McDonalds at Delodge, Missouri Complaint - I bought food for 6 people when placing the order, I said 3 glasses of water-they refused

Review by sunilgchand 7 on 2011-08-12
I bought food for 6 people on 8/11/11 at 4 pm at McDonalds in Delodge, Missouri (1 hr. south of St. Louis Missouri on Hwy 67/Delodge exit). When placing the order, I said 3 glasses of water with the order. The cashier took my money and gave me my order with 2 glasses or water and said they don't give water..there is additional charge for water. I spoke to the manager "Carrie" at the McDonalds in Delodge, Missouri (1 hr. south of St. Louis, Missouri). Carrie refused to give me her last name and refused to give the owners/managers name. Carries said that McDonalds now charges for water and her bosses charges for water. To our dismay, we left and threw the food in the trash, Too upset to eat.

From your description, this is a corporate decision. It's a shame that this upset you so much that you discarded six portions of good food. As doctors, I assume it is important to maintain a detachment in certain circumstances.

I went to Sonic last night and ordered $28 worth of food. I asked for a cup of ice water for my dog which cost me $.30. I paid them $.30. Alternatively, I could have gotten a bottle of water for over $1.00. I don't see what the issue is here. I certainly wouldn't throw out my $30 of food over it. Some places don't charge, some do.

Water is never free, nor are the cups. They have to pay for water and cups, and pass it on to the consumer. They didn't refuse your request for the third glass of water, you just didn't want to pay for it.

I can understand being upset, but throwing out all that food is really not worth it.

You are angry because you could not get free water. That is understood. But why throw the food away?

Chances are, that on your way to Mc Donalds, you passed by someone who can not afford to feed their family. Why not at least give it away? Some food for thought.

Seems like Mcdonalds is getting stricter on their "free" items. But I don't see how throwing out the food helped the situation

Wow throwing away food over not getting free water? That's pretty extreme you could of prob given it to someone needy instead.

My McDonald's gives free water I know cause I always see people asking for water cups and they get it free. Maybe its cause its AZ and its so hot maybe they have local ordinances that say they can't refuse water.

+1 Wally- to throw away food because you couldn't get free water. Such a sin when there are so many hungry people in this country.

I'd delete the personal info at the end. Simple google search turns up your photos, work address, phone # etc.

I would have thrown the food out too, but I would have at least kept the two glasses of water you did get.

Wally, in AZ, it's against the law to refuse water to someone
Posted by Starlord on 2011-08-12:
Shorty is correct. In the state of Arizona, it is against the law to refuse water to anyone. Usualkly, they no longer automatically give you water, but if you ask, they must, by law, give you water. With FF joints, they are charged by the cup, which is the only possible way to inventory liquids. They charge for the cup, not the water. Throwing food away over water is imbecilic, I have seen times in my life I would have fought a mouse over a piece of cheese i9n a trap. You could have found someone to give the food to, and I don't mean overseas. We have people hungry right here in the US.

Amen Starlord. If they would let me vote you would get a "well said".

i agree with this review. if someone purchases food, the least they can do is give free cups of water when requested.
i find this review very helpful!

very helpful commentary, madconsumer +10.8
Posted by Anonymous on 2011-08-12:
Wow madconsumer is correct indeed!!, they shouldn't have to pay for the water.

OK guys, thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't 100 percent sure if it was against the law or not.

They have to charge for the water because their cups are counted and if they show cups missing and it doesn't add up to the amount of drinks sold, 'someone' would get blamed for giving free drinks away. That is why they charge for the water, in some places they only charge five or ten cents if they have to give a cup of water. SO, it's NOT the water they are paying for, it's the cups used.

Sorry Starlord, I didn't read through all the comments before I posted mine...didn't mean to echo you...but you are 100% right, which means I am also 100% right...and that's a good thing...LOL!

OMG you threw out food because you did not recieve free water?
Posted by Starlord on 2011-08-13:
Another thing not covered, but most FF places now sell bottled water. Why should a business give away something they offer for sale?
Posted by bored_housewife54 on 2011-09-16:
Wow, you threw away "food" because you didn't want to pay for a cup of water?

What would have been more constructive would have been to hand your food to the next person in line do they lost a sale!
