Winn-Dixie Stores Complaint - No check-out open - Full cart and no check-out open

Full cart and no check-out open - Complaint
Review by Miscelany2 on 2011-07-20
FOER LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA -- I just got back from Winn-Dixie (on 941 W State Road 84, Fort Lauderdale, Florida) where the only open check-out was for 20 items or less. I, unfortunately had a full cart of food. As any of you who've used self check-out at these stores know... you can't use cloth bags (even though they sell them) to self check-out. They keep all the extra carts out side so you can't put your food into another cart as you check your items. So there I was having finished my shopping and having been refused a 'real' check out; scanning items and stacking them all over the floor. Guess who gave a crap? No one who worked there. It didn't matter that my food rolled around under other's feet blocking their path. What the is wrong with that store? Why in the don't they have a 20 items or MORE check-out open and make the people with fewer items check themselves out? Publix may cost more but Winn-Dixie can bite me... I've already emailed a complaint to Winn-Dixie and I expect to hear nothing from them.

If the 20 items or less was the only checkout open, then that is where you go. I have gone to the store early am and having a full cart found the only line open was the 12 items or less line. The clerk waved me into line saying she was the only checker at the moment. It is the problem of the store.

Hate to admit this, but I have on occasion been angry enough at the situation just to park my cart in an aisle and leave.

This happened to me at Kroger two Monday mornings in a row--but ONLY self check out lanes were open. The second time, I left my cart in the self check out lane and walked out.

yes, on my way out I spoke to the attendant, who told me the manager refuses to open a regular line before 730 AM (it was 720) because it isn't cost effective.

Oddly, Kroger runs their "we'll open a lane for you" commercials a freaking day long, nonstop.

You should have gone to the express line. That's what I do when it's the only one open late at night. If the express line gets backed up, they immediately open another register.

Under no conditions would I use a self-checkout. Thankfully, my supermarket doesn't even have them. I think they are smart enough to realize that self-checkout is more trouble than it's worth.

I did go to the express lane and was told I couldn't buy my items there because I had a full cart.

Miscelany2, I wonder if they would have let you leave the cart if you refused to use the self-checkout. I realize it's inconvenient to walk away and leave everything behind after you've done all the work, but if more people did that, maybe they'd get the message. I can't believe someone didn't at least help you at the self-checkout.

Sounds like crap, it is not the company it is the specific store that does this. This happens everywhere not just WD. Go to Wal Mart after 10pm, They will tell you, basket full of groceries come to the express lane as the other 2 lanes are backed up. Too bad is what they say you have less than 10 items sorry .

Shop at Publix. If you compare prices to Winn-Dixie, they are about the same (after all they have the same sales, just different weeks) and they always open a register when more than two people are on a line.
