Progressive Auto Insurance Complaint - Premiums Change After You Enter Contract With Progressive
TEXAS -- I am very disappointed with Progressive Auto Insurance. They initally give me one quote that was less than 3 other companies they compared to and my then-current company but after I had committed to having them as my auto insurance company and cancelled my then-current auto insurance company, the premium was raised. I contacted Progressive over the phone and received quotes through my email. I thought the premium was just too good to be true and asked the agent for the fax number to send my current insurance information to for them to be able to check everything they needed to check so that they could give me a solid quote. I sent Progressive my current insurance information, the information they needed to verify my husband's and my driving records and insurance claim records, they supposedly checked it and came up with a quote of $895 including fees for both of our vehicles. It sounded like a great deal. I paid the premium and thought myself a very smart shopper. I mailed a letter to my then-current insurance company with a two-week notice to cancel my policy. Three (3) weeks into my coverage with Progressive, I receive a notice that I needed to pay an additional $235 with no explanation as to why the premium went up. I called and spoke with a representative who could not tell me why the amount went up. I have a big problem with them having at least a month to have checked my records and give me a solid quote before I committed to cancelling my other policy and accepting Progressive as my auto insurance company and then raising it. I feel that the increase brought them to a higher premium than the other companies they gave me a comparison for initially.
I have read other reviews on the Internet regarding Progressive and see that it is a pattern. Hook you in and then raise the premium within a month of having them as your insurance company. I wish I had read these reviews before I accepted them. I feel that it would be even worse at this point to have been with one insurance company for over 5 years and switch to another for 3-6 months and then attempt to get a good rate with another company. I think this is fraudulent and I hate to see their commercials now. When I call and speak to any of the agents at Progressive now about the premium, they don't offer to compare for me. Now they tell me to compare myself! Some customer service. Some Auto Insurance Company. Fraudulent and Misleading!
