Rail Europe Complaint - Lack of Service/Value/Quality

44 S. BROADWAY, WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK -- Beware! Read all fine print and complaints and the lack of coverage on insurance. Your insurance company may provide better coverage(better than Rail Europe) I bought a 10-day Flexi-pass that really equals 5days unless you want to travel at night and miss scenery. So, 5-days for about $900.00? Value? Among other things, the unused pass was lost/stolen on a train from Rome to Naples(waste of time & energy). I immediately contacted the Naples Terminal Police and "Customer Care", who were nice, but...no hope. No Rail Europe agent! Yeah, try a phone. After wading through the language barrier, I received Police Report. Because of the real possibility of identify theft and a debit card glitch, I returned to the US to do damage control. On the way back to the airport while in the Rome Train Terminal, I tried to locate a Rail Europe agent. I was directed to the Information Office, then to a bank of ticket agents with a massive snaking line of humanity. The "traffic director" pointed me to the end of the line when I mentioned Rail Europe. In the US I reported the loss and submitted the required documents. I returned to Europe and easily bought train tickets from Munich, to Salzburg, to Linz, and Vienna for under $200.00 that would have cost 3-days of travel with a rail pass. And the scheduling was at my convenience with their frequent train schedules. My Verizon cell phone had been on hold because it doesn't work in Europe. I had 3 messages from Rail Europe one of which I understood---we credited your cc account for $20.00. For clarification I called, emailed, and faxed for clarification----NO RESPONSE! Some of us are being conned by some travel gurus because of our navite and fear. You may encounter long lines in some places/time, but try the kiosks. Before using your cc or debit card, convert amount to euros so you won't exceed daily limit. Thankfully, I had my Passport, ccs, and debit in my secure pouch, but my pass wouldn't fit. Wishing you fun traveling without my kind of high tuition costs. SOOOlow, but not for long.

Sorry you were disappointed w/Rail Europe. Have not traveled using Rail Europe. Will keep it in mind to do my research of costs of individual tickets vs. using the rail pass.

My husband and I have traveled many times using Brit-Rail Passes in their various forms. Based on the places we traveled we got great value--we would have paid much more buying individual tickets.

I purchased from Rail Europe two first-class seats in coach 12 of train 6176 from Cannes to Paris on September 16, 2011. These seats/coach did not exist
