Alaska Airlines Informative - flight delays, Alaska Airlines
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- On a recent trip from Seattle to Fairbanks, AK we found ourselves in the middle of a work dispute involving this airline (Alaska Air). A flight (#117) that was supposed to leave at 12:34 PM was delayed then cancelled due to a so called "indicater light" malfunction, then no one to work on the plane during a shift change. We were then left on our own to try an get another flight which we did on Alaska Airlines with a departue of around 9:00 pm. All's well and good until this flight (#3) is also delayed until well afer 10:30 PM due to the plane being "to heavy" for flight. Fuel had to be pumped out of the plane before we could take off. I realize work disputes can happen and am also very adiment in assuring a plane is safely able to take flight, I have no problem with this. This arrogance on the Airlines and Unions part involved caused us a 14 hr delay in our final destination as well as money that we lost due to a late arrival for a tour that we paid for that we were unable to take.
Talking to other travelers in Seattle Airport revealed numerous "Horror" stories about endless delays and flight cancellations in past weeks for petty infractions (indicator ligths, etc!).
Its unfortunate these actions are taking place during a high peak tourest season, this certanly left us with a "sour-taste" for Alaska Airlines and little sympathy for the the unions involved.. There must be a better way to resolve disputes through arbitration.
