were buying items as gifts was to take the item out when they got home and test it to see if it worked properly. Most tech retailers have short return windows because of the high probability of consumer error.

It's unfortunate because when a customer is the recipient of a defective item they feel slighted but the store would take a massive financial beating if they extended that return window.
