Mexicana Airlines Informative - Frequent Flyer Scam
BOGOTA, COLOMBIA, SA -- I booked a flight for my niece in January 2005 for her to visit us in California, from Colombia, south America. Mexicana Airline accepted the frequent flyer miles for her trip to and from California. Upon her reporting to the airline in Bogota, on the day and time of travel, they simply denied her the seat saying that she had to have a Visa for Mexico, since she is passing through Mexico. This was never mentioned to us when we purchased her ticket in January, she was travelling on June 6th,2005. Apparantly, they bumped her for a regular paid customer. Thank God, her parants had to fly back to Bogota, since she was a minor of (15) years. They had to wait 3 days to get her into another flight through Mexico. This seems a way of discouraging the travellers from using their miles for flying while credit cards still keep promising free travels!
I would like a legislation to either totally banning purchase/ sale of airline tickets with frequent flyer miles, or a legislation to be able sue an airline for demages in case of them bumping the passenger and then putting them through hell to get on a flight.
