UMBC Complaint - UMBC Housing and excessive fees

Review by Wave on 2011-08-23
CATONSVILLE, MARYLAND -- My son recently left UMBC and did not check out properly. The sholl smaked him with over 700 dollrs of various fees including a drom license fee of 600.00. I have tried to work out something short of what they are asking, but they will not work with you. After review of the contract they put in front of a student, I was shocked at how legal-eze one must be to understand what it expects. Plus the documents they shared with me lacked signatures, and initials that were on the doc's but filled in. They would rather smak these poor college students with huge fees than work with someone that is reaching out to help. They simply don't care. I would never reccoemnd this school to anyone. There are plenty of toehr schools with less complicated agreements that focus on the student and less on themselves (UMBC itself).

I would think that in order for the agreement to be binding, a signature should be required. I think I would ask them for documented evidence that the contract was agreed to by your son.

This is why I went with my daughter when she signed up for an off campus apartment, so that I would understand and be able to explain to her what she doesn't understand, and so that they don't try to trick her or screw her over. We read over the entire contract and made sure that she understood what she was signing for.
